Highlights • According to the information from AFAD - Disaster and Emergency Management Agency of , the total number of Syrians registered in 15 camps in 7 provinces increased by 15% since end of 2012 and exceeded 170,000 persons including 221 Syrians under medical treatment in hospitals. • Reportedly during the reporting period of 28 Jan-03 Feb 2013 7,693 Syrians were admitted from the borders while 1,440 Syrians returned voluntarily to Syria. According to the official statistics, during the month of Jan 2013, 19,693 (14% increase since end of 2012) Syrians were admitted from the borders and registered in the camps. • During the visits to the camps, UNHCR Field Teams were informed by the local authorities of Nizip town that due to shortage of space in the existing camps, approximately 8,000 Syrians are being accommodated in 11 different public places in town of Nizip and their registration by the authorities is on going. It was observed by UNHCR Field teams that the conditions of these Syrians is far from those who are accommodated in the camps. The authorities informed UNHCR Field teams that the container site in Nizip with 5,000 capacity is expected to be opened by mid Feb 2013 in consultation with AFAD Directorate some of these people in public places may be transferred to the container site. • UNHCR Field Teams are informed by the Coordinator Governor that the number of Syrians living in urban areas is estimated to be approximately 100,000 of whom the majority is assumed to be living in Legend Gazinatep, Kilis, Sanliurfa provinces. Reportedly some 20,000 Syrians who are registered by the two camps in Sanliurfa province . Military Defectors Camp • During the meetings with the local authorities, it was also reported those who are accommodated Current Tent Camps temporarily in the public places are provided with food assistance and medical assistance. It was Current Container Camps reported that as per new circular of the Government of Turkey to the respective provinces hosting Syrians in urban areas to provide medical assistance.
