The historic event at Long Beach will be sanctioned by the His- toric Motor Sports Association (HMSA).

“This is going to be a sensational event with beautifully pre- pared cars from the 1980s and 90s,” said Cris Vandagriff, presi- dent of the HMSA. “It is exciting to showcase these cars at the Grand Prix of Long Beach, as many of them ran there in IMSA GTO and a few even in the Trans Am series.”

Featuring a wide variety of on- and off-track activities for the entire family, the Grand Prix will be headlined by the 2019 Indy- Car Series and IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship, along with the Historic IMSA GTO, Motegi Racing Super Drift Challenge on Friday and Saturday nights, SPEED Energy Sta- dium SUPER Trucks and the Pirelli GT4 America (formerly World Challenge).

Prices for the three-day event, which are unchanged from 2018, range from $33 for a Friday General Admission ticket to $147 for a three-day ticket that includes Saturday and Sunday reserved seating in grandstand upper levels. Pre-paid parking packages are also available, along with handicapped seating, IndyCar Series Paddock access passes, Super Photo tickets and an array of VIP Club packages.

Over the decades, California has produced more than its share of champions with stars such as Dan Gurney, Phil Hill, Rick Mears, Jeff Gordon, Kevin Harvick and many more too numerous to list. And now another Californian, Kody Swanson of Kingsburg, has emerged as both a re- cord-breaking winner and a multi-time champion.

Granted, Swanson is not a big-name when compared to those previously named but in USAC Silver Crown series circles, the 30-year old is known as a highly successful driver, one who knows how to win on both dirt and pave- ment.

Driving the DePalma Motorsports entry again in 2018, Swanson won five-straight races breaking Jack Hewitt's 32-year old record of four in a row and in winning on the lightning-fast Salem Speedway in August, the skilled driver picked up his 24th Silver Crown career victory, ele- vating him into first place on the all-time win list.
