The settlement was founded in 1775 by Sri Sultan Hamengkubuwono I as housing facility for the abdi dalem (palace employees) on religious affairs. The settlement has undergone many changes influenced by politics, power and globalization that eventually brought modernization to the settlement. Starting from 1912, the settlement began to be strongly influenced by Muhammadiyah organization. Even though the Kauman settlement is now an open community and no longer part of the palace bureaucracy, its people still practice the way of life based on Javanese cultural values supported by piety in practicing Islamic rules in daily life from generation to generation. The Kauman settlement today exist authentically as both a Muslim society and part of the Javanese traditional culture. This authenticity is visible in the settlement layout and the buildings within, which reflect a calm and cozy urban village settlement with its own characteristics amidst the business and tourism center of Yogyakarta. -

MEIS__________________Jurnal Middle East and Islamic Studies, Volume 5 No. 2 Juli – Desember 2018 Nilai-Nilai Edukatif Suluk Ketentraman Jiwa Sunan Bonang dalam Pandangan Islam Fatchullah Zarkasi, Mu’minatus Fitriati Firdaus Universitas Gunadarma E-mail : [email protected], [email protected] Abstract The majority of Indonesia's population are Javanese with distinctive traditions, such as other communities, which give a distinctive color to the development of patterns of understanding and practice of Islam in this country. The typical Javanese Islam is often called kejawen Islam, or abangan. The majority of Javanese who are called by many parties "abangan people" have their own views on the major religions in the World. For Niels Mulder in his book, Javanese tend to view Islam as an Arab religion, so that Islam seems to have failed to be placed as a basis for living beliefs for the Javanese. However, almost no Muslim in Indonesia has never heard the name Wali Songo, a collective unit of 9 guardians. Sunan Kalijaga is better known than the other 8 guardians with various monumental works. The world of puppet is said to be the fruit of the work of this guardian, as Sekaten, which has been called, is a tradition of celebrating the birthday of the Prophet which is officially celebrated by the Kingdom of Yogyakarta and Surakarta, to the present. According to Prof. Dr. Omar M. Taomy al Syaibany in his book Philosophy of Islamic Education, he said: “Islamic education is an attempt to change the behavior of individuals in their social life and also in the natural environment through the educational process. -

Space definition not only involves physical features but also deals with social capital for human development. Regarding this matter, the research puts the perspective of space as a subject or as a work of art that needs better comprehension rather than considering it as merely an object or fact. Kampung Kauman is a traditional Moslem village located around the Grand Mosque in some cities of Java. In the city of Semarang, Kauman area is an expression of human culture built up over times and experiences for three centuries. Approach : The study applies investigative-method on the transcendental aspects of space by using ethnography-architecture. The classification of ethnography-architecture concentrates on single case. The method applies approaches on culture and design and also participant observation as research tools which will be concluded with open themes. Results : After observing Kauman Pompa Semarang, the research discovers local concepts of ‘the charity space’ and ‘the social intensive space’. Conclusion : The research is a unique knowledge for architecture since the approach on culture reveals the role of Islamic culture in establishing kampung Kauman (Kauman village). 1. Sejarah Singkat Pondok Pesantren Kauman
BAB IV HASIL PENELITIAN DAN PEMBAHASAN A. Gambaran Umum Pondok Pesantren Kauman Kecamatan Lasem Kabupaten Rembang 1. -

Halal Bi Halal, a Festival of Idul Fitri and It's Relation
HALAL BI HALAL, A FESTIVAL OF IDUL FITRI AND IT’S RELATION WITH THE HISTORY OF ISLAMIZATION IN JAVA Saiful Hakam Lembaga Ilmu Pengetahuan Indonesia (LIPI) [email protected] Abstract In this paper I will discuss three topic: the origin of Idul Fitri, the halal bi halal tradition and the history of Islamization in Java. Based on Robert Redfied’s notion of great tradition and little tradition, I want to argue that the festival of Idul Fitri in Java is more happy, cheery, and merry rather than in the origin country because in the past the intellectuals who propagated Islam did not try to change radically the local traditions, however they preferred to recontinue the ancient traditions with a new religion from great tradition, Islam. It was a very smooth and smart movement because they revive the ancient traditions by Islamizing the ancient tradition. Keywords: Halal bi Halal, Idul Fitri, Islamization in Java Saiful Hakam: Halal bi Halal................. In this paper I want to discuss the development of the great tradition1 and little tradition in Java.
