Pinkerton All Rights Reserved May 2010 ABSTRACT The purpose of this study was to examine how mothers participate in an online community, MotheringDotCommunity (MDC), to learn the culture of natural family living (NFL) through an ethnographic case study. Natural family living (NFL) is a lifestyle that promotes holistic well-being. Families focus on nurturing their physical, emotional, and spiritual health. Attachment parenting (AP) is part of NFL. In AP, parents quickly and consistently respond to their children‘s needs in order to promote a strong parent-child attachment; this involves practices such as always responding to a child‘s cries, keeping children within close proximity, and practicing gentle discipline. MDC is an online forum where women can both provide and receive information and support regarding NFL. Data were collected through daily online observations of MDC, archived messages, and interviews with 12 MDC participants. In addition, four MDC member profiles were created in order to highlight the learning process and patterns of activity that occur within the online community. Data were analyzed using the framework of communities of practice, the idea that people learn a practice by interacting within a community. The findings revealed three major themes: (1) by creating and sharing information and receiving community support, MDC members are empowered and encouraged to challenge institutions, (2) through their participation at MDC, women both learn and adapt their identities as NFL mothers, and (3) MDC serves different roles for different members; for some members, MDC is a community of practice, while for others, the forum solely serves as an information resource. I did not go too far, and my destination was always the same: the elementary school where my older sisters attended. My parents would go retrieve me from the school and find me sitting in a desk, my arms stretched upwards and my hands clasped together on the desk. I did not leave the classroom easily as I loved being there and wanted to stay at the school. My parents had no idea at that time just how long I would stay in the classroom, both as a student and as a teacher. My love for education has remained constant, as has the solid support from my parents. For their continual encouragement and love, I am deeply grateful. What should I look for when I buy commercial infant formula? • Always buy commercial infant formula with iron. It may be labelled “iron fortified” or “with iron”. Iron helps to keep your baby’s blood healthy. Iron-fortified infant formula does not cause constipation. • Check the expiry date or best before date. These dates may be printed on the bottom or on the side of the package.

So ends a comment by Sky Boucher, whose tandem breastfeeding selfie “Tea for Two” (Figure 1) went viral in early 2014. Boucher’s comments, which emerged in response to the barrage of both criticism and acclaim elicited by this selfie, suggest that breastfeeding selfies occupy a liminal space and, as such, are not easily integrated into the conventions of selfie culture. Nevertheless, they are also understood by their creators as powerful sites of self-making and community building. In this essay, we examine the politics and production of breastfeeding selfies. We argue that the breastfeeding selfie’s political potential resides at the juncture between sexuality and motherhood. More specifically, it forces mothers (as photographers, subjects, and audience members) and viewers to confront a thorny question: How can one articulate a virtuous maternal self through the lens of what has been broadly understood, within the mainstream media, as a profoundly narcissistic genre? And further, how might breastfeeding—that iconic, embodied practice of motherhood—trouble the very idea of the selfie? To ask these questions, we draw on the notions of socially mediated publicness (Baym & boyd, 2012), microcelebrity (Marwick & boyd, 2011), and networked publics (boyd, 2011).

Within the next couple days, the directors of agencies that have clients on this product will be notified with client info so that the clients can be informed that they will likely stop seeing the product in upcoming months. These participants can ask their physician if the Enfamil Toddler Transitions Soy is a suitable substitute. With a soy toddler contract formula no longer available (the Gerber Graduates Soy), the Enfamil Toddler Transitions soy will be an option without State Approval. If you have clients with new prescriptions for Gerber Graduates Soy, please inquire with the client’s physician if the Enfamil Toddler Transitions Soy is a possible substitute. The physician form on the web is additionally in the process of being updated on azwic.gov. New Stage 3 Gerber Good Start Soy Additionally later this year, Gerber is coming out with a replacement for the Gerber Graduates Soy. It will have limited retail distribution during the 2016 launch period. Not many details are available on this product yet, but will give more info once it becomes available.

    Managing Your Toddler’s Behavior A famous parenting expert, Penelope Leach, reminds us that our toddlers are “no longer a baby, but not yet a child.” Toddlers have specific needs for guidance, attention and structure. Here are a few things to keep in mind. 1. Toddlers need a great deal of structure in their lives. We can develop these plans by making sure that we are realistic in our expectations of their attention span, activity level and understanding. Check with our web site section on child development for more specific information. Keep routines in order, as you go through the daily events of dressing, eating, bathing and bedtime. The more a toddler expects these daily activities, the easier it is to make sure they are completed successfully. 2. Toddlers need to feel they have some control or “say” in their lives. Give your toddler just two choices for snack, drinks and clothes. You may say, “Would you like to wear your sweater or your jacket, today?” to avoid a conflict. You know that either choice fine. Offer these choices only when you know the outcome is safe and healthy. 3. Transitioning from one activity to another can be difficult for toddlers. Picking up toys to music or coming to the table “like a butterfly” will make those changes easier to make. Toddlers, like all of us, respond best when they are warned about an activity change approaching. “When this CD is over we need to put the crayons away and get ready for bath time,” may be a way to ease into the next activity.

Presenting the Good Mother: Experiences of Canadian Adolescent Mothers Living in Rural Communities Abstract Adolescent mothers and their children are at risk for suboptimal health outcomes making adolescent motherhood a public health concern. However, the experiences of rural-living adolescent mothers are not well understood. Using Lieblich, Tuval-Mahiach, and Zilber’s (1998) narrative methodology approach, the experiential accounts of three rural-living adolescent mothers was explored. Reflecting Goffman’s (1959) presentation of self, the findings of this study revealed how adolescent mothers attempted to construct and present their notion of being a good mother, while coping with complicating rural factors.
