Landslide in district Direct Rule Districts, Tajikistan

Situation report № 1 6 April 2015

Situation Overview

Heavy rains on 28 March – 2 April of 2015 in Tajikistan triggered a landslide in Khanjar gorge of Sholipoya area in Yakkabedi village. The landslide occurred on 3rd of April 2015, at approximately 13:10 PM. Its volume was estimated at 175000m3. Khanjar gorge of Sholipoya area is located in Yakkabedi village, Mehrobodi Jamoat, Fayzobod District of Direct Rule Districts (western Tajikistan, 40-45 km from , 20 km from City and 18 km from the center of Fayzobod District).

Damage Information

According to the preliminary information from the Committee of Emergency Situations and Civil Defence (CoES) 10 citizens of the above mentioned village, who repaired the drinking water system at that moment, were covered by the landslide. At the moment 2 of them were found dead and the search and rescue of 8 remaining people is continuing. After the landslide the sources of drinking water system have been affected. Currently, there is a lack of drinking water in the affected village. The landslide occurred out Landslide affected area in Yakkabedi village of Fayzobod District, April 3, of the residential area thus the village and households 2015. Assistance Provided

Government has provided the affected households, who lost their family members in the landslide, with 1 ton of wheat flour, 500 kg of rice, 500 kg sugar and 200 kg of oil. For the search and rescue work 5000 liter of diesel were delivered to the affected area. Committee of Emergency Situations and Civil Defence mobilized a team to undertake debris removal and search and rescuing activities. Neighboring communities are also supporting in the search and rescue operations. To support the search and rescue activities 4 tents (5X4) were provided by CoES. The repairing of the drinking water system has started by the local authorities.
