Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary

All welcome at all Masses Dear Parishioners, Greetings to all as we celebrate this lovely Feast in honour of the Mother of God. In one Tea and coffee is served sense we can celebrate it as the final chapter in the life of Mary when she lived among after Sunday Mass in the us. Elizabeth, her cousin, greets her in today’s Gospel as an exemplar of faith : church garden – all ‘Blessed is she who believed that the promise made her by the Lord would be welcome. fulfilled,’ It is an acclamation that Mary would be constant and firm in trusting God’s holy will from the carrying of Jesus in her womb right through to accompanying the burial of his body in the tomb. Such faith rightly deserved the reward of greeting this NEXT WEEK same Son in his glorious Resurrection. Her exclamation of honour and praise in the Monday 16 August Magnificat (‘My soul glorifies the Lord...’) must surely have been in her heart at that Weekday of Ordinary Time precious moment. No Mass today Tuesday 17 August A very early eastern phrase speaks of the ‘Dormition of Mary’ (her going to sleep) while Weekday of Ordinary Time in the western Church there are early references to her bodily assumption to martyr glory. Both traditions want to draw out the understanding that she who bore the Eternal No Mass today Son of the Father must not be subject to bodily decay and corruption but Wednesday 18 August rather, through the merits of her Son, she too shares in the resurrection of the body. Weekday of Ordinary Time It may seem strange that it was not until 1950 that the Church proclaimed the dogma of No Mass today the Assumption of Mary. As we know, it was not a new belief of our faith but had Thursday 19 August been there for centuries and found expression in a great amount of writing and Weekday of Ordinary Time art. Historic Christian devotion always had a firm place for Mary which was rooted in No Mass today her divine maternity of the Saviour and her total service to the holy will of Friday 20 August God. During the public ministry of Jesus, very few words of Mary are recorded but St Bernard, abbot they are significant. At the wedding feast in Cana she said to those catering at the No Mass today banquet: ‘Do whatever he (Jesus) tells you.’ That is a message which any true disciple Saturday 21 August of Jesus would want to make their own. Naturally enough, we ask her powerful help St Pius X, Pope and intercession that this may ever become more and more a reality for us. No Mass today Sunday 22 August Queen, assumed into heaven. Pray for us. 21st Sunday of Ordinary Father Tony Time Plymouth Tragedy.
