Event Black Cats Arts Collective : Is Feminism A Dirty Word? Date Monday, March 2, 2020 at 4 PM – 6 PM, Contact Instagram @Blackcatsartcollective / Facebook @Blackcatsartcollective Location Keele University Art Gallery Details

From Disney, Barack Obama, Jacinda Ardern and Tracey Emin, we explore and question not only how feminism has evolved throughout the decades but also how contemporary art has been influenced by it. To aid our understanding of this complex word and movement, we will be referencing feminist theorists and personalities such as Yoko Ono, Maya Angelou, Helene Cixous, Simone De Beauvoir and Mary G. Dietz

Who are the Black Cats? The great artists Frida Kahlo, Ernest Hemingway, Ai Weiwei, Salvador Dali, Karl Lagerfield, David Bowie and Marilyn Monroe were all owned by their cats and so when choosing a name for the meet-ups Black Cats Art Collective was born. The Black Cats Art Collective engage critically and creatively with varied forms of visual art through a series of monthly workshops. The sessions are devised and led by Prea Kaur and Danielle Wallace, both postgraduates at Keele University.

FREE | All are welcome to attend!

Please reserve your space and either contact Prea or Danielle through email. Prea [email protected] Dannielle [email protected]

This exhibition complements the ‘New Vic – Next Stage’ artwork Philip is currently working on to help raise funds to refurbish the New Vic Theatre.

Directed by Ruth Carney. Two, Jim Cartwright’s dark comedy, will be set in a Potteries-inspired pub complete with on-stage working bar when it is performed at the New Vic Theatre from Friday 31 January to Saturday 22 February.

Behind the taps of their typically working-class Stoke-on-Trent boozer, the Landlord and Landlady are an out- of-love couple who bicker with each other, but welcome their regulars with open ears and arms. The rich human stories of all the regulars who visit the establishment will make audiences laugh and cry in equal measure, while the proprietors keep their spirits up, and the drinks and conversation flowing.

However – an unspoken tragedy casts a shadow on the relationship between this husband and wife, a tragedy they must confront after a lost boy turns up on their doorstep looking for his dad. For the first time in seven years, they are forced to face up to their demons. Will this emotionally-charged evening tear them apart or bring them together?

Two actors, Jimmy Fairhurst (Cinderella, Not Too Tame/Seabright, Look Back In Anger, Derby/Bolton Octagon, Brassed Off, Derby) and Samantha Robinson (Rita, Sue and Bob Too, Out of Joint/Royal Court, Screwed, Theatre 503, Educating Rita, Mercury, Colchester) play all 14 characters in Jim Cartwright’s poignant play, which takes place over a single booze-filled night. With the help of in Burslem, the set of this intimate production features an onstage working bar, and will take audiences into the heart of a location familiar to us all – that of the local community pub.
