Package IV – Umadi –Karnataka Border of section NH 516 A from Ch. 95+136 to Ch. 131+139 (Total Length – 36.003 Km)

Some portion of Tembhurni-Pandharpur-Umadi upto Vijapur Karnataka border section of NH 516A from project alignment passes through six number of forest patches covering a total length of 4.295 km admeasuring an area of 10.308 Ha. Therefore, it involves diversion of this forest land for above upgradation purpose under Forest (Conservation) Act, 1980. The project alignment is an amalgamation of MSH-8 and SH-155 passing through Tembhurni Pandharpur Mangalwedha Marwade Umadi upto Vijapur Karnataka border of NH 516A forms an important artery for movement of goods from , Solapur and Sangli District to Karnataka. Tembhurni-Pandharpur-Umadi project alignment passes through six number of forest patches covering a total length of 4.295 km admeasuring total area of 10.308 Ha. Since this is an up-gradation project of existing highway to two lane/four lane with paved shoulders, so no alternative has been examined. Wherever possible non-forest area has been used for the alignment. Since the alignment already exists through 4.295 km of forest land, it can not be located in non-forest area. Hence, the consideration for up-gradation of proposed alignment through forest area is fully justified. (v) Cost-benefit analysis Cost Benefit (CB) analysis is not essential as the forest area (to be enclosed). proposed for diversion for this project is <20 ha.
