  • Cricket Memorabilia Society Postal Auction Closing at Noon 10
CRICKET MEMORABILIA SOCIETY POSTAL AUCTION CLOSING AT NOON 10th JULY 2020 Conditions of Postal Sale The CMS reserves the right to refuse items which are damaged or unsuitable, or we have doubts about authenticity. Reserves can be placed on lots but must be agreed with the CMS. They should reflect realistic values/expectations and not be the “highest price” expected. The CMS will take 7% of the price realised, the vendor 93% which will normally be paid no later than 6 weeks after the auction. The CMS will undertake to advertise the memorabilia for auction on its website no later than 3 weeks prior to the closing date of the auction. Bids will only be accepted from CMS members. Postal bids must be in writing or e-mail by the closing date and time shown above. Generally, no item will be sold below 10% of the lower estimate without reference to the vendor.. Thus, an item with a £10-15 estimate can be sold for £9, but not £8, without approval. The incremental scale for the acceptance of bids is as follows: £2 increments up to £20, then £20/22/25/28/30 up to £50, then £5 increments to £100 and £10 increments above that. So, if there are two postal bids at £25 and £30, the item will go to the higher bidder at £28. Should there be two identical bids, the first received will win. Bids submitted between increments will be accepted, thus a £52 bid will not be rounded either up or down. Items will be sent to successful postal bidders the week after the auction and will be sent by the cheapest rate commensurate with the value and size of the item.

20 1 ABOUT US OUR VISION “To nurture thought leaders and practitioners through inventive education” CORE VALUES Breakthrough Thinking and Breakthrough Execution Result Oriented, Process Driven Work Ethic We Link and Care Passion “The illiterate of this century will not be those who cannot read and write, but those who cannot learn, unlearn, and relearn.” - Alvin Toffler At WeSchool, we are deeply inspired by the words of this great American writer and futurist. Undoubtedly, being convinced of the need for a radical change in management education, we decided to tread the path that leads to corporate revolution. Emerging unarticulated needs and realities require a new approach both in terms of thought as well as action. Cross-disciplinary learning, discovering, scrutinizing, prototyping, learning to create and destroy the mind’s eye needs to be nurtured and differently so. We school has chosen the ‘design thinking’ approach towards management education. All our efforts and manifestations as a result stem from the integration of design thinking into management education. We dream to create an environment conducive to experiential learning. 2 MESSAGE FROM THE DIRECTOR Dear Readers, It gives me great pride to introduce SAMVAD’s edition every month. Our SAMVAD team’s efforts seem to be paying off and our readers seem to be hooked onto our magazine. At WeSchool we try to acquire as much knowledge as we can and we try and share it with everyone. Prof. Dr. Uday Salunkhe Group Director As we begin a new journey with 2019, I sincerely hope that SAMVAD will reach new heights with the unmatched enthusiasm and talent of the entire team.

Vol. 59 No. 41 • April 17, 2018 • Pages 8 President’s Pick Dear friends, Staying in Tune It isn't often that the Rotary International President Elect comes visiting. And it isn't often that our Club's member is felicitated by the Rotary International president Elect, and that too right here in sunny Mumbai. And so April 6th. was a special day for us. A day when our Trustee and Past President Arvind Jolly was felicitated by Barry Rassin (President Elect R.I.) on his becoming an Arch Klumph Member. For those who came in late, this is a distinction conferred on a member who has contributed at least USD 2,50,000/- to the movement, and is named after the sixth President of Rotary International. Congratulations to Arvind. He truly is such a fine gentleman and jolly good person (sorry I couldn't resist that pun). And now let's read what he himself had to say about his special day. Regards, Ramesh Narayan "The experience was most enjoyable and certainly Rashmi and I would have very fond memories of this event for years to come. Everything was just perfect, there were some initial hiccups but then everything got better and better. he Tuesday meeting began not with a Our District Governor, Prafull Sharma speaker as is typical, but a technical glitch along with our President Ramesh Narayan and Vice President that made the experience of singing the Vijay Jatia worked really hard to make the event very special T and memorable. national anthem a little more heroic, for we had to keep in tune without being guided by the backing We were lucky to hold the event in the Ball Room of the Taj Palace.

Volume 1 Issue 5 October 2018 Message to the Readers “May you live in interesting times” is a traditional Chinese curse. The period after the 2015 amendments to the Arbitration and Conciliation Act, 1996 has undoubtedly been interesting times. Whether the consequent evolution of the law will turn out better for the Arbitration regime, both international and domestic, will depend on how effectively the law is likely to be implemented. The last few months have been particularly noteworthy. The applicability of the 2015 amendments to the Arbitration and Conciliation Act, 1996 itself was a bone of contention before various courts. In The Board of Control for Cricket in India Vs. Kochi Cricket Pvt. Ltd., the Supreme Court categorically held that, “…Section 36 as amended should apply to Section 34 applications filed before commencement of Amended Act.” The result of this is that there is no automatic stay of the Arbitration award even if the award was made before October 2015. GOVERNING COUNCIL In Cheran Properties Limited Vs. Kasturi & Sons Ltd. and others and in Ameet Justice M.N.Venkatachaliah Former Chief Justice of India Lalchand Shah and others Vs. Rishabh Enterprises and other the Supreme Soli J. Sorabjee Court elaborated and defined the contours of certain important principles. In Former Attorney General of India the Cheran properties case, the enforcement and execution of an arbitration K.K.Venugopal award before the National Company Law Tribunal was discussed and the law Attorney General of India, Senior Advocate, was laid down. Likewise, in Ameet Lalchand case, the court discussed the Supreme Court of India jurisprudential basis for holding how a mere allegation of fraud would not Justice AP Shah, preclude a reference to arbitration.

A lot of students face problems in the General Awareness / Business Awareness / General Knowledge section of MBA entrance exams like XAT, IIFT, and SNAP. That happens because they start "preparing" for it once they are done with their Quant, LR/DI and Verbal prep (sometimes even after CAT) - which is often too late. Ideally, no one should have to prepare for something like General Awareness. But sadly, we don't live in an ideal world. And even those, who try to prepare with the help of websites, news services, etc. suffer from too much information. They cannot filter the relevant information and often give up on GK all-together. It should not be that way. Even if you can devote just 3 hours a week to GK from now on, you will be very well placed when the time comes. It doesn't take much because you don't need a high score to clear the cutoff. The problem is most students are so blissfully unaware about what is going on in the world and clearing the cutoff is not that big a deal. Just do an experiment, next time you are in a group of students preparing for Management Entrance exams, ask them - "Who is the Vice President of India?" You will get what I am talking about. As a first step, you need to know what actually gets asked in the exam and you can find that in the PDF. You will find 6 past year GK papers (with answers) in this PDF. Version : 6.1 They are: IIFT 2012 IIFT 2013 IIFT 2014 IIFT 2015 IIFT 2016 IIFT 2017 And for more, you can have a look at my GK course available here: https://handakafunda.com/gk-general-knowledge-xat-iift-snap If you have any more questions about the course, please send me an email on [email protected] or call me on 09765142632.

It is particularly timely, with studies in the political, cultural, anthropological, ethnographic, social, economic, geographical and aesthetic elements of sport proliferating in institutions of higher education. Eric Hobsbawm once called sport one of the most significant practices of the late nineteenth century. Its significance was even more marked in the late twentieth century and will continue to grow in importance into the new millennium as the world develops into a ‘global village’ sharing the English language, technology and sport. Other Titles in the Series The Making of New Zealand Cricket, 1832–1914 Greg Ryan Cricket and England A Cultural and Social History of theInter-war Years Jack Williams Rain Stops Play Cricketing Climates Andrew Hignell Women, Sport and Society in Modern China Holding Up More than Half the Sky Dong Jinxia Sport in Latin American Society Past and Present Edited by J.A.Mangan andLamartine P.DaCosta Sport in Australasian Society Past and Present Edited by J.A.Mangan and John Nauright Sporting Nationalisms Identity, Ethnicity, Immigration and Assimilation
