Brief Industrial Profile of

1. General Characteristics of the District

District Anuppur is predominantly hilly district. It is picturesque with certain pockets and belt of sal and mixed forests. The river Narmada originates from situated on the which gives beautiful view to the District. River Son & Johilla also originate from the Maikal Hills. Total Geographical area of the district is 3701 sq. KM. Adjacent to the district Anuppur are the boarding district Bilaspur Koria (C.G.), , Umarai & Dindori.

1.1 Location & Geographical Area

From Geographical point of view, the District consists of a series of mountain ranges and rivers. It can be divided in to three geographical divisions. 1. High lands of mountain ranges. 2. The Central plateau. 3. Low lands of rivers: - A number of rivers Including Son, Johila, Narmada, Tipan, Bakan, Chandas and Kewai flow in the district, Maikal mountain range is extended from southern part of the district to the eastern part.

1.2 Topography

The district’s topography consists of a series of rivers and mountain ranges. The whole region can be divided into three geographical divisions. These are the highlands of mountain ranges, the lowlands of the rivers and the central plateau. The first division is primarily governed by the Maikal mountain range which extends from the southern part of the district to the eastern part. The rivers on the other hand are represented by the , Son and Johilla, which all originate from the Maikal hills. A third of the district is composed of dense forests, and is generally regarded as a hilly area. Climate-wise, Anuppur has a marked temperate climate, with the monsoon season lasting from June to October. The temperature ranges from a maximum of 46 degrees to 2.6 degrees Celsius.

1.3 Availability of Minerals.

District Anuppur is very rich in its mineral resources. Minerals found in district are coal, Bauxite and fire clay. Most of the Coalmines are located in Sub Division. Amarkantak in known for its Bauxite deposits.

1.4 Forest.

One third of the District consists of forest area. Sal Alma, Teak, Sarai and Shisham are the main trees found in this District. The flower of Mahua and Guli Provide us edible oil. Mahua flower is mostly used for making wine by tribal people.

1.5 Administrative set up.

District Anuppur is divided into 4 tehsils, 04 janpads and 282 Gram Panchayats, There are 04 Municipalities and 02 Nagar Panchayats.
