INVITATION AND CALL FOR PARTICIPATION

During recent years, the value of medicinal plants has been realised due to comprehensive approach towards health problems therefore, the demand for medicinal plants is gradually increasing. Jharkhand is an adobe of innumerable medicinal plants having more than 1000 herbal plant species. The floristic variation occurs over different altitudinal ranges which have made Jharkhand a RATNAGARBHA state for the medicinal plants. But unfortunately the strength of the state for medicinal plants has not been properly explored. Agriculture is the main source of livelihood for the people of the state but is not sufficient to meet all the requirements. Therefore, commercial cultivation and marketing of medicinal plants may be an opportunity for the people of the state to improve their socio-economic condition.

Keeping in view the interest of the people of different fields; the seminar is being organised to discuss and to come to a conclusion which may be a guideline to policy makers for the economic growth of and the people of Jharkhand. This seminar will bring together intellectuals, scholars, policy makers, herbal medicine producers, farmers, traders and students together to discuss the prospects of cultivation of medicinal plants in Jharkhand and their marketing strategies for the national and international markets.

ABOUT THE SEMINAR VENUE

Chas College Chas, one of the oldest colleges of this area, was established in the year 1976 and consequently became a constituent unit of Vinoba Bhave University, Hazaribag. At present, the college caters to the need for education and career development of about 5000 students in the faculties of Arts, Science and Commerce along with research activities. The college is situated on Chas – Purulia – Tata Nagar highway surrounded by the Palash (Butea monosperma) trees also known as the forest flame because of its blood red flowers blooming during February-March which gives a picturesque view of the area. The Hindu religious faith symbolises the three leaflets of Palash as BRAMHA - the creator; VISHNU - the preserver; and MAHESH - the destroyer of the universe. It is also a matter of pride that Palash is the state flower of Jharkhand and also that of Madhya Pradesh.
