Happy New Year from the Warner Textile Archive!

We hope all of our readers enjoyed a lovely festive season and we wish you all well for 2013. The next twelve months at the Archive are already filling up with a rich selection of textile related workshops and events, and we would like to take this opportunity to share these with you. Whether you visit us on one of our public open days, join us for a specially themed workshop, or attend our hotly anticipated Textile Festival, we look forward to welcoming many of you to the Archive throughout the year. Persian Poppies Workshop 5th February 2013 / 10am – 4pm A handful of places are still available on this fabulous knitting day, which will take place at the Warner Textile Archive under the guidance of Brandon Mably (Kaffe Fassett Design Studio). The workshop aims to encourage the adventurous use of colour in knitting, with a focus on the exuberant Persian Poppy pattern. Tickets: £50 including hot drinks, biscuits and cakes. Book by phone on 01376 557741 Easter Wreath Workshop 12 th March 2013 / 10am – 3pm Workshop Leader: Jill Beard Fabric leaves form a nest for this happy hen and her Easter eggs. This country Easter wreath will welcome Spring into your home. Tickets: £25 - all materials and refreshments provided.

Knitting for Beginners 19 th March 2013 / 10am – 2.30pm Workshop Leader: Eileen Wigley From to stocking stitch, this course will provide participants with a sound understanding of basic knitting. There is no required skill level as the workshop is intended for complete beginners. £25 or £15 for Indi Card holders - all materials and refreshments provided.

Cut Paper Birds 22 nd April 2013 / 10am—1pm Workshop Leader: Jill Beard This workshop is inspired by the German tradition of cut paper work. Create your own world of paper birds and fill your home with these charming and fun decorations Tickets: £20 – all materials and refreshments provided.

Events confirmed so far include:

Textile Fair 12 th May 2013 Following last year’s huge success, we have the pleasure of announcing that the Textile Fair will be returning in 2013, taking place at the Warner Textile Archive and Braintree Town Hall. This year we will have a greater variety of stalls and talks, and you will be pleased to know that we have expanded our vintage tearoom!

Well Heeled with Hetty Rose 18 th May 2013 / 10am – 5pm Workshop Leader: Hetty Rose This inspiring course - cited as one of the best workshops of 2013 by Homes & Antiques magazine - will see participants create their very own unique pair of shoes with designer and critically ac- claimed artisan Hetty Rose. The Warner Textile Archive will be reproducing the fabric design Yentai, first printed in 1966, as a limited-edition fabric espe- cially for the day. Well Heeled will be taking place at Hetty’s studios in South by the Thames. Tickets: £195 - all materials provided.

Queensway 21 st May 2013 / 10.30am – 12.30pm Course Leader: Charlotte Harding In celebration of our Queen’s Diamond Jubilee and her 1953 coronation, explore the Warner Textile Archive’s collection of Coronation fabrics and designs from Queen Victoria to the present day. Tickets: £12 – refreshments provided.

Frances Pickering’s ‘Undercover Workshop’ 8th and 9 th June 2013 / 10am – 4pm Workshop Leader: Frances Pickering This weekend workshop offers an opportunity to make a book completely from fabric. Participants will use small pieces of plain and printed fabric (new and/or vintage) to create a charming and original fabric book with an individual look and feel. Tickets: £80 – refreshments provided.

Needlebook Workshop 3rd August 2013 Workshop Leader: Libby Smith Using recycled sari silk and using stitch, create and decorate your own individual needlebook. Tickets: Price TBC

Painting on Velvet 26 th September 2013 / 10am – 3pm Workshop Leader – Jill Beard Inspired by the traditional 19 th century technique of theorem painting, this workshop will demonstrate the use of painting watercolour on velvet through a stencil. Tickets: £30 – all materials and refreshments provided

Spoolie Bird Workshop 12 th November 2013 / 10am – 1pm Workshop Leader: Jill Beard Create a hand-stitched textile bird, sweetly perched on top of a birch wood bobbin. Tickets: £25 - all materials and refreshments provided

Christmas Festival November and December 2013

Christmas Textile Gift Fair 23 rd – 24 th November 2013 / 10am—4pm Due to the success of 2012’s Christmas Textile Gift Fair, we will be extending the event over two days in 2013, featuring hand-made gifts and demonstrations.

This year’s workshops will feature a Folded Paperback Christmas Tree, a Christmas Fairy, and a Partridge in a Pear Tree.

Further details will be released later in the year.

Top Drawer Trade Show The Warner Textile Archive will have a stall at the Top Drawer spring fair at Earls Court between 13th and 15th January. As the UK’s leading design-led gift fair, this will be an excellent platform for the launch of our new greetings card range, which adds to the Warner Textile Archive’s existing products and heightens the commercial exposure of our collection.
