TUESDAY 28th FEBRUARY 2017 MARKET REPORT 24 steers averaged 203.46ppk and topped at 238.50ppk (£1685) 16 young bulls averaged 171.38ppk and topped at 209.50ppk (£1383) 32 heifers averaged 215.47ppk and topped at 259.50ppk (£1461) 12 OTM cattle topped at 176.50ppk (£1219) 1220 Hoggs averaged 158.40ppk and topped at £106.00 (216.00ppk) 80 cull ewes averaged £64.13 and topped at £94.00
A bright and sunny day brought good trade across all departments in Malton market this week. The outdoor pens for hoggs were certainly needed this week as there was another increase in the number of entries, reaching over 1200. There was also a big increase in the number of bulls entered this week as they topped 209.50ppk. Steers were a good trade this week averaging 203.46 and there were certainly more numbers than the previous week. Heifers continue to remain a good trade averaging 215.47ppk and topping 259.50ppk. 16 YOUNG BULLS This week saw a very good number of bulls entered in comparison to previous weeks. The top price per kilo went to an excellent 14 month old British Blue from TJ & S Maw & Son, weighing 630kg and selling for 209.50ppk (£1319) to Rowland Agar Butchers of Ilkley. The top price per head went to another 14 month old British Blue from TJ & S Maw & Son, weighing 690kg and selling for £1383 (200.50ppk) to Cleveland Meat & Co.

Others to do well included a 21 month old Limousin from JH Almond Bempton reaching 191.50ppk (£1340). A 20 month old Stabiliser reached 187.50ppk from M & JE Dowson of Driffield. A BB from RA Smith & Son of Staxton reached 184.50ppk. A Lim from SP Boyes of Malton reached 173.50ppk. Holstein bull topped at 154.5ppk (£934) from RA Smith and Son of Staxton.
24 STEERS A very good number of steers through the market this week, with an improved trade averaging 203.46ppk. The more we get the better we can sell them!! The top price per kilo went to an excellent 14 month old Limousin from DD & P Barnes of Yapham, weighing 535kg and selling for 238.50ppk (£1275) to Radford’s Butchers of Sleights. The top price per head went to an excellent 22 month old BB from WH & DM Curtis of Kirkbymoorside, weighing 775kg and selling for £1685 (217.50ppk) to Worsley Wholesale Butchers.
