The loss snaps the Whitecaps four-game winning streak, as West Michigan has scored just three runs in their last two games. In their previous three contests, the ‘Caps offense has generated only 11 base hits. The Whitecaps scored their only run when Jordan Pearce scored on an Ignacio Valdez RBI-groundout in the second inning, and the score remained the same until Tyler Friis ripped a game-tying RBI-double with one out in the bottom of the ninth. After an intentional walk of Ernie Clement, reliever John Hayes’ first pitch to Nolan Jones went off the glove of Morgan, allowing the Captains to score and walk off with a victory in game one of the four-game series. Eudis Idrogo pitched brilliantly for West Michigan, tossing six innings of one-run baseball while striking out three, but has now been the starting in three of the four Whitecaps losses this season. Idrogo now holds a 0.53 ERA in 17 innings without having earned a victory. Gregori Vasquez (1-0) earns his first win for the Captains with four shutout innings in relief, while Hayes (0-2) takes his second loss. The Whitecaps went 0-for-11 with runners in scoring position, including stranding runners and second and third with none out in the ninth. RAIN, RAIN, GO AWAY: The Whitecaps have had five games postponed through April 24, with two straight against Lansing being called and forced to be made up during the April 27-29 series against the Whitecaps at Fifth Third Ballpark. ABOUT LAST SEASON: The ‘Caps enjoyed one of the best seasons of any pro baseball team in 2017. Some of the biggest reasons was the pitching staff, which held a 2.77 ERA -- the lowest of any full-season team in . The team also held one of the best home records of any team in at 49-18. The Whitecaps posted 28 shutouts last season -- breaking the MWL record held by Quad Cities (23) in 1974. POSTSEASON AWARDS: The ‘Caps brought home a pair of Midwest League postseason awards on August 18, as manager was honored as Midwest League Manager of the Year in a vote by fellow managers and coaches. Former Whitecap Greg Soto also took home the distinction as the league’s top left-handed starting pitcher after posting a 10-1 record with a 2.25 ERA before a promotion to High-A Lakeland. Radio Broadcaster Dan Hasty also came home with an award, being named the Midwest League Broadcaster of the Year in his third season with the club. HEALTH REPORT: The Whitecap DL consists of 2 players: as both starting pitcher Dane Myers and infielder/outfielder Reynaldo Rivera are both on the mend. ALUMNI REPORT: 2015-17 Whitecaps pitcher allowed just one unearned run in six innings as the beat the Florida Fire Frogs 4-3 in 10 innings on Sunday. Watkins is 2-0 with a 0.55 ERA in 4 games this season after posting his best year with the ‘Caps in 2017, going 9-3 with a 3.22 ERA in 16 games. MORE: Here’s a write-up on Rodriguez from TigsTown, who ranked Elvin as the Tigers #36 prospect entering this season:

“Owner of a projectable 6-foot-3, 180 pound frame, Rodriguez joined the Tigers as part of the deal that sent outfielder Justin Upton to the Angels in August. At his best, Rodriguez’s fastball sits comfortably in the 90-93 mph range and will bump 95 when he needs a little extra. There are scouts that believe Rodriguez could still find another tick or two of velocity as he further develops physically; giving him a chance for a legitimate plus fastball down the line. Rodriguez also offers a curveball and changeup, with the curveball projecting to an above-average offering as he gains experience. At times, Rodriguez looks the part of a potential mid-rotation arm, but at other times he profiles as more of a 7th inning arm because the velocity never fully materializes and his command lags behind.” Roster Breakdown The Last Time the WHITECAPS...
