COURSE FEES AND FINANCIAL SUPPORT Financial support Learners on eligible income-related benefits and their for course costs dependants may be entitled to a fee concession – that is, their tuition fees may be waived or reduced. Not all courses qualify for fee waiver. In addition, there are some funds available to help with course fees (for those not on income-related benefits), accreditation fees, essential books or equipment, and childcare. You will be asked for evidence of financial hardship, eg proof of benefit, evidence of low household income (usually below £15,276 gross a year) or difficulty in balancing income and expenditure. Help is limited to three courses a year.

2 Multiple course If you are a full fee payer and attend two or more courses at the fee discount same time you will receive a 10% discount on the second or further courses. The full fee is payable for the longest course. If you wish to claim this discount you will need to book either by post or by phone.

Course You can cancel a course booking at any time. To cancel a cancellation course booking, you must inform the WEA in writing (or in and refunds person or by phone). • A full/partial refund will be given to all learners where a course is cancelled or shortened by the WEA • If you cancel a course booking within seven working days of pre-booking, provided that the course has not commenced you are eligible to receive a full refund • If the course is scheduled to be delivered over more than three sessions, you can cancel a booking and request a full refund from the WEA if you cancel prior to the start time of the second session. There may be an administrative charge for this The refund of cancellations of bookings outside those conditions described above shall be considered only in exceptional circumstances. We reserve the right to cancel a class with low enrolments.

Age eligibility Learners must be born on or before 1 August 1992 to be eligible for WEA funding.

The cost of your The WEA receives funding from the Government to subsidise course our courses, which helps us keep fees as low as possible. Without this funding, our fees would be considerably higher than those shown in the brochure. The full fee in 2011/12 would be £7 per hour, but we are able to lower this charge provided we collect the following information from you: • Date of birth: All learners will be asked to provide their date of birth at the time of completing an enrolment form. If this information is not provided, the full course fee will be payable. • UK residency: Learners who have not been resident in the UK/EU for the last 3 years will be required to complete a Learner Eligibility Form and provide appropriate evidence. If this information is not provided, the full course fee will be payable.

Field trips Some courses will have trips as part of the course, which may incur extra costs. We regret that if you don’t go on these visits you cannot reclaim the tutorial cost.

Learner When you enrol with the WEA you will enter into a Learning Agreement and Agreement with us. This is printed on your enrolment form. Code of Conduct There is also a Learner Code of Conduct. Together, these set out the WEA’s and your responsibilities for creating a positive learning environment. You can download both from our website at www.wea.org.uk/policies .
