Glover Park Gazette 5 Invasive English Ivy Choking Glover Park Trees Marla Leftwich lover Archibald Park and Whitehaven Parkway (the technical name of the park between W Street and Reservoir Road) are Gunder siege. Unfortunately, you don’t have to look far to see evidence of the invasive English ivy problem here in Glover Park—it’s everywhere. Just by driving through our neighborhood and walking in our surrounding park, English ivy can be seen strangling, smothering, and sucking the life out of the trees in our tree boxes and neighbors’ yards. It’s along the perimeters of our park behind W Street between Huidekoper and 40th street and all along W street as it turns into 42nd Street all the way up to Tunlaw Road—all places where it’s much harder to get at and eradicate. It’s stretching into the inner part of the park as well. In many cases, the ivy has grown all the way up to the crown of scores of trees and those are in the most serious danger of being lost forever.
