EXAMINING THE SIDE EFFECTS OF CHEMOTHERAPY Dr. Irit Ben Aharon, a senior doctor at Rabin’s Oncology Division at the Davidoff Cancer Center, and Prof. Salomon Stemmer, Director of Research Department and Deputy Director of the Oncology Division at the Davidoff Center have led a study to gauge how chemotherapy can damage ovarian blood vessels in ovarian cancer patients and how that damage can affect a patient’s fertility. Using sophisticated imaging tests conducted by Prof. Israel Meizner, Director of Diagnostic and Invasive Ultrasound Unit at Rabin, the study confirmed damage to the ovarian blood vessels and a sharp decrease in blood flow to the ovary following chemo- therapy. The study also concluded younger women are more likely to recover from these damaging side effects of chemotherapy.
