November 23, 2014 * Our Lord Jesus Christ, King of the Universe ST. MONICA ROMAN A Continuous Catholic Presence Since 1854

“NOTHING IS FAR FROM GOD!” ST. MONICA PRAYED AND WEPT WITH HOPE FOR THE CONVERSION OF HER HUSBAND AND SON FOR 30 YEARS!

St. Monica Parish was founded in 2013 by Zubik. The clergy and people of four parishes, represent- ing eight previous parishes, bravely accepted the call of the Bishop to cooperate as people of faith in the power of the Holy Spirit to Build a Church that is Alive! Christ has asked this parish to be born so that the Faith may continue to be proclaimed and lived in the upper Beaver Valley. The Holy Eucharist has been praised and adored in this area since 1854. St. Monica Parish with the assistance of our Patroness, and her son St. Augustine, will continue to spread the Catholic faith and to be the light of Christ to all that we meet.

Don't you desire to be part of something great, to be part of bringing souls to Jesus, standing proudly be- fore St. Peter and saying you gave it all you had? It is hard to walk the narrow way, it is a burden to carry the cross and to forgive past hurt. However, when done with Christ and the Church it makes us alive, free, people of joy and peace. In a world where we complain about the loss of faith and morality, don't you want to do something about it and be a part of the solution? The Miracle of Saint Monica is that solution and now is the time to show the Lord and the many souls of our region that our faith makes us capable of accepting our loses and sacrificing for the hope of faith. I am asking you in good faith to be a part of the solution, to be a founder in Building a Church that is Alive. I ask you to show that your greatest treasure is your faith and that you are grateful to God for all that He has given you in this life. "Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and decay destroy, and thieves break in and steal. But store up treasure in Heaven, where neither moth nor decay destroys, nor thieves break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there also will your heart be." (Matthew 6:19-21)

Saint Monica's campaign for Building a Church that is Alive is being run in a unique way, because this parish is a Miracle and because I trust your goodness. There are three unique elements to this campaign: 1. the parish families are not being wealth screened, this is a standard fundraising service that reveals the wealth poten- tial of each family 2. each parish family, regardless of means, is being asked in the same way for a sacrificial gift, there is no special treatment regarding ones ability or inability to give 3. I am not telling you how much to give, because I trust that you will do the very best that you can. I am happy to announce that we have already raised over $1.73 million, and have surpassed our Diocesan goal. All of this is from approximately 355 contributors out of nearly 900 regular donors. Our goal is $6 million to be raised over the next 5 years from the pledges that you make now. This is a stretch goal, and one that should be possible if each of us make a sacrifice to the Lord. Every donation made now goes directly to the Church and school building project and stays in the parish. We can not proceed with any plans until we have sufficient fund- ing, so if your waiting to give until ground breaks, you may be preventing that moment from ever happening. I thank all of the initial donors for responding to Jesus’ call and for acting in faith to His invitation to build Him a new home, so that all of his family can be together. I am moved by the generosity of the parish and encouraged by the stories of sacrifice surfacing as many make contributions to the future of the Catholic faith in the Upper Beaver County. I have been moved to up my own pledge from $6,000 to $9,000 over the next 60 months. As a person on a fixed income of $25,000 I know that God will bless my sacrifices, this donation is in addition to my monthly 10% tithe to the parish collection and parish share program.

This is the time and the moment to be a part of God’s Church and not just a bystander or taker, this is the time to respond to the crisis of faith in your own families, this is the moment to respond to Jesus in a uniquely ge- nerous way for all of His blessings to you, this is the reason why you are a living stone! I challenge the seniors to leave a legacy of faith for their children and grandchildren. I challenge the young to prove their devotion of faith and to be an active part of winning the region for Jesus and not just takers, living off of the legacy of your parents and grandparents. Saint Monica Building a Church Alive campaign is the opportunity for each of us to be part of Christ’s answer to the crisis of faith in our time.

"Wealth and wages can make life sweet, but better than either, is finding a treasure." (Sirach 40:17)
