Rund 30 hochkarätig besetzte GT3-Rennwagen garantieren schon im Vorfeld des Rennwochenendes in der „Spargelmetropole“ ein PS-Spektakel der Extraklasse. In den beiden Ein-Stunden-Rennen mit Fahrerwechsel (Start am Samstag um 14.45 Uhr und am Sonntag um 13.05 Uhr, jeweils live auf SPORT1) kämpfen zahlreiche Titelaspiranten gegen noch mehr Teams, die rein gar nichts mehr zu verlieren haben – eine brisante Ausgangslage. Wenngleich in dieser Saison nicht Schauplatz des Finales, kann das bunte Treiben in Hockenheim in der Tat richtungsweisend für den Ausgang der Meisterschaft sein. Vier Wertungsläufe vor Schluss liegen der Schweizer Patric Niederhauser und der Südafrikaner Kelvin van der Linde im Audi R8 LMS von HCB-Rutronik-Racing mit 144 Punkten an der Tabellenspitze. Die Corvette-Piloten Markus Pommer und Marvin Kirchhöfer aus der Mannschaft von Callaway Competition weisen bereits einen Rückstand von 40 Zählern auf. From August 30th to September 1st the Autodromo Enzo e Dino Ferrari will be the scenario of the two championships comeback after the Summer break. 44 drivers will face each other on the challenging twists and turns of the 4.909 m track in the hills of Romagna. The two championships, which represent important and challenging transitions in the FIA ideal route from karting to Formula 1, come back in Italy after a great show on European tracks. Drivers and teams are determined to start at best this last two months of races before the final winners will be crowned. All the rankings are still open; the first edition of the Formula Regional European Championship certified by FIA, sees vigorously the rise of Prema Powerteam, with the Danish driver Vesti strongly claiming his first place, but with 25 points to give per each race and 4 races to go only this weekend, the competition is not over yet at all. The internal battle is with Vesti's teammate, Enzo Fittipaldi, currently second, followed by the German David Schumacher (US Racing) and the e-Sport FIA world champion Igor Fraga (DR Formula by RP Motorsport). The confirmed drivers are Mirko Bortolotti (2017 Blancpain GT Series champion and winner of the 2018 24 Hours of Daytona), Andrea Caldarelli (2017 Blancpain GT Series champion), Marco Mapelli (record-holder at Nürburgring-Nordschleife with the Aventador SVJ), and Giovanni Venturini (2017 GT Open champion), who will compete in the most prestigious international championships at the wheel of the new Huracán GT3 EVO, presented at Nürburgring on 15th September. Joining them are two important new entries, British driver Phil Keen and French driver Frank Perera. Born in Reading on 20th October 1983, Keen was runner-up in the British GT in 2017 and in 2018.
