2014 Summer Route & Schedule Adjustments

Effective Monday July 21, 2014

The KGB Bus keeps getting more and more popular with locals and this summer we are busier than ever serving our visitors. With this growth comes the need to refine our schedule in order to be timely for our customers. We need to make some changes right away and we know for many of you who depend on us, this change can be worrisome. We are trying hard not to change the route times and only make necessary route adjustments to be able to improve our on-time performance. Also, we are excited to be expanding service to several thousand Ketchikan residents who had no bus service previously.

Below are the highlights, and attached is a revised schedule with the details and maps:

GREEN LINE: Better on-time performance, more of our community served!

• Green Line will now utilize the 3rd Avenue Bypass when exiting the Library stop, in an effort to stay on time and avoid back-tracking through the valley. • Green Line will turn down Jefferson Avenue hill and pull in to the Plaza . The bus will then immediately turn around and head northbound to Walmart. • Green Line will now serve more of the Carlanna neighborhood by extending the loop to include Fairview.

SILVER LINE SOUTH: Now serving Bear Valley!

• Silver Line South will serve the Plaza as usual, but will head up Jefferson, taking the 3rd Avenue Bypass to the Library (this will provide non-stop service to the Library and Rec center for northend borough residents). • After the Library, Silver Line South will head down Schoenbar, take a right on Park Avenue, then left on Mill St. to the Federal Building, where it resumes service in the southbound direction to Saxman and Fawn Mountain. Silver Line will pick up passengers from the downtown and free shuttles before heading further south. • Silver Line South will now be able to transfer Bear Valley riders to the Downtown Shuttle at the Federal Building, adding an additional means of access to the West End.

SILVER LINE NORTH:

• Silver Line North will maintain nearly the same schedule, but will not go into to the as a regularly scheduled stop. It will maintain the airport as a request stop. This creates no loss of service, but does save time by skipping the often unnecessary loop into the airport. Passengers originating from the Airport who need to go north need

SILVER LINE NORTH continued: only take the Green Line and transfer to Silver Line North at Walmart (Green Line will continue to go into Airport Ferry both north and southbound).

“FREE DOWNTOWN SHUTTLE” & “FREE DOWNTOWN / PLAZA MALL EXPRESS”:

• Transit will operate 2 free Downtown Shuttles, restoring the 10 minute frequency between Berth I and Berth IV. • The “Free Downtown Shuttle” will provide service in a loop between Berth IV and the Heritage Center as it currently does. • The new “Free Downtown Express ” will operate in a loop between the Plaza and Berth I, ending at the stop sign next to the Fire Station, where it turns left and heads north. This will provide a transfer to Silver Line South to City of Saxman and locations south of town. • When Silver Line South comes into town from Totem Bight, the driver will instruct passengers who need the cruise ship berths to depart Silver Line and transfer to the “Downtown Express.”

CLOVER PASS & ROOSEVELT COMMUTER ROUTE EXTENSION: New Northend Park & Ride (thanks to Clover Pass Church)!

• Transit is extending service out into the North and South ends of the Borough for commuter service! These route extensions are in the morning and evening 7 days a week. • Silver Line North and Silver Line South will be picking up early mornings from downtown en route to Clover Pass Church on the north end and Roosevelt/Franklin Drive on the south end.

Be the first to ride to town! Join us to commemorate the inaugural commuter route from Clover Pass & Roosevelt area into town. On the northend the Clover Pass Christian Church will be serving coffee, tea & scones between 5:45am-7:00am Monday July 21. parking is available in the church’s main lot closest to Tongass Highway. To ride from the Roosevelt area, walk or ride your bike to the top of Franklin where it intersects with Roosevelt, the bus will pick up at the Mountain Point Water Booster Station, Coffee and doughnuts will be available on the 7:01am run to town (Monday July 21).

If you have any questions or concerns about the changes, trip planning, how to use the bus, park & ride, services, etc., please contact the Ketchikan Gateway Borough Transit Department at 225-TRAN (8726) or Dial 511
