Founded in 1927, the Yeshivah of Flatbush is a co-educational modern Orthodox school serving 2,000 students and their families from Early Childhood through High School. We stand at the forefront of American Jewish education and set the standard of excellence emulated by other academic institutions. We imbue our students with a thirst for knowledge, a commitment to Zionism, a love of the and the dedication to serve the greater Jewish and general communities. The school synthesizes Jewish studies, the arts and sciences and extracurricular activities with great emphasis on character development. The school presents a unique combination of Jewish and American values that focuses on all aspects of education and enables our graduates to meet the challenges of college and life. In the years to come, we look forward to continuing the traditions of excellence, innovation and leadership that have made us a world-renowned institution.

With 640 students and 125 staff members, the high school is a dynamic environment with a robust blend of Jewish studies, general studies, and extracurricular activities.

The high school employs multiple platforms to educate our students, such as technology, co-curricular courses, special assemblies, weekend retreats and seminars.

Students are encouraged to spend a year of study in Israel before embarking on their college careers. At the same time, students benefit from an outstanding general studies curriculum that includes a wide variety of electives and AP courses, preparing them for admission to top colleges.

Beginning in ninth grade, our College Guidance Department guides every student through the college application process with workshops for parents and students and guidance in preparing college essays.

The Pathfinders Program encourages students to discover and expand their unique academic pursuits, talents and career interests. This innovative program, a natural complement to college guidance, is an exciting way for students to strengthen their college portfolios, build resumes and network. The Opportunity Yeshivah of Flatbush Joel Braverman High School seeks a dynamic educational leader to serve as Principal of our vibrant school. Our next Principal will embrace and embody our Core Values and will further our mission to develop students who are observant, educated citizens through an intellectually rigorous and spiritually inspiring education. This Principal will have three primary areas of focus: 1. Cultural Leadership

Cultural Leadership  Cultivate a positive learning environment in the Yeshivah that builds trust, cooperation, and high expectations.  Serve as a personal role model of the Yeshivah’s Core Values.  Represent the Yeshivah positively to the broader community and parent body.

Educational Leadership  Lead in recruiting, hiring and supervising high school faculty.  Supervise instruction, pedagogy and curriculum development independently and in collaboration with department chairs.  Collaborate with the Elementary School to strengthen the skills and curriculum of incoming students.  Promote efforts to prepare our students for admission to the top colleges.  Network and explore with high school and college professionals to explore current educational methods and future ideas.  Motivate and implement professional development in all areas. Administrative Leadership  Monitor the academic and personal  Lead in recruiting, hiring and progress of all students in supervising administrative staff. collaboration with principals, grade  Supervise the school building’s daily advisors, Guidance Department and operations and uphold rules. the College Guidance Department.

Electives A rich offering of electives is being added to the already extensive list of classes available for high school students to enroll in so that they may stimulate their learning experience, in accounting; graphic design; advanced ; applied engineering; Calculus; creative writing; criminal, Constitutional, business, employment and international law, drama and public speaking; forensics science; French; genetics; photography; robotics; STEM; Virtual Enterprises International; and more.

Science Olympiad In the Jewish Education Project’s Science Olympiad, Yeshivah of Flatbush students received medals in Bridge Building, Chemistry Lab, Compound Machines, Green Generation and Picture This.

Pathfinders The Pathfinders Program engages students in a variety of career building opportunities, exploring student interests outside of the classroom, in industries that vary from medicine and business to architecture and fashion.

College Guidance College Guidance helped our recent 161 graduates submit 1,025 college applications. Students were accepted to 70 different colleges and universities and received over $3 million in merit scholarship money.

Tefillah The Junior and Senior Minyan Mentor Program enriches our Freshman and Sophomore students daily with a personal inspirational message. Each month, our Tefillah discussion focuses on a specific theme, through videos, songs and story.

Heritage Trip Yeshivah of Flatbush seniors, parents and faculty visited this past spring on the annual Senior Heritage Trip. They visited death camps, the Warsaw Ghetto and cemetery and some of the earliest shuls in Poland.

Chesed Mission to Israel Students, faculty and parents express their care in a weeklong experience, including visits to hospitals, special children’s programs, army bases and soup kitchens with gifts and donations from YOF sponsors and our Tzedakah commission.

Phoenix – Award Winning Student Newspaper In 2015, the newspaper earned Second Place among high schools with enrollments of 500-1,000 from the American Scholastic Press Association. Additionally, an article about the school’s bulletin boards written by Editor-in-Chief Michelle Harari was one of only four articles nationwide to be awarded the ASPA designation of Outstanding Investigative Journalism.

Mitzvah Clowns After Areyvut Clown Training, each new Mitzvah Clown is equipped with the knowledge and skills for bikkur cholim, the elderly and those with special needs. Students use these skills on YOF Traveling Troupe outings to nursing homes and hospitals.

Mock Trial The 2014-15 Mock Trial team advanced to the quarterfinals [top 8 teams out of over 90 in NYC] and competed against the eventual winners of the NYC bracket.

Beyond the Classroom Students join over 120 extracurricular activities in arts, politics, sports, debate, Israel advocacy, chesed and more.

Creativity on Display The Annual Evening of the Arts, coordinated by the Art, Drama and Music faculty, showcases our students’ creativity to an overflow crowd of parents, faculty and friends.

Cross-Curricular Initiative As a Partner School with Facing History, our students benefit from outstanding visiting keynote speakers, the entire contents of the print and video libraries of the Facing History organization, and the benefit of the Facing History curriculum, which prepares students to become leaders in the community.

Digital Resources The library has acquired hundreds of e-book titles, easily accessible and downloadable through our online catalogue. The library also provides touchscreen computers and iMacs for student use.

Israel Activism Students meet weekly to discuss issues and promote a positive feeling about Israel. They prepare for a lobbying trip to Capitol Hill and AIPAC headquarters in Washington, DC and Israel Advocacy Symposium for schools in the metropolitan area.

Cooking for a Cause Students prepare a variety of entrees while participating in a chesed event. All of the food is sent to needy families who can enjoy delicious homemade dinners.

Witness Theater Witness Theater commemorates Yom HaShoah as the culmination of a year-long heartfelt collaboration between seniors and Holocaust survivors. In the original dramatic production, students express survivors’ stories for a lasting impact on participants and audience.

Blueprint for Excellence Enhancements began with modernization of the science labs, student lounge, lobbies, auditorium and new Laniado Auxiliary Gym. We are now designing a Bet Midrash, library, gymnasium, digital arts wing, guidance center, student commons and more.
