BATTLE OF CULLODEN COMMEMORATION and CLAN LUNCH Saturday, 13th April, 2019

The Gaelic Society of will hold its Annual Service at the Memorial Cairn on Culloden Battlefield at 11 a.m. on Saturday, 13th April. Afterwards, the group will gather behind the banners and follow Piper Sandy MacDonell and Canon Mel Langille to lay wreaths at the Keppoch and Clan Donald Stones and - for Clanranald, Glengarry and Glencoe - at the low stone which has ‘Clan Donald’ inscribed on it.

Following the commemorations on Drumossie Moor, ‘The Clan Donald Culloden Lunch’ will again be held in the Culloden Suite at The Drumossie Hotel. As usual it will be followed by Sandy playing a pibroch and by speeches and toasts. I am absolutely delighted to announce that Dr Margaret Bennett, the renowned ethnologist and folklorist, has very kindly agreed to be our guest speaker. Many of you will remember when in 2014 she was the Chief of the Gaelic Society of Inverness and gave a brilliant speech at the Main Cairn, interspersed with marvellous and evocative singing: something never done before.

Although the cost of the meal has increased, both the Clan Donald Society of Edinburgh and the Clan Donald Society of the Highlands and Islands will be donating £100 next year towards the battlefield costs and other kind donations are usually forthcoming. So, this year, the cost will remain at £30 per person. If there is anyone, particularly a young person, who finds the cost too great, please would he/she contact me.

I much look forward to seeing as many of you as possible on 13th April.
