A reasonable entry of prime cattle met with a similar trade to recent weeks with averages reduced by a number of dairy heifers which themselves sold well. The best shape single- suckled steers and heifers realising premium prices. Top price of the day was 234p/kg and £1,668 for a grand 713kg Limousin x steer from Messrs. R.H. & C.D. Care of St. Buryan purchased by J.V. Richards Ltd of Perranwell Station (pictured opposite). Messrs. Care’s Limousin x heifer standing top value too making £1,345 (223p/kg) to R.J. Trevarthen Ltd of Roskrow with their South Devon x taking the premium knocked down at 225p/kg to Messrs. Rapson of Tavistock.

Included in the section, a South Devon steer just under 4 years old from Mr. G. Symons of St. Anthony, The Roseland made 166p/kg. A super 854kg South Devon x for Mr. M.R.J. Eddy of Wendron topped at 159p/kg and £1,358 to David King of Exeter. On the dairy side, a Friesian heifer hit 148p/kg for Messrs. W.J.A. & S.J. A super entry of stores with numbers building as the sun shines and the grass grows with prices remaining as firm as recent weeks with a wide selection of cracking young cattle offered to an increasing attendance of buyers. Top at £1,290 were a British Blue x steer pair from Mr. W.M. Mark of Tywardreath, with four super Devons over from Tresco Estate next at £1,230. A 17mo Charolais x steer making £1,140 for Messrs. R. & D.P. Rule of Mawla and British Blue crosses the same age £1,100 for Messrs. J.A. & J.H. Mann of Zennor. An entry of 15 super stores from Trevedra Farm Partnership of Sennen saw 11/14mo Limousin x steers to £1,075 and same age British Blue x heifers £1,020. A superb entry of 22 South Devon and Hereford x yearlings for Mr. T.G. Hawke of Colan saw best bunch of four South Devon x steers £1,070 and Hereford steer trio close behind at £1,055, with Hereford x heifers to £910. PEDIGREE DEVON HERD DISPERSAL

Lodge & Thomas were honoured to disperse the “Trewarveneth” herd of Pedigree Devon cattle on behalf of Shaun Stevenson of Shaunboy’s Beef, Newlyn. The herd contained many cows bought-in from top South West breeders and were PD’d to calve through to the summer. Top price at £990 was Ashway Daisy 1st, a 2013-born cow, with the Trewarveneth 2018-born in-calf heifers selling to £800. The Pedigree 4yo stock bull “Meadow Rupert” realised £1,700.
