CIB 3059 Electronic Interference (EMI) Filter

CIB 3059 Comcode 105-282-099 Issue 2 CIB 3059 Electromagnetic Interference (EMI) Filter The EMI Filter (Figure 1) alleviates electromagnetic interference when installed between:

● a voice terminal and a control unit

● the Processor Module in a MERLIN® II Communications System and a printer. Use the filter instead of a modular voice terminal cord to provide protec- tion against conducted interference of .5 MHz to 1000 MHz in field inten- sities of 2 volts per meter to 20 volts per meter. The EMI Filter is com- patible with all voice terminals and all models of the MERLIN Communi- cations System.

Installation Between a Voice Terminal and Control Unit

REMOVE THE EXISTING MODULAR VOICE TERMINAL CORD 1 Unplug the handset and set it aside. 2 If your voice terminal is wall-mounted, remove terminal from the wall mount by sliding it up and away from the wall mount.

iss 2, cib3059-1 3 Turn the voice terminal over. Unplug one end of the modular voice terminal cord from the jack labeled LINE on the voice terminal. 4 Unplug the other end of the modular voice terminal cord from the jack connection, which is either a voice terminal jack in the control unit, a modular voice terminal extension cord, or a modular voice terminal jack.

CONNECT THE EMI FILTER 1 The filter is closer to one end of the cord. Plug this end into the jack labeled LINE on the bottom of the voice terminal (Figure 2).

2 Plug the other end of the modular voice terminal cord into the jack connection, which is either a voice terminal jack in the control unit, a modular voice terminal extension cord, or a modular voice terminal jack. 3 If your voice terminal is mounted on a desk stand, place the filter under the voice terminal.

iss 2, cib3059-2 If your voice terminal is wall-mounted, hold the filter against the back of the voice terminal while sliding the voice terminal back onto the wall mount. Make sure the filter rests securely between the back of the voice terminal and the wall. 4 Plug the handset cord into the handset.

Installation Between a Printer and a MERLIN II Processor Module For installation instructions, refer to “Connecting a Printer to Obtain SMDR Call Reports” in CIB 3100 (packaged with your MERLIN II Pro- cessor Module).
