INTRODUCTION

Audiences of the World Puppetry Festival will include UNIMA members and their friends who are interested in the puppets arts.

The World Puppetry Festival should include puppet performances from all regions of the world.

As in the past, the country in which a UNIMA Congress and World Puppetry Festival is held has the opportunity to showcase the puppetry from its own country as well as from the wider geographical region. PROGRAM OF ACTIVITIES

BALI Foreign visitors (UNIMA members and their friends) as well as the local Balinese will be highly interested in seeing the local Balinese wayang. There is a rich variety of Balinese wayang, culturally rich and very entertaining.

The Festival’s Opening Ceremony will be centrally held at Astina Square. Hosted by I Made Sidia from Sanggar Paripurna of Giangyar Regency, the Opening Ceremony will showcase Balinese wayang, introducing a young Balinese dalang / puppeteer and concluding with master dalang, Cenk Blonk.

Besides Balinese wayang / puppet , the evening performance will showcase the following Balinese dances: Barong, Tambulilingan, Baris, Manuk Rawa, .

CENTRAL • Wayang Kulit shadow puppetry of Centra Java with excerpts from the plays Kresna Duta, Lahire Wisanggeni, and Sesaji Raja Suya will be performed by a young dalang.

WEST JAVA • Wayang Golek the renowned rod puppetry of with excerpts from The Abduction of Shinta and Dasamuka Gugurnya, will be performed by a young dalang. PROGRAM OF ACTIVITIES

SOUTH-EAST ASIAN REGION • In addition to the wayang tradition, the World Puppetry Festival will also highlight examples of traditional and modern puppetry from the South- East Asian Region including Malaysia, Thailand and the Philippines

ASIA-PACIFIC REGION • Puppet companies from China, Japan, India, Iran and South Korea will represent the broader Asia-Pacific Region PROGRAM OF ACTIVITIES

FESTIVAL VENUES • Performances will take place at Prime Plaza Hotel Sanur - Bali • Performances will also be held in Gianyar Regency venues recommended by the incumbent Regent of Gianyar

STREET PERFORMANCES • Performances will take place in the streets close to the Prime Plaza Hotel Sanur - Bali PROGRAM OF ACTIVITIES
