Members of State Archers of California, I became involved in Archery in the Fall of 2003, when my son joined the Wilderness Golden State JOAD. I helped and provided support to the instructor as needed. I received my Level I card in June of 2004, and became more involved with the Wilderness JOAD. In March of 2005 I received my Level 2 Instructor, and in November of 2013 received my Level 3 Coaching Certificate, I also teach Level I and Level II instructor classes. I became a certified judge in the summer of 2012. During the years I have actively participated/ supported the Wilderness JOAD and the Golden State Archers (adult club) as a member and in coaching, giving willingly of my time, and attending the tournaments with our JOAD group. I have been a part of the tournament team that runs the Pacific Coast Championships and Grapestakes tournaments in Sacramento. I have judged many events across California, and have held judging seminars locally for recruitment of future judges. I am presently an officer of the Wilderness Golden State JOAD and the Golden State Archers. I have also been a past board member, vice president & president of the State Archers of California (SAC). I believe my experience as an archer, coach, judge and past SAC board member would serve you well. My private sector work experience at CalTrans would also add to this. I believe for archery to continue, we need to actively support our JOAD and youth groups as they are our future as well as supporting our Seniors/Masters. I am willing to serve on the board if so elected, and would meet any and all requirements required of me by the board. Thank you, Rick Carfrae JUSTIN CLARKE REGION 1

For those of you who do not know me, my name is Justin Clarke. Currently I am the State Archers of California Vice President. I have been part of the State Archers of California Board for the past four years and have been your VP for the last year and a half. For the last seven years I have been a level two Instructor for Wilderness Golden State JOAD in . Also during this time I became a certified Judge and have judged most State Sanctioned Tournaments along with Tulare and Sacramento National Indoor tournaments. I have also competed a long side of you and have been ranked number one in the state in 2017. During my time as your VP I have started the Bi-Monthly Newsletter to keep communication to our membership. We as a board have worked with USA Archery to update our very out dated By-Laws. We have also started a contract for our tournament hosts to follow to give you the best tournaments in our state. We have also purchased and implemented the electronic scoring. I want you all to know I am devoted to volunteering my time to better enhance our sport in California. As a competitor I have the knowledge of what Tournaments I prefer to compete at. As a Judge I do my best to ensure you are competing without any distractions and are having fun. As your current VP I am here to serve the Membership and better our tournaments and promote archery. In closing I would like to thank all of you for your patience this past year during the pandemic and wish you all a healthy and safe future. Sincerely, Justin Clarke Vice President State Archers of California [email protected] JIM L DUBOIS REGION 1

My name is Jim Dubois, Other things that could be considered for my qualifications as a board member is: I’ve been a competition shooter since I was 12 years old although it was in a small bore rifle NRA competitions. I have also been scoring targets for national match NRA competitions since I was 14. I became a member of USA Archery in August 2017, a certified Archery Judge along with becoming a certified level two instructor and level two instructor trainer. I have been a California Department of Fish and wildlife hunter safety instructor for over 20 years, along with being an NRA certified instructor in five different disciplines. I believe along with what is above in my life experiences have given me a great sense And perspective of things that could be accomplished and to be need to be accomplished within the governing body of an organization, I think I could perform the duties as a board member and with some time in further understanding of some of the inner workings of this discipline, become a very valuable member to USA Archery organization, Sincerely, Jim L DuBois USA Archery member PAIGE PEARCE REGION 1

I am hoping to obtain a position on the State Archers of California Board of Directors as I firmly believe that I could help represent our athlete’s best interests. Our athletes deserve someone in this position who cares enough to speak with them about their ideas, questions, and concerns, and I am confident I can be that person. EXPERIENCE I began shooting a bow at the age of two and have competed in many different organizations over the years including USA Archery, NFAA, ASA, World Archery, IBO, and OPA. This has given me a great understanding of our sport, the different venue’s, athletes goals and desires, and I want to be able to fight for our athlete’s best interests. I will always have a love and passion for this sport and respect for the people involved. I have competed on team USA for years on both junior and senior teams. I qualified for my first Jr World Championships team at the age of 13, and I have been lucky enough to travel with our team many times over the years representing USA Archery. A few of my accomplishments in World Archery include winning the 2018 World Field Championships, taking 2nd at the 2019 Outdoor World Championships, and taking 3rd at the 2019 Pan American Games, winning the 2020 Sydney Indoor World Cup, as well as the 2020 Indoor National Finals, etc. Within USA Archery I have won Arizona Cup, Gator Cup, So Cal, Buckeye Classic, Outdoor Nationals, Indoor National Finals, etc. In NFAA, I have won the Western Classic Trail shoot, Indoor Nationals, the Dakota Classic, Field Nationals, Outdoor Target Nationals, and the Vegas Shoot. GOALS I have been lucky enough to find success across many venues and many tournament styles, but I don’t believe just being a good competitor is enough. I want to be able to give back, make a difference, do what’s right, and stand up for our athletes so their voices can be heard. This sport has given me so much over the years, I feel I need to return that favor. EDUCATION 2020 | TECHNICAL MANAGEMENT, DEVRY UNIVERSITY I recently completed my bachelor’s degree in Technical Management with a 4.0 GPA. This was made possible through the scholarship I received for my participation on Team USA, and I will be forever grateful that I was given that opportunity. State Archers of California (SAC) members, I am currently a SAC Board member serving as Treasurer and would love the opportunity to continue serving our state association. I became involved in archery in 2000 when my six year old niece requested an archery lesson as her birthday gift. She really enjoyed that first session and I spent time volunteering in her classes. Fast forward to 2020, twenty years later, I have found a passion in competing myself, however many of my greatest highlights have been mentoring youths and adults in the sport of archery. To observe their growth and successes has fulfilled me in so many different ways. I can honestly state that I have been truly blessed by many of these amazing archers. As a child of a military family, we moved a great deal, therefore my parents always encouraged involvement with scouting for my brothers and myself. I truly enjoyed the long- lasting friendships made in each new state, along with my scout leaders who taught me so much and encouraged us to give back to our communities. Their dedication to teaching and mentoring inspired me to give back when I was given the opportunity. In 2005, after receiving my instructor certification, I became one of the lead instructors for Wilderness Golden State JOAD. Fifteen years later, I have had the honor and pleasure of mentoring well over 300 youths, either through the JOAD program or summer camps. I have completed my Level 3 NTS coaching certificate and became a certified judge. Wilderness Golden State JOAD is the largest Northern California JOAD and Adult club with over 50 members. Our club provides a structured year-round program offering several classes, from beginners to advanced archers. Our club hosts many events in Northern California, such as The Shoot for the Cure, a benefit for the Susan G. Komen Foundation, Grapestakes Tournament and the Pacific Coast Championships. Wilderness Golden State JOAD has hosted the USA Archery National Indoor and JOAD Indoor Championships in Sacramento for the past four years. Our club members/parents, instructors, and coaches all take pride in providing organized, professional events for the archers of California along with our out of state guests. It would be my honor to continue serving the SAC membership. I wish to continue to promote the sport of archery within our state, bringing new ideas and developing tournaments for the younger ages and changing our state rules to allow yeoman and barebow youth shooters at SAC events. I hope that my contributions to archery over the past 20 years will allow me to serve once again. Thank you for your consideration. Respectfully, Lisa Pole

STANLEY CREELMAN REGION 2

USA Archery State Archers of Board of Directors Nomination Bio and Experience for Stanley Creelman I am applying for a position on the State Archers of California Board of Directors from Region 2, the Central Region. I have been involved with archery for over 30 years, first as a hunter then later as a target archer. I became involved with the Tulare Target Archers as a result of my oldest son who was very involved in the JOAD program and competed for several years. I am currently the President of TTA and have served as Secretary and Treasurer in the past. As a club we are indeed involved in the Calif . State Archery program. We have hosted the Calif . State JOAD and Calif. State Indoor tournaments for over 20 years along with the Nationals, College State Indoor Finals, and Cotton Boll and Grape Stakes outdoor tournaments. It has been a pleasure to be involved with these events and I have gained a wealth of knowledge and met a lot of great people as a result. From a non-archery standpoint, I was the Manager of a Cooperative Ginning Association for 30 years, until my retirement in January of this year. I was a Board member of Calif Cotton Ginners and Growers, Board member of the National Cotton Ginners Assoc. and past President of both organizations. I mention these because I think it helps give me experience in working with people in both personal and business atmospheres. The time spent on these Boards helps give me the ability to make decisions, sometimes easy and sometimes hard, but without bias. I hope I helped make decisions that have propelled these organizations well into the future. Over the many years that I have be associated with the State Archers of Calif. I have witnessed many changes take place. From a time when the State Bylaws were followed pretty closely to a period when it seems they were somewhat set aside. I do not know if this was lack of interest or just a way to get things done. In any event, I think the time has come to get back to basics and have a Board that will follow the Bylaws as set forth by the organization. If the bylaws need to be rewritten or revised for the good of the Calif. archers, then we need to get it done. I hear the rhetoric, but I do not see the solutions being made. I hope I can be of some assistance to help make the solut ions . California is a big state and I agree with the three regions, but I also agree that each needs to be represented and I was pleased to see that factor spelled out on the nomination form. The Central region does not have the number of archers that the North and South regions have but they are still an important segment of the state and need to have a place on the Board. For this reason, I am submitting my nomination form and hope I can be of service to the Archers of California. Stanley Creelman Region 2 Tulare, CA. JEFF FABRY REGION 2

It is safe to say when it comes to archery I am “All In”. In 1988 a motorcycle accident left me without a right arm and leg. My passion for the outdoors helped me rehab but I knew I had a small hole that I couldn’t seal. That hole to my own surprise was being able to shoot a bow. Back in the 80’s and 90’s information on adaptive sports was very limited. My own desire to cast an arrow again, was the fuel to try and shoot with my teeth. Only hearing of an individual shooting this way, I led myself blindly to cast that arrow. With my roommates bow and a piece of blue jeans, I had accomplished my goal. Shooting an arrow without losing any teeth. Whats next???

Looking back at the last 20+ years, I can see a movie where the star is not me but the sport which changed me. The beginning of the story is working at local pro shops to feed the hunger for knowledge on tuning and maintaining equipment. Then we move to the infancy of a competitive archer who climbed to the pinnacle of his sport. But the growth of the athlete is not the end, the athlete continuing to give back to his sport so others can find “their own” is the chapter we are currently on.

Helping to grow our sport and aid archers is what has drawn me to want to be part of SAC Board of Governors in the Central Region. I have been on Para Athlete Advisory Boards with USA Archery, coach for different groups and understand there needs to be a balance established not only between the governing body and athlete but between the three regions represented in SAC. Am I the guy who can fix all? No! I am the guy who wants to see things happen and will do my best so we can all do it together.

A FEW ACCOMPLISHMENTS

COMPETITIVE MEMBER OF USA PARA ARCHERY TEAM 2003-2017

• Competed in 8 Para World Championships, winning 4 individual titles

• Part of 2004, 2008, 2012, 2016 Paralympics

• Winning individual Gold in 2012, first individual gold medal to come home from an Olympic/Paralympic Games since Justin Huish Gold Medal in 1996.

LEVEL 4 NTS COACH

• Watching an individual who says they “can’t” or “I don’t want to” shoot their first arrow, only to prove themselves wrong is always a high light for a coach. That feeling for me is just as intense as watching my own students shoot in a Gold Medal match.

• As coaches we are groomed to help our athletes. But the difference between coaches is who can think outside the box to help their athlete. A code most of us para archers live by.

2005 USA ARCHERY ATHLETE OF THE YEAR/PARALYMPIAN OF THE YEAR

2013 NOMINATED FOR ESPY AWARD, BEST MALE ATHLETE WITH A DISABILITY. FIRST ARCHER TO BE NOMINATED FOR AN ESPY

2016 AWARDED USA ARCHERY VOLUNTEER COACH OF THE YEAR

2017 NOMINEE IN WORLD ARCHERY ATHLETE OF THE YEAR AWARDS

I have not been on my journey alone. Most of this would have never happened if my wife, Crystal, was not by my side telling me to “Go”. Then add two kids, Rebecca and Joseph. Now I have a new coach in the house, Rebecca, and a pretty good bow mechanic, Joseph!

Like I said in the beginning, “When it comes to Archery, I am all in!”

Thank you, Jeff Fabry FRANCIS PARCHASO REGION 2

DAWNEL SCOTT REGION 2

I started my journey into archery in May 2009 as my gift to myself for completing my master’s degree. I began with local fun shoots and state competitions in both NFAA and USA archery. By 2011, I had competed in my 1st international tournament at the IFAA in Argentina, winning a silver medal in Veteran Women’s Freestyle. I continue to compete in local, regional, state, national and international competitions in barebow, freestyle and bowhunter freestyle classes. I have been a member of USA Archery since 2010 and in that time, I have gained certification as a Level 3 NTS instructor where I focus my work with visually impaired archers. In 2017, I completed my USA Archery certification classes and testing for judging and am a certified archery judge. I am Archery co-chair of the Bay Area Senior Games and have completed annually in those games since 2011 and in the National Sr Games in 2013, 2015 and 2019. As a member of Black Mountain Bowman, I serve as secretary/treasurer for Mission Trail Bowhunters Association (MTBA) (CA56). I am 2nd VP Indoor for CBH and manage the State Indoor championship which typically has over 700 participants at 28 sites state-wide. I have a good understanding of what it takes to host events, with the ability to make and stay within a budget, provide reports to controlling organizations, and most importantly, I can manage a safe and competitive event. I currently hold the office of Secretary for SAC and have worked to build a repository of meeting minutes and important documentation related to SAC. I volunteered for the task force working with USA Archery to bring the SAC Bylaws up-to-date. My participation in SAC, as well as local and regional clubs and the Sr Games has provided me with great opportunities to organize and manage events. I believe in giving back -- archery is a sport that anyone can enjoy, and I hope that my contributions in the various organizations help others to love this sport as much as I do. JASON L. VACCARELLO REGION 3

Jason L. Vaccarello 75179 Santa Fe Trail Palm Desert, CA 92211 (760) 861-2417 [email protected] SAC BOARD MEMBER APPLICATION BIO • Jason Vaccarello • Age 44 • 35 years of experience in competitive Olympic style recurve archery. • Born and raised in Southern California • Resident Athlete at the US Olympic Training Center, both in Colorado Springs, CO and Chula Vista, CA for 1992 – 1997. • USAT team member 1994-1996 • Jr National Champion – 1995 • Jr World Championship Bronze Medal (Men’s Team) – Roncegno, Italy - 1994 • World Record (Men’s Team Round) – Roncegno, Italy – 1994 • Firefighter/Paramedic 23 years (Palm Springs Fire Department) I started shooting archery in 1987 at a Boy Scout camp under the direction of John Kruger of Riverside Archery. I later was introduced to Bob Graham in Palm Desert, Ca who to this day is still my coach. Little did I know at the time that archery would take me on a journey all over the world for the next 30 plus years. I credit my success in the sport with having good direct from key people here in California. Like SAC Members Carl Radde and Sandy Gottlieb, who pioneered California archery to what it is today. So significant, that we award achievements in honor of their names. Over the past 30 years I’ve had the honor of competing all over the world. Today I continue to compete at both international and national USAT sanctioned tournaments as a senior men’s recurve archer. But I have to say that nothing is more pleasing to me to compete here at home in California. From the foggy mornings of Discovery Park to the hollowed grounds of El Dorado, no other place has been more special to me. For many years I watch California archers dominate the sport both nationally and internationally. But we’ve lost our luster. No longer are we the powerhouse we once were. But the time is now for change. With my long history in the sport, predominantly here in California and my leadership skills from nearly 25 years in the fire service, I’m ready to give back and share my experience to rebuild what we had. I going to take teamwork and transparency with my knowledge and history to help get us back on track. Its time for me to give back and I would be honored to help lead the way. WENDY WHALEN REGION 3

I am a California native, archer, Continental Judge, and tournament director who is passionate about providing education, fair and consistent judging, and excellent tournament experiences to archers. I have co-hosted the California State Outdoor Championships, the Desert Open, and the Duel in the Desert for the last five years in addition to originating the CORR and California Beach Cup tournaments, and the Shoot Out JOAD charity series. I’m dedicated to providing archers with a variety of high- quality tournaments that will propel them to national competition and above. As a judge, I love working closely with archers and helping them recognize rules as keys to their success in competition. During my tenure on the SAC Board, I have been most proud of the progress we have made in introducing tablets at tournaments, increased education of judges, and rededicating the Board to the membership through voting and archer input. If elected to the SAC Board, I would invest my time in redoubling efforts to establish more archer involvement and transparency on the Board, facilitate scoring education on a JOAD level to expedite tournaments, furthering judge development, and addressing concerns by taking direct feedback from archers and membership.
