Yang kou hong ci 。 Fu chui jia bei 。 仰 叩 洪 慈 。 俯 垂 加 被 。
慈悲水懺法卷下 Compassionate Samadhi Water Repentance Service Part Three
請起立。和尚念一句，大眾隨維那念一句。 Please stand up. Assembly repeats each sentence after the Presiding Monk and makes one prostration.
Da ci da bei min zhong sheng 。 Da xi da she 大 慈 大 悲 愍 眾 生 。 大 喜 大 捨
ji han shi 。 濟 含 識 。 Show loving-care for sentient beings with great kindness and compassion; Benefit all sentient beings with great joy and equanimity.
Xiang hao guang ming yi zi yan 。 Zhong deng zhi xin 相 好 光 明 以 自 嚴 。 眾 等 至 心
gui ming li 。 Make a half bow 歸 命 禮 。 問訊 Dignify oneself with magnificient brightness and distinguished marks; We sincerely take refuge and wholeheartedly pay homage.
Yi qie zhu fo 。 Min nian zhong sheng 。 Wei shuo 一 切 諸 佛 。 愍 念 眾 生 。 為 說

shui chan dao chang zong fa 。 Jin dang gui ming 。 水 懺 道 場 總 法 。 今 當 皈 命 。
Yi qie zhu fo 。 一 切 諸 佛 。 All buddhas sympathized with sentient beings and therefore expounded the dharma of water repentance. Now we take refuge in all buddhas.
Yi qie zhu fo 。 Min nian zhong sheng 。 Wei shuo 一 切 諸 佛 。 愍 念 眾 生 。 為 說
shui chan dao chang zong fa 。 Jin dang gui ming 。 水 懺 道 場 總 法 。 今 當 皈 命 。
Yi qie zhu fo 。 Make a half bow 一 切 諸 佛 。 問訊 All buddhas sympathized with sentient beings and therefore expounded the dharma of water repentance. Now we take refuge in all buddhas.
Nan mo pi lu zhe na fo 。 南 無 毘 盧 遮 那 佛 。 We take refuge in Vairocana Buddha.
Nan mo ben shi shi jia mou ni fo （Make one prostration） 南 無 本 師 釋 迦 牟 尼 佛 （頂禮一拜） We take refuge in our orginal teacher Sakyamuni Buddha.
Nan mo a mi tuo fo 。 南 無 阿 彌 陀 佛 。 We take refuge in Amitabha Buddha.
Nan mo mi le fo （Make one prostration） 南 無 彌 勒 佛 （頂禮一拜） We take refuge in Maitreya Buddha.
Nan mo long zhong shang zun wang fo 。 南 無 龍 種 上 尊 王 佛 。

Nan mo bao sheng fo 。 南 無 寶 勝 佛 。 We take refuge in Ratnaketu Buddha.
Nan mo jue hua ding zi zai wang fo （Make one prostration） 南 無 覺 華 定 自 在 王 佛 （頂禮一拜） We take refuge in Flower Enlightenment Buddha.
Nan mo jia sha chuang fo 。 南 無 袈 裟 幢 佛 。 We take refuge in Kasaya Buddha.
Nan mo shi zi hou fo （Make one prostration） 南 無 師 子 吼 佛 （頂禮一拜） We take refuge in Lion’s Roar Buddha.
Nan mo wen shu shi li pu sa 。 南 無 文 殊 師 利 菩 薩 。 We take refuge in Manjusri Bodhisattva.
Nan mo pu xian pu sa （Make one prostration） 南 無 普 賢 菩 薩 （頂禮一拜） We take refuge in Samantabhadra Bodhisattva.
Nan mo da shi zhi pu sa 。 南 無 大 勢 至 菩 薩 。 We take refuge in Mahasthama Bodhisattva.
Nan mo di zang pu sa （Make one prostration） 南 無 地 藏 菩 薩 （頂禮一拜） We take refuge in Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva.

Ci bei shui chan fa juan xia 慈 悲 水 懺 法 卷 下 Part Three Compassionate Samadhi Water Repentance Service
Li zhu fo yi 。 Ci fu chan hui 。 禮 諸 佛 已 。 次 復 懺 悔 。 Afer we have paid homage to the buddhas, we continue to repent.
Shang lai yi chan 。 shen San kou si jing 。 Jin 上 來 已 懺 。 身 三 口 四 竟 。 今
dang chan hui 。 Fo fa seng jian 。 當 懺 悔 。 佛 法 僧 間 。 Since we have repented all karmic offenses from the three types of actions from our body and four types of speech, we will now repent all karmic obstructions related to lack of respect to the Buddha, Dharma and Sangha.
Yi qie zhu zhang 。 Jing zhong fo shuo 。 Ren shen 一 切 諸 障 。 經 中 佛 說 。 人 身
nan de 。 Fo fa nan wen 。 Zhong seng nan zhi 難 得 。 佛 法 難 聞 。 眾 僧 難 值
Xin xin nan sheng 。 Liu gen nan ju 。 Shan you 信 心 難 生 。 六 根 難 具 。 善 友
nan de 。 難 得 。 The Buddha expounded in the sutras that it is very rare to be born as human, to have the chance to hear the 6

Buddha Dharma, to be associated with the Sangha, to have faith in the Triple Gem, to have complete sensory organs, and to encounter good and knowledgeable people.
Er jin xiang yu su zhi shan gen 。 De ci ren 而 今 相 與 宿 植 善 根 。 得 此 人
shen 。 Liu gen wan ju 。 You zhi shan you de 身 。 六 根 完 具 。 又 值 善 友 得
wen zheng fa yu qi zhong jian 。 聞 正 法 於 其 中 間 。 Today, because of the good roots we planted in past lives, we have become human with six complete sensory organs, encountered good and knowledgeable people, and have heard the Right Dharma.
Fu ge bu neng jin xin jing qin 。 Kong yu wei 復 各 不 能 盡 心 精 勤 。 恐 於 未
lai 。 Chang ni wan ku 。 Wu you chu qi 。 來 。 長 溺 萬 苦 。 無 有 出 期 。 If one does not practice vigorously, one may continue to sufer miserably and endlessly within the cycle of birth and death.
Shi gu jin ri zhi cheng 。 Qiu ai chan hui 。 是 故 今 日 至 誠 。 求 哀 懺 悔 。 Therefore, today we sincerely repent.
Zhong deng zi cong wu shi yi lai 。 Zhi yu jin 眾 等 自 從 無 始 以 來 。 至 于 今
ri 。 Chang yi wu ming fu xin 。 Fan nao zhang 日 。 常 以 無 明 覆 心 。 煩 惱 障
yi 。 意 。 Since beginningless time, because our mind has been covered by ignorance and our intentions obstructed by afflictions, we have done the following:
Jian fo xing xiang 。 Bu neng jin xin gong jing 。 見 佛 形 像 。 不 能 盡 心 恭 敬 。

Qing mie zhong seng 。 輕 蔑 眾 僧 。 We did not show our respect sincerely to Buddha statues, disrespect the Sangha assembly.
Can hai shan you 。 Po ta hui si 。 Fen shao 殘 害 善 友 。 破 塔 毀 寺 。 焚 燒
jing xiang 。 Chu fo shen xue 。 經 像 。 出 佛 身 血 。 We harmed our good and knowledgeable friends. We destroyed Buddhist temples and stupas. We burned Buddhist sutras and statues. We harmed the Buddha’s body.
Huo zi chu hua tang 。 An zhi zun xiang bei wei 或 自 處 華 堂 。 安 置 尊 像 卑 猥
zhi chu 。 Shi yan xun ri pu 。 Feng chui yu 之 處 。 使 煙 熏 日 曝 。 風 吹 雨
lu 。 Chen tu wu ben 。 Que shu hui huai 。 露 。 塵 土 汙 坌 。 雀 鼠 毀 壞 。
Gong zhu tong su 。 共 住 同 宿 。 We carelessly placed Buddha statues that it was exposed to sun, wind, rain, dust, allowing them to be destroyed by birds and mice which live within the statues.
Ceng wu li jing 。 Huo luo lu xiang qian 。 曾 無 禮 敬 。 或 裸 露 像 前 。 We did not show respect or dressed indecently in front of the Buddha statues.
Chu bu yan shi zhe yan deng zhu 。 Guan bi dian 初 不 嚴 飾 遮 掩 燈 燭 。 關 閉 殿
yu 。 Zhang fo guang ming 。 宇 。 障 佛 光 明 。 We did not decorate the shrine or provide appropriate lighting and closed off the temple, blocking off light for the Buddha.

Ru shi deng zui 。 Jin ri zhi cheng 。 Jie xi 如 是 等 罪 。 今 日 至 誠 。 皆 悉
chan hui 。 懺 悔 。 We now repent sincerely for all the actions above.
You fu wu shi yi lai 。 Zhi yu jin ri 。 又 復 無 始 以 來 。 至 于 今 日 。
Huo yu fa jian yi bu jing shou 。 Ba zhuo jing 或 於 法 間 以 不 淨 手 。 把 捉 經
juan 。 Huo lin jing shu 。 Fei fa su yu 。 卷 。 或 臨 經 書 。 非 法 俗 語 。 Again, since beginningless time, we have done the following to the Dharma: we handled sutra scriptures with dirty hands, and while reading the sutras, we made improper comments and meaningless speech.
Huo an zhi chuang tou 。 Zuo qi bu jing 。 Huo 或 安 置 牀 頭 。 坐 起 不 敬 。 或
kai bi xiang qie 。 Chong du xiu lan 。 Huo shou 開 閉 箱 篋 。 蟲 蠧 朽 爛 。 或 首
zhou tuo luo 。 Bu zhi shi ci 。 Huo wan tuo 軸 脫 落 。 部 帙 失 次 。 或 挽 脫
lou wu 。 Zhi mo po lie 。 漏 悞 。 紙 墨 破 裂 。 We were disrespectful leaving the sutras in our beds. We left the sutras in sealed boxes allowing them to be chewed up by bugs resulting in loose, torn, and mis-ordered pages.
Zi bu xiu xi 。 Bu ken liu chuan 。 自 不 修 習 。 不 肯 流 傳 。 We did not study and practice ourselves and withheld the distribution of sutras for others.

Ru shi deng zui 。 Jin ri zhi cheng 。 Jie xi 如 是 等 罪 。 今 日 至 誠 。 皆 悉
chan hui 。 懺 悔 。 We now repent sincerely for all the above actions.
Huo mian di ting jing 。 Yang wo du song 。 或 眠 地 聽 經 。 仰 臥 讀 誦 。 We lay on the floor listening to the sutras or reciting them.
Gao sheng yu xiao 。 Luan ta ting fa 。 高 聲 語 笑 。 亂 他 聽 法 。 We talked and laughed loudly while others were listening to the Dharma.
Huo xie jie fo yu 。 Pi shuo sheng yi 。 或 邪 解 佛 語 。 僻 說 聖 意 。 We distorted and misinterpreted the Buddha’s sacred teachings.
Fei fa shuo fa 。 Fa shuo fei fa 。 非 法 說 法 。 法 說 非 法 。 We say non-Buddhist teachings as the Dharma and the Dharma as non-Buddhist.
Fei fan shuo fan 。 Fan shuo fei fan 。 Qing zui 非 犯 說 犯 。 犯 說 非 犯 。 輕 罪
shuo zhong 。 Zhong zui shuo qing 。 說 重 。 重 罪 說 輕 。 We told others that non-offenses were offenses and real offenses as non-offenses, or light offenses are major, and major offenses as light.
Huo chao qian zhuo hou 。 Chao hou zhuo qian 。 Qian 或 抄 前 著 後 。 抄 後 著 前 。 前
hou zhuo zhong 。 Zhong zhuo qian hou 。 後 著 中 。 中 著 前 後 。 We intentionally rearranged the order of the sutra section, mixing secions in the front and middle with the back or rephrased the text while copying the sutra. 10

Qi shi wen ci 。 An zhi ji dian 。 Huo wei 綺 飾 文 詞 。 安 置 己 典 。 或 為
li yang ming yu gong jing 。 Wei ren shuo fa 。 利 養 名 譽 恭 敬 。 為 人 說 法 。
Wu dao de xin 。 Qiu fa shi guo 。 無 道 德 心 。 求 法 師 過 。 We changed the wording and put in our own writing, or unethically taught the Dharma to others with the purpose of obtaining offerings, status, and respect.
Er wei lun yi 。 Fei li tan ji 。 而 為 論 義 。 非 理 彈 擊 。 While seeking the Dharma, we argued and debated using nonsense theories with our teachers.
Bu wei chang jie 。 Qiu chu shi fa 。 不 為 長 解 。 求 出 世 法 。 While seeking for the supra-mundane Dharma, we did not seek for thorough understanding.
Huo qing man fo yu 。 Zun zhong xie jiao 。 或 輕 慢 佛 語 。 尊 重 邪 教 。 We had arrogant attitude toward Buddha’s teachings. We respected non-Buddhist teachings.
Hui zi da sheng 。 Zan sheng wen dao 。 毀 呰 大 乘 。 讚 聲 聞 道 。 We slandered the Large Vehicle (to achieve enlightenment) and praised the way of the Sarvaka.
Ru shi deng zui 。 Wu liang wu bian 。 Jie xi 如 是 等 罪 。 無 量 無 邊 。 皆 悉
chan hui 。 懺 悔 。 We now repent sincerely for the countless actions above.
You fu wu shi yi lai 。 Zhi yu jin ri 。 又 復 無 始 以 來 。 至 于 今 日 。

Huo yu seng jian you zhang 。 或 於 僧 間 有 障 。 Next, since beginningless time, we have done the following related to the Sangha:
Sha a luo han 。 殺 阿 羅 漢 。 We harmed or killed Arahats.
Po he he seng 。 破 和 合 僧 。 We caused discord among members of the Sangha assembly.
Hai fa wu shang pu ti xin ren 。 Duan mie fo 害 發 無 上 菩 提 心 人 。 斷 滅 佛
zhong 。 Shi sheng dao bu xing 。 種 。 使 聖 道 不 行 。 We hurt those with bohdhi resolve, preventing them from becoming enlightened, and we obstructed the propagation of the Buddha Dharma.
Huo bo tuo dao ren 。 Bian kao sha men 。 Chu 或 剝 脫 道 人 。 鞭 拷 沙 門 。 楚
ta qu shi 。 Ku yan jia bang 。 撻 驅 使 。 苦 言 加 謗 。 We harmed practitioners and tortured monastics physically and slandered them with deceitful language.
Huo po jing jie 。 Ji po wei yi 。 或 破 淨 戒 。 及 破 威 儀 。 We caused them to violate their precepts and ruined their dignifying manners.
Huo quan ta ren 。 She yu ba zheng 。 Shou xing 或 勸 他 人 。 捨 於 八 正 。 受 行
wu fa 。 五 法 。 We convinced them to abandon the Noble Eightfold Path and the cultivation the Five Dharmas.

Huo jia tuo xing yi 。 Kui qie chang zhu 。 或 假 託 形 儀 。 闚 竊 常 住 。 We stole from the temple with false claims.
Ru shi deng zui 。 Jin xi chan hui 。 如 是 等 罪 。 今 悉 懺 悔 。 We now repent sincerely for the actions above.
Huo luo lu shen xing 。 Qing yi tang tu 。 Zai 或 裸 露 身 形 。 輕 衣 唐 突 。 在
jing xiang qian 。 經 像 前 。 We exposed our bodies or dressed indecently in the presence of sutras and Buddha statues.
Bu jing jiao lu 。 Ta shang dian ta 。 Huo zhuo 不 淨 腳 履 。 踏 上 殿 塔 。 或 著
xie ji 。 Ru seng qie lan 。 屧 屐 。 入 僧 伽 藍 。 We disrespectfully walked into the premises of the Buddhist temples wearing dirty shoes or sandals.
Ti tuo tang fang 。 Wu fo seng di 。 涕 唾 堂 房 。 汙 佛 僧 地 。 We spit on temple floors and defiled the sangha ground.
Cheng che ce ma 。 Pai tu si she 。 乘 車 策 馬 。 排 揬 寺 舍 。 We drove vehicles or carriages into the temple and disturbed its peace.
Fan ru shi deng 。 Yu san bao jian 。 Suo qi 凡 如 是 等 。 於 三 寶 間 。 所 起
zui zhang 。 Wu liang wu bian 。 罪 障 。 無 量 無 邊 。 We now repent sincerely for all the countless karmic obstructions to the Triple Gem.

Jin ri zhi cheng xiang shi fang fo 。 Zun fa sheng 今 日 至 誠 向 十 方 佛 。 尊 法 聖
zhong 。 Jie xi chan hui 。 眾 。 皆 悉 懺 悔 。 We now repent to all Buddhas in the ten directions and all the honorable sages.
Yuan sheng sheng shi shi 。 Chang zhi san bao 。 Zun 願 生 生 世 世 。 常 值 三 寶 。 尊
yang gong jing 。 仰 恭 敬 。 We resolve to always support, protect, and respect the Three Gem in this life and future lives.
Wu you yan juan 。 Tian zeng miao cai 。 Zhong bao 無 有 厭 倦 。 天 繒 妙 綵 。 眾 寶
ying luo 。 Bai qian ji yue 。 Zhen yi ming xiang 纓 絡 。 百 千 伎 樂 。 珎 異 名 香
Hua guo xian ming 。 Jin shi suo you 。 Chang yi 花 果 鮮 明 。 盡 世 所 有 。 常 以
gong yang 。 供 養 。 We will always make offerings with the most precious pennants, banners, precious canopies, music, incense, flowers, and fruits that are available in this world.
Ruo you cheng fo 。 Xian wang quan qing 。 Kai gan 若 有 成 佛 。 先 往 勸 請 。 開 甘
lu men 。 露 門 。 If someone attained Buddhahood, we request him to open the door of sweet dew.
Ruo ru nie pan 。 Yuan wo chang de 。 Xian zui 若 入 涅 槃 。 願 我 常 得 。 獻 最

hou gong 。 Yu zhong seng zhong 。 後 供 。 於 眾 僧 中 。 If someone were to enter nirvana, we wish we can make the final offering. We practice harmony among Sangha assembly and attain the power of ease.
Xiu liu he jing 。 De zi zai li 。 Xing long 脩 六 和 敬 。 得 自 在 力 。 興 隆
san bao 。 Shang hong fo dao 。 Xia hua zhong sheng 三 寶 。 上 弘 佛 道 。 下 化 眾 生 We will support and propagate the Three Gem. We will spread the Buddha Dharma and help to liberate all living beings.
Ru shang suo shuo 。 Yu san bao jian 。 如 上 所 說 。 於 三 寶 間 。 The actions stated above are related to the Triple Gem.
Qing zhong zhu zui 。 Jie yi chan hui 。 輕 重 諸 罪 。 皆 已 懺 悔 。 We repent for all minor and major transgressions.
Qi yu zhu e 。 Jin dang ci di fu geng chan 其 餘 諸 惡 。 今 當 次 第 復 更 懺
hui 。 悔 。 We now also repent any other transgressions.
Ru jing zhong shuo 。 You er jian er 。 如 經 中 說 。 有 二 徤 兒 。 As the sutras say, there are two types of people:
Yi zhe zi bu zuo zui 。 Er zhe zuo yi neng 一 者 自 不 作 罪 。 二 者 作 已 能
hui 。 悔 。 The one who does not offend and the one who offended and repented. 15

You you er zhong bai fa 。 Neng wei zhong sheng mie 又 有 二 種 白 法 。 能 為 眾 生 滅
chu zhong zhang 。 Yi zhe can 。 Zi bu zuo e 除 眾 障 。 一 者 慚 。 自 不 作 惡 The sutras also say that there are two types of dharmas that help living beings in eradicating all offenses: One, to be shameful and not commit any bad actions;
Er zhe kui 。 Bu ling ta zuo 。 二 者 愧 。 不 令 他 作 。 Two, to feel remorseful and not let others commit any bad actions.
You can kui zhe 。 Ke ming wei ren 。 有 慚 愧 者 。 可 名 為 人 。 One can be considered a human if one feels ashamed and remorseful of one’s bad actions.
Ruo bu can kui 。 Yu zhu qin shou bu xiang yi 若 不 慚 愧 。 與 諸 禽 獸 不 相 異
ye 。 也 。 Otherwise, we are no different from animals.
Shi gu jin ri zhi cheng 。 Gui yi yu fo 。 是 故 今 日 至 誠 。 皈 依 於 佛 。
Ru fa chan hui 。 如 法 懺 悔 。 Today we sincerely take refuge in the Buddha and repent according to the Dharma.
Wu shi yi lai 。 Zhi yu jin ri 。 無 始 以 來 。 至 于 今 日 。 We repent for the such transgressions accumulated since beginningless time.
Huo xin xie dao jian 。 Sha hai zhong sheng 。 或 信 邪 倒 見 。 殺 害 眾 生 。 We believed in deviant and upside down views. We killed and harmed sentient beings. 16

Jie zou chi mei wang liang gui shen 。 Yu xi yan 解 奏 魑 魅 魍 魎 鬼 神 。 欲 希 延
nian 。 Zhong bu neng de 。 年 。 終 不 能 得 。 We made offerings to various spirits and ghosts, praying for longer lives without success.
Huo wang yan jian gui 。 Jia cheng shen yu 。 或 妄 言 見 鬼 。 假 稱 神 語 。 We lied about seeing ghosts and being messengers of spirits
Ru shi deng zui 。 Jie xi chan hui 。 You fu 如 是 等 罪 。 皆 悉 懺 悔 。 又 復
wu shi yi lai 。 Zhi yu jin ri 。 無 始 以 來 。 至 于 今 日 。 We repent for the such transgressions accumulated since beginningless time.
Huo xing dong ao dan 。 Zi gao zi da 。 Huo 或 行 動 傲 誕 。 自 高 自 大 。 或
shi zhong xing 。 Qing man yi qie 。 Yi gui qing 恃 種 姓 。 輕 慢 一 切 。 以 貴 輕
jian 。 Yong qiang ling ruo 。 賤 。 用 強 陵 弱 。 We acted arrogantly and discriminated people of lower classes, looking down at all. We showed contempt to others and took advantage of the weak by force.
Huo yin jiu dou luan 。 Bu bi qin shu 。 Hun 或 飲 酒 鬪 亂 。 不 避 親 疎 。 惽
zui zhong ri 。 Bu shi zun bei 。 醉 終 日 。 不 識 尊 卑 。 We intoxicated ourselves and fought with others, not being able to differentiate our superiors from subordinates or our relatives from strangers.

Huo shi yin shi 。 Wu you qi du 。 或 嗜 飲 食 。 無 有 期 度 。 We indulged in food without control.
Huo shi sheng kuai 。 Huo dan wu xin 。 Xun hui 或 食 生 鱠 。 或 噉 五 辛 。 薰 穢
jing xiang 。 經 像 。 We ate raw minced fish and pungent vegetables, fumigating and descrating sutras and Buddhas statues.
Pai tu jing zhong 。 Zong xin zi yi 。 Bu zhi 排 揬 淨 眾 。 緃 心 恣 意 。 不 知
xian ji 。 限 極 。 We offended the members of the Sangha. We indulged in our desires and followed our emotions with no control.
Shu yuan shan ren 。 Xia jin e you 。 疎 遠 善 人 。 狎 近 惡 友 。 We stayed away from the benevolent ones and associated ourselves with friends of bad influence.
Ru shi deng zui 。 Jin xi chan hui 。 如 是 等 罪 。 今 悉 懺 悔 。 We repent for such transgressions accumulated since beginningless time.
Huo gong gao jiao jia 。 Yan jian zi yong 。 Ba 或 貢 高 矯 假 。 偃 蹇 自 用 。 跋
hu zhi tu 。 Bu shi ren qing 。 Zi shi fei 扈 扺 揬 。 不 識 人 情 。 自 是 非

ta 。 Xi wang jiao xing 。 他 。 希 望 僥 倖 。 We were arrogant and conceited. We did not appreciate other’s help. We considered ourselves always right and others being wrong. We seek for success through good luck.
Ru shi deng zui 。 Jin xi chan hui 。 如 是 等 罪 。 今 悉 懺 悔 。 We repent for such transgressions accumulated since beginningless time.
Huo lin cai wu rang 。 Bu lian bu chi 。 或 臨 財 無 讓 。 不 廉 不 恥 。 We did not share our fortune with others. We were shameless and without romorse.
Tu rou gu jiu 。 Qi kuang zi huo 。 屠 肉 沽 酒 。 欺 誑 自 活 。 We slaughter for meat and sold liquor. We cheated others for our own benefit.
Huo chu ru xi li 。 Ji shi mai ri 。 Ju 或 出 入 息 利 。 計 時 賣 日 。 聚
ji qian ke 。 Tan qiu wu yan 。 積 慳 尅 。 貪 求 無 厭 。 We loaned money for high interest. We were extremely stingy while making fortune for ourselves. We were greedy with endless cravings.
Shou ren gong yang 。 Bu can Bu kui 。 Huo wu 受 人 供 養 。 不 慚 不 愧 。 或 無
jie de 。 Kong na xin shi 。 戒 德 。 空 納 信 施 。 We shamelessly accepted offering, lacking any virtues in upholding precepts.
Ru shi deng zui 。 Jin xi chan hui 。 如 是 等 罪 。 今 悉 懺 悔 。 We repent for the such transgressions accumulated since beginningless time.
Huo chui da nu bi 。 Qu shi tong li 。 Bu 或 捶 打 奴 婢 。 驅 使 僮 吏 。 不

Huo fang yi zi zi 。 Wu ji san luan 。 Shu 或 放 逸 自 恣 。 無 記 散 亂 。 樗

Geng xiang rao jian 。 Wu qu tan hua 。 Lun shuo 更 相 擾 餞 。 無 趣 談 話 。 論 說
tian xia 。 Cong nian jing sui 。 Kong sang tian ri 天 下 。 從 年 竟 歲 。 空 喪 天 日
Chu zhong hou ye 。 Chan song bu xiu 。 初 中 後 夜 。 禪 誦 不 脩 。 We wasted our lives in playing games, holding parties for drinking liquor and eating meat. We engaged in meaningless conversations, discussing worldly matters. We carried on year after year, wasting time day and night, never practicing meditation or reciting the sutras.
Xie dai lan duo 。 Shi wo zhong ri 。 Yu liu 懈 怠 懶 惰 。 尸 臥 終 日 。 於 六
nian chu 。 Xin bu jing li 。 念 處 。 心 不 經 理 。 We were lazy, sleeping most of the time. We did not spend any effort on the Six Contemplations.

Wu you xiu xi 。 無 有 休 息 。 We were jealous of other people’s success or fortune. We were mean and malicious, with our minds full of afflictions. They are like the strong winds blowing the fires of offenses which never cease, destroying the very little good deeds that we have accumulated. Without any good deeds, one can not hope to become enlightened and will only be reborn in the realm of the hells with endless suffering.
San ye wei shan 。 Yi qie ju fen 。 Shan fa 三 業 微 善 。 一 切 俱 焚 。 善 法
ji jin 。 Wei yi chan ti 。 Duo da di yu 既 盡 。 為 一 闡 提 。 墮 大 地 獄

shi li bi po ling zuo 。 勢 力 逼 迫 令 作 。 Therefore, today, we pray sincerely to the Triple Gem in the ten directions and repent for all offenses: minor or major; those we committed ourselves or the ones we helped other to commit; those we reacted with delight upon witnessing; those we forced others to commit; and even those that we praised upon witnessing.
Ru shi nai zhi zan tan xing e fa zhe 。 Jin 如 是 乃 至 讚 歎 行 惡 法 者 。 今
ri zhi cheng 。 Jie xi chan hui 。 Yuan cheng shi 日 至 誠 。 皆 悉 懺 悔 。 願 承 是
chan hui 。 懺 悔 。 We hope to receive the merits from repenting these offenses.
Yi qie zhu e 。 Suo sheng gong de 。 Sheng sheng 一 切 諸 惡 。 所 生 功 德 。 生 生
shi shi 。 Ci he zhong xiao 。 Qian bei ren ru 世 世 。 慈 和 忠 孝 。 謙 卑 忍 辱
Zhi lian shi chi 。 Xian yi wen xun 。 Xiu liang 知 廉 識 耻 。 先 意 問 訊 。 脩 良
zheng jin 。 Qing jie yi rang 。 Yuan li e you 正 謹 。 清 潔 義 讓 。 遠 離 惡 友
Chang yu shan yuan 。 常 遇 善 緣 。 We hope that we will be kind, nice, loyal, filial, humble, patient, tolerant, shameful and remorseful. We will behave properly. We will stay away from evil friends and hope to make good conditions. Shou she liu qing 。 Shou hu san ye 。 收 攝 六 情 。 守 護 三 業 。
We will control our six senses and guard the three karmas.

Han lao ren ku 。 Xin bu tui mo 。 Li pu 捍 勞 忍 苦 。 心 不 退 沒 。 立 菩
ti zhi 。 Bu fu zhong sheng 。 Fa yuan yi gui 提 志 。 不 負 眾 生 。 發 願 已 皈
ming li zhu fo 。 (Please stand up) 命 禮 諸 佛 。 (請起立) We will do the above with diligence, patience, and vigor without any thought of retrogression. We will bring forth boddhi resolve. We will live up to the expectations of living beings. After making such resolutions, we will now pay homage to all the buddhas.
Nan mo pi lu zhe na fo 。 南 無 毘 盧 遮 那 佛 。 We take refuge in Vairocana Buddha. Nan mo ben shi shi jia mou ni fo （Make one prostration） 南 無 本 師 釋 迦 牟 尼 佛 （頂禮一拜） We take refuge in our orginal teacher Sakyamuni Buddha.
Nan mo a mi tuo fo 。 南 無 阿 彌 陀 佛 。 We take refuge in Amitabha Buddha.
Nan mo mi le fo （Make one prostration） 南 無 彌 勒 佛 （頂禮一拜） We take refuge in Maitreya Buddha.
Nan mo long zhong shang zun wang fo 。 南 無 龍 種 上 尊 王 佛 。 We take refuge in Honorable Dragon Kings Buddha.

Nan mo da zhuang yan pu sa 。 南 無 大 莊 嚴 菩 薩 。 We take refuge in Great Adornment Bodhisattva.

Li zhu fo yi 。 Ci fu chan hui 。 禮 諸 佛 已 。 次 復 懺 悔 。 After we have paid homage to the buddhas, we will continue to repent. 24

Xiang lai yi chan hui fan nao zhang 。 Yi chan hui 向 來 已 懺 悔 煩 惱 障 。 已 懺 悔
ye zhang 。 Suo yu bao zhang 。 Jin dang ci di 業 障 。 所 餘 報 障 。 今 當 次 第
Pi chen chan hui 。 披 陳 懺 悔 。 We have repented the various obstructions resulted from afflictions and karmic actions, we will now repent, one by one, the remaining obstructions resulted from retributions.
Jing zhong shuo yan 。 Ye bao zhi shi 。 Fei kong 經 中 說 言 。 業 報 至 時 。 非 空
fei hai zhong 。 Fei ru shan shi jian 。 Wu you 非 海 中 。 非 入 山 市 間 。 無 有
di fang suo 。 Tuo zhi bu shou bao 。 地 方 所 。 脫 之 不 受 報 。 The sutras say that when karmic retribution arrives, there is no place in the sky, the sea, the mountains, or within a city that a person can hide and escape the retribution they deserve.
Wei you chan hui li 。 Nai neng de chu mie 。 惟 有 懺 悔 力 。 乃 能 得 除 滅 。
He yi zhi ran 。 何 以 知 然 。 One can only eradicate it by the power of repentance. How does one know it is true?
Shi ti huan yin 。 Wu shuai xiang xian 。 Kong ju 釋 提 桓 因 。 五 衰 相 現 。 恐 懼
qie xin 。 切 心 。 When King Sakra was approaching the end of his life in heaven, he was terrified when his body displayed five signs of degeneration.

Gui cheng san bao 。 Wu xiang ji mie 。 De yan 歸 誠 三 寶 。 五 相 即 滅 。 得 延
tian nian 。 天 年 。 After he sincerely took refuge in the Triple Gem, the five signs of degeneration disappeared and his life in the heaven was prolonged.
Ru shi deng bi 。 Jing jiao suo ming 。 Qi shi 如 是 等 比 。 經 教 所 明 。 其 事
fei yi 。 Gu zhi chan hui 。 Shi neng mie huo 非 一 。 故 知 懺 悔 。 實 能 滅 禍 There are many recordings such as this that can be found in many sutras from which we know that retributions can truly be eradicated only through repentance.
Dan fan fu zhi ren 。 Ruo bu zhi shan you jiang 但 凡 夫 之 人 。 若 不 值 善 友 奬
dao 。 Ze mi e er bu zao 。 Zhi shi da 導 。 則 靡 惡 而 不 造 。 致 使 大
ming jiang jin 。 Lin qiong zhi ji 。 Di yu e 命 將 盡 。 臨 窮 之 際 。 地 獄 惡
xiang 。 Jie xian zai qian 。 相 。 皆 現 在 前 。 However, if many ordinary people have not had the opportunity to encountering benevolent friends that advised them as such, then their evil offenses will continue such that when their life ends they will see the images of hells.
Dang er zhi shi 。 Hui ju jiao zhi 。 Bu yu 當 爾 之 時 。 悔 懼 交 至 。 不 預
xiu shan 。 Lin qiong fang hui 。 Hui zhi yu hou 脩 善 。 臨 窮 方 悔 。 悔 之 於 後 At that time, it is too late to regret for what they had done and to be fearful of consequences. Without practicing good deeds, regretting in facing death is futile. 26
Compassion Samadhi Water Repentance 慈悲三昧水懺科儀
Jiang he ji hu 。 Yang fu yi chu 。 Su yu 將 何 及 乎 。 殃 福 異 處 。 宿 預
yan dai 。 Dang du qu ru 。 Dao di yu suo 嚴 待 。 當 獨 趣 入 。 到 地 獄 所
Dan de qian xing 。 但 得 前 行 。 The retributions will surely arrive as one enters hell and can only go forward.
Ru yu huo huo 。 Shen xin cui sui 。 Jing shen 入 於 火 鑊 。 身 心 摧 碎 。 精 神
tong ku 。 痛 苦 。 One’s body and mind will be burned and destroyed.
Ru ci zhi shi 。 Yu qiu yi li yi chan 。 如 此 之 時 。 欲 求 一 禮 一 懺 。
Qi ke fu de 。 豈 可 復 得 。 At such time, one cannot pay homage to the Buddha and repent even if one wishes to.
Zhong deng qie mo zi shi sheng nian 。 Cai bao shi 眾 等 切 莫 自 恃 盛 年 。 財 寶 勢
li 。 Lan duo xie dai 。 Fang yi zi zi 。 力 。 懶 惰 懈 怠 。 放 逸 自 恣 。 So one should never rely on one’s youth, fortune, and high status and put off cultivation to indulge oneself in desire.
Si ku yi zhi 。 Wu wen lao shao 。 Pin fu 死 苦 一 至 。 無 問 老 少 。 貧 富
gui jian 。 Jie xi mo mie 。 Yan hu er zhi 貴 賤 。 皆 悉 磨 滅 。 奄 忽 而 至

Bu ling ren zhi 。 不 令 人 知 。 When the time of death arrives, regardless of old or young, rich or poor, wether one has high status or the lowest status, no on would know ahead of time.
Fu ren ming wu chang 。 Yu ru zhao lu 。 Chu 夫 人 命 無 常 。 喻 如 朝 露 。 出
xi sui cun 。 Ru xi nan bao 。 息 雖 存 。 入 息 難 保 。 Life is as impermanent as the morning dew. As one exhales, there is no guarantee if one can inhale again or not.
Yun he hu ci 。 Er bu chan hui 。 云 何 忽 此 。 而 不 懺 悔 。 How can one not repent now?
Dan wu tian shi zhe ji lai 。 Wu chang sha gui 但 五 天 使 者 既 來 。 無 常 殺 鬼
cu zhi 。 Sheng nian zhuang se wu de mian zhe 。 卒 至 。 盛 年 壯 色 無 得 免 者 。 When the messengers from the five heavens or the jailers of the hell arrive, one cannot refuse to go even when one is still in his prime years and healthy.
Dang er zhi shi 。 Hua tang sui yu 。 He guan 當 爾 之 時 。 華 堂 邃 宇 。 何 關
ren shi 。 Gao ju da ma 。 Qi de zi sui 人 事 。 高 車 大 馬 。 豈 得 自 隨 At that time, one’s extravagant houses, high carriages, and large horses will not be able to help and follow.
Qi zi juan shu 。 Fei fu wo qin 。 Qi zhen 妻 子 眷 屬 。 非 復 我 親 。 七 珎
bao shi 。 Nai wei ta wan 。 寶 飾 。 乃 為 他 玩 。 One’s spouse and family members are no longer related to one. One’s treasures will become the belongings of another. 28

Yi ci er yan 。 Shi jian guo bao 。 Jie wei 以 此 而 言 。 世 間 果 報 。 皆 為
huan hua 。 幻 化 。 As such, we know that all worldly rewards are illusive.
Tian shang sui le 。 Hui gui bai huai 。 天 上 雖 樂 。 會 歸 敗 壞 。 The joys in heaven are wonderful, but will certainly degenerate.
Shou jin hun shi duo luo san tu 。 壽 盡 魂 逝 墮 落 三 塗 。 When life ends, one’s consciousness will fall into the three suffering realms.
Shi gu fo yu xu ba tuo yan 。 Ru shi yu 是 故 佛 語 須 跋 陀 言 。 汝 師 鬱
tou lan fo 。 Li gen cong ming 。 Neng fu fan 頭 藍 弗 。 利 根 聰 明 。 能 伏 煩
nao 。 Zhi yu fei fei xiang chu 。 Ming zhong huan 惱 。 至 於 非 非 想 處 。 命 終 還
zuo chu sheng dao zhong 。 Fei li zhi shen 。 Kuang 作 畜 生 道 中 。 飛 狸 之 身 。 况
fu yu zhe 。 復 餘 者 。 The Buddha said to Subadhra, “Your teacher Udraka Rhamaputra was extremely intelligent and was able to overcome afflictions and reach the ‘Realm of No Nonperception.’ After his life ended, he still fell into the realms of animals and become a fox, not to mention others.”
Gu zhi wei deng sheng guo yi huan 。 Jie ying lun 故 知 未 登 聖 果 已 還 。 皆 應 輪

zhuan 。 Bei jing e qu 。 轉 。 備 經 惡 趣 。 Therefore, before one attains the sagely fruit, one will always be in the cycle of birth and death and may go through the suffering realms.
Ru bu jin shen 。 Hu er yi zhao 。 Qin ying 如 不 謹 慎 。 忽 爾 一 朝 。 親 嬰
si shi 。 Jiang bu hui zai 。 Ru jin bei zui 斯 事 。 將 不 悔 哉 。 如 今 被 罪
Xing yi gong men 。 Yi shi xiao ku 。 Qing di 行 詣 公 門 。 已 是 小 苦 。 情 地
zhang huang 。 Juan shu kong ju 。 Qiu jiu bai duan 慞 惶 。 眷 屬 恐 懼 。 求 救 百 端 If we are not cautious, we may face such calamities one day, we would certainly regret then. Sometimes in one’s life, one might have been arrested and prosecuted for a crime. Although it may only be for a small crime but one would be very worried, and one’s family would be fearful for any bad consequences and would try all possible ways for one’s release.
Di yu zhong ku 。 Bi yu ci zhe 。 Bai qian 地 獄 眾 苦 。 比 於 此 者 。 百 千
wan bei bu de wei yu 。 萬 倍 不 得 為 喻 。 The various sufferings in hells are much worse in thousands of times by comparison.
Zhong deng xiang yu chen jie yi lai 。 Zui ruo xu 眾 等 相 與 塵 劫 以 來 。 罪 若 須
mi 。 彌 。 Having lived for countless lives, our karmic offenses must be as high as Mount Sumeru.
Yun he wen ci 。 An ran bu wei 。 Bu jing 云 何 聞 此 。 安 然 不 畏 。 不 驚

bu kong 。 Ling ci jing shen 。 Fu ying si ku 不 恐 。 令 此 精 神 。 復 嬰 斯 苦
Shi wei ke tong 。 實 為 可 痛 。 On listening to this, how can we feel at ease and are not terrified and worried (about the retributions) and allow our consciousness to go through such sufferings?
Shi gu zhi cheng 。 Qiu ai chan hui 。 Zhong deng 是 故 至 誠 。 求 哀 懺 悔 。 眾 等
cong wu shi yi lai 。 Zhi yu jin ri 。 Suo 從 無 始 以 來 。 至 于 今 日 。 所
you bao zhang 。 有 報 障 。 Therefore, we sincerely regret and repent for all obstructions of retribution resulting from countless past lives.
Ran qi zhong zhe 。 Di yi wei you a bi di 然 其 重 者 。 第 一 惟 有 阿 鼻 地
yu 。 Ru jing suo ming 。 獄 。 如 經 所 明 。 The worst of the retributions is the hell of Avici, which has been described in the sutras.
Jin dang lue shuo qi xiang 。 今 當 略 說 其 相 。 Today, we will briefly describe it.
Ci yu zhou za 。 You qi zhong tie cheng 。 Fu 此 獄 周 匝 。 有 七 重 鐵 城 。 復
you qi zhong tie wang 。 Luo fu qi shang 。 Xia 有 七 重 鐵 網 。 羅 覆 其 上 。 下
you qi zhong tie dao wei lin 。 Wu liang meng huo 有 七 重 鐵 刀 為 林 。 無 量 猛 火 31

Zong guang ba wan si qian you xun 。 緃 廣 八 萬 四 千 由 旬 。 This hell is bounded by seven iron walls and seven layers of woven nests over the to there are seven layers of knives as thick as the forest underneath it and there are endless fiercely burning fire in all directions over infinite miles.
Zui ren zhi shen 。 Bian man qi zhong 。 Zui ye 罪 人 之 身 。 徧 滿 其 中 。 罪 業
yin yuan 。 Bu xiang fang ai 。 因 緣 。 不 相 妨 礙 。 It is filled with the bodies of the sufferers, though each has different karma and conditions that brought them there.
Shang huo che xia 。 Xia huo che shang 。 Dong xi 上 火 徹 下 。 下 火 徹 上 。 東 西
nan bei 。 南 北 。 The fires burning above closed in with the fires burning underneath, and fires from one direction connected with that of the other directions.
Tong che jiao guo 。 Ru yu zai ao 。 Zhi gao 通 徹 交 過 。 如 魚 在 鏊 。 脂 膏
jie jin 。 Ci zhong zui ku 。 Yi fu ru shi 皆 盡 。 此 中 罪 苦 。 亦 復 如 是 All bodies are burned like fish frying in the cooker until its fat is burned up completely. The suffering in this hell is just like that.
Qi cheng si men 。 You si da tong gou 。 Qi 其 城 四 門 。 有 四 大 銅 狗 。 其
shen zong guang 。 Si qian you xun 。 Ya zhao feng 身 緃 廣 。 四 千 由 旬 。 牙 爪 鋒

This city of hell has four walls and guarded by four huge bronze dogs. The body of these dogs are as big as four thousand jojanas, their teeth and craws are very sharp and long and their eyes shine like lightning.
Fu you wu liang tie zui zhu niao 。 Fen yi fei 復 有 無 量 鐵 觜 諸 鳥 。 奮 翼 飛
teng 。 Dan zui ren rou 。 騰 。 噉 罪 人 肉 。 There are also countless birds with iron beaks, flying swiftly to peck the flesh off the sufferers in this hell.
Niu tou yu zu 。 Xing ru luo cha 。 牛 頭 獄 卒 。 形 如 羅 刹 。 The hell guards have the head of bulls with the look of Raksasas.
Er you jiu wei 。 Wei ru tie cha 。 Fu you 而 有 九 尾 。 尾 如 鐵 叉 。 復 有
jiu tou 。 Tou shang shi ba jiao 。 九 頭 。 頭 上 十 八 角 。 They have nine tails, which is like the iron forks. They also have nine heads with eighteen horns.
Jiao you liu shi si yan 。 Yi yi yan zhong 。 角 有 六 十 四 眼 。 一 一 眼 中 。
Jie xi beng chu 。 Zhu ri tie wan 。 Shao zui 皆 悉 迸 出 。 諸 熱 鐵 丸 。 燒 罪
ren rou 。 人 肉 。 The horns have sixty four eyes and each eye emitting many burning iron balls which burn the body the beings in this hell.
Ran qi yi chen yi nu 。 Xiao hou zhi shi 。 然 其 一 嗔 一 怒 。 哮 吼 之 時 。
Sheng ru pi li 。 聲 如 霹 靂 。 When the guards are angry, their howling is like the sound of thunder.

Fu you wu liang wu bian dao lun 。 Kong zhong er 復 有 無 量 無 邊 刀 輪 。 空 中 而
xia 。 Cong zui ren ding ru 。 Cong zu er chu 下 。 從 罪 人 頂 入 。 從 足 而 出 There are also countless turning wheels of knives that come down from the sky entering the head of the head sufferers and exiting from their feet.
Yu shi zui ren 。 Tong che gu sui 。 Ku qie 於 是 罪 人 。 痛 徹 骨 髓 。 苦 切
gan xin 。 肝 心 。 The pain of the sufferers is deeply felt in their bones, like their internal organs are being cut.
Ru shi jing wu shu sui 。 Qiu sheng bu de 。 如 是 經 無 數 歲 。 求 生 不 得 。
Qiu si bu de 。 Ru shi deng bao 。 求 死 不 得 。 如 是 等 報 。 They will go through such pain over countless years, not able to get relief no matter how they beg for it.
Jin ri jie xi ji sang 。 Can kui chan hui 。 今 日 皆 悉 稽 顙 。 慚 愧 懺 悔 。 Today, we sincerely regret and repent such retributions.
Ci fu chan hui 。 次 復 懺 悔 。 Next, we repent the karmic actions that would result in the following retributions.
Dao shan jian shu di yu 。 Shen shou tuo luo zui 刀 山 劍 樹 地 獄 。 身 首 脫 落 罪
bao 。 報 。 Our head and body being separated in the hell of knife mountain and sword trees.

Chan hui huo tang lu tan di yu 。 Shao zhu zui 懺 悔 鑊 湯 罏 炭 地 獄 。 燒 煮 罪
bao 。 報 。 We repent being cooked in the hell of hot coals and boiling water.
Chan hui tie chuang tong zhu di yu 。 Jiao ran zui 懺 悔 鐵 牀 銅 柱 地 獄 。 燋 然 罪
bao 。 報 。 We repent being burnt in the hells of hot iron beds and bronze posts.
Chan hui dao lun huo che di yu 。 Pi li zui 懺 悔 刀 輪 火 車 地 獄 。 劈 礫 罪
bao 。 報 。 We repent the karmic retribution of being cut into pieces in the hell of knife wheels and burning carriages.
Chan hui ba she li geng di yu 。 Chu tong zui 懺 悔 拔 舌 犂 耕 地 獄 。 楚 痛 罪
bao 。 Chan hui tun dan tie wan 。 Yang tong guan 報 。 懺 悔 吞 噉 鐵 丸 。 烊 銅 灌
kou di yu 。 Wu nei xiao lan zui bao 。 Chan 口 地 獄 。 五 內 消 爛 罪 報 。 懺
hui tie mo di yu 。 Gu rou hui fen zui bao 悔 鐵 磨 地 獄 。 骨 肉 灰 粉 罪 報 We repent the extreme pain of our tongue being extracted and plowed. Our internal organs being destroyed in the hell of burning copper poured in our body and by swallowing iron balls, and our bones and flesh being ground into pieces in the hell of iron grinders.

Chan hui hei sheng di yu 。 Zhi jie fen li zui 懺 悔 黑 繩 地 獄 。 肢 節 分 離 罪
bao 。 報 。 We also repent the offenses that would result in our limbs being torn apart in the hells of black ropes.
Chan hui hui he fei shi di yu 。 Nao men zui 懺 悔 灰 河 沸 屎 地 獄 。 惱 悶 罪
bao 。 報 。 We repent the drowning in the hells of ash rivers and boiling feces.
Chan hui xian shui han bing di yu 。 Pi fu chai 懺 悔 鹹 水 寒 氷 地 獄 。 皮 膚 拆
lie luo dong zui bao 。 Chan hui chai lang ying quan 裂 裸 凍 罪 報 。 懺 悔 豺 狼 鷹 犬
di yu 。 Geng xiang can hai zui bao 。 地 獄 。 更 相 殘 害 罪 報 。 We repent for our skin being exposed to extreme cold and chapped in the hell of frozen and salt water, and being attacked and killed in the hell of wolves, eagles, and dogs.
Chan hui dao bing ju zhuo di yu 。 Geng xiang bo 懺 悔 刀 兵 距 爪 地 獄 。 更 相 搏
cuo zhuo ci zui bao 。 撮 斫 刺 罪 報 。 We repent the actions that would result in being chopped and stabbed in the hell of knifes and claws.
Chan hui huo keng di yu 。 Pao zhi zui bao 。 懺 悔 火 坑 地 獄 。 炮 炙 罪 報 。
Chan hui liang shi xiang ke di yu 。 Xing hai sui 懺 悔 兩 石 相 磕 地 獄 。 形 骸 碎

Jie ti zui bao 。 解 剔 罪 報 。 We repent our bodies being burned in the hell of fiercely burning fire holes. Our bodies being crushed in the hell of two huge stones crashing into each other; and our bodies being quartered in the hell of multitudes of implements of torture.
Chan hui an ming rou shan di yu 。 Zhan cuo zui 懺 悔 闇 冥 肉 山 地 獄 。 斬 剉 罪
bao 。 報 。 We also repent the karmic actions that will result in our bodies being cut and chopped in the extremely dark hell of piling fresh.
Chan hui ju jie ding shen di yu 。 Duan jie zui 懺 悔 鋸 解 釘 身 地 獄 。 斷 截 罪
bao 。 報 。 We repent our bodies being separated in the hell of saws and nails.
Chan hui tie bang dao xuan di yu 。 Tu ge zui 懺 悔 鐵 棒 倒 懸 地 獄 。 屠 割 罪
bao 。 報 。 We repent our bodies being cut in the hell of iron rods and being hanged upside-down.
Chan hui jiao re jiao huan di yu 。 Fan yuan zui 懺 悔 燋 熱 呌 喚 地 獄 。 煩 寃 罪
bao 。 報 。 We repent our bodies being in the hell of extreme heat and wailing. 37

Chan hui da xiao tie wei shan jian 。 Chang ye ming 懺 悔 大 小 鐵 圍 山 間 。 長 夜 冥
ming 。 Bu shi san guang zui bao 。 冥 。 不 識 三 光 罪 報 。 We repent our bodies being trapped in the valley between mountains and never see light.
Chan hui a bo bo di yu 。 A po po di 懺 悔 阿 波 波 地 獄 。 阿 婆 婆 地
yu 。 A zha zha di yu 。 A luo luo di 獄 。 阿 吒 吒 地 獄 。 阿 羅 羅 地
yu 。 Ru shi ba han ba re yi qie zhu di 獄 。 如 是 八 寒 八 熱 一 切 諸 地
yu zhong 。 獄 中 。 We repent all actions that would result in the eight hells of extreme heat and eight of extreme cold such as the hell of Apapa (so cold that only this sound can be uttered), the hell of Abuobuo, the hell of Atata (the only possible sound from frozen lips), the hell of Aluoluo, etc.
Fu you ba wan si qian ge zi di yu yi wei 復 有 八 萬 四 千 鬲 子 地 獄 以 為
juan shu 。 眷 屬 。 Such hells have eighty four thousand smaller hells within them.
Ci zhong zui ku 。 Pao zhu chu tong 。 Bo pi 此 中 罪 苦 。 炮 煮 楚 痛 。 剝 皮
shua rou 。 Xue gu da sui 。 Chou chang ba fei 刷 肉 。 削 骨 打 髓 。 抽 腸 拔 肺
Wu liang zhu ku 。 Bu ke wen 。 Bu ke shuo 無 量 諸 苦 。 不 可 聞 。 不 可 說 The suffering in these hells brings such inconceivable pain that we do not bear to hear or describe. The 38
Compassion Samadhi Water Repentance 慈悲三昧水懺科儀 suffering includes the extreme pain of being cooked and broiled; the pain of being skinned and flesh being sliced; the pain of being boned and spinal cord being tapped; and the pain of intestine being pulled and lungs being removed.
Nan mo fo 。 Jin ri zai ci zhong zhe 。 Huo 南 無 佛 。 今 日 在 此 中 者 。 或
shi wo deng wu shi yi lai 。 是 我 等 無 始 以 來 。 Namo Buddha, the sufferers in these hells could be our parents, family members, since beginningless time.
Jing sheng fu mu 。 Yi qie juan shu 。 Wo deng 經 生 父 母 。 一 切 眷 屬 。 我 等
yu bi ming zhong zhi hou 。 Huo dang fu duo ru 與 彼 命 終 之 後 。 或 當 復 墮 如
ci yu zhong 。 此 獄 中 。 We and our family members, after our lives and their lives ended, fell into the hells such as these.
Jin ri xi xin ken dao 。 Kou tou ji sang xiang 今 日 洗 心 懇 禱 。 叩 頭 稽 顙 向
shi fang fo 。 Da di pu sa 。 Qiu ai chan 十 方 佛 。 大 地 菩 薩 。 求 哀 懺
hui 。 Ling ci yi qie zui bao 。 Bi jing xiao 悔 。 令 此 一 切 罪 報 。 畢 竟 消
mie 。 滅 。 Today, with our minds cleansed, we pray sincerely to all buddhas and all the great bodhisattvas in the ten directions and we repent our past offenses and wish that all karmic retributions could be completely eradicated.
Yuan cheng shi chan hui 。 Di yu deng bao 。 Suo 願 承 是 懺 悔 。 地 獄 等 報 。 所

sheng gong de 。 Ji shi po huai 。 A bi tie 生 功 德 。 即 時 破 壞 。 阿 鼻 鐵
cheng 。 Xi wei jing tu 。 城 。 悉 為 淨 土 。 Through the merits of the repenting the karmic retribution of falling into hells, we hope that the hell of never ceasing suffering will be destroyed and turned into a pure land.
Wu e dao ming 。 Qi yu di yu 。 Yi qie 無 惡 道 名 。 其 餘 地 獄 。 一 切
ku ju 。 Zhuan wei le yuan 。 苦 具 。 轉 為 樂 緣 。 There, even the name of evil realms and all the suffering of the other hells will be turned into conditions for bliss.
Dao shan jian shu 。 Bian cheng bao lin 。 Huo tang 刀 山 劍 樹 。 變 成 寶 林 。 鑊 湯
lu tan 。 Lian hua hua sheng 。 爐 炭 。 蓮 華 化 生 。 We hope that the knife mountains and sword trees will transform into the forest of treasures; while the buring charcoals and boiling water will transform into lotus flowers.
Niu tou yu zu 。 Chu she bao nue 。 Jie qi 牛 頭 獄 卒 。 除 捨 暴 虐 。 皆 起
ci bei 。 Wu you e nian 。 慈 悲 。 無 有 惡 念 。 The jailers and guards of hells will abandon their cruel punishment and give rise to compassion, without any evil intentions.
Di yu zhong sheng 。 De li ku guo 。 Geng bu 地 獄 眾 生 。 得 離 苦 果 。 更 不
zao yin 。 Deng shou an le 。 Ru di san chan 造 因 。 等 受 安 樂 。 如 第 三 禪 All the beings in hell will be relieved of their sufferings and they will never create any causes for such, but be able to enjoy bliss as in the third dyana heaven. 40

Yi shi ju fa 。 Wu shang dao xin 。 Chan hui 一 時 俱 發 。 無 上 道 心 。 懺 悔
yi 。 Zhi xin xin li 。 Chang zhu san bao 。 已 。 至 心 信 禮 。 常 住 三 寶 。 They will all give rise to the utmost resolve for the Way. After repenting, with faith, we sincerely prostrate to the ever abiding Triple Gem.

Nan mo pi lu zhe na Fo 。 南 無 毘 盧 遮 那 佛 。 We take refuge in Vairocana Buddha.
Nan mo ben shi shi jia Mou ni fo （Make one prostration） 南 無 本 師 釋 迦 牟 尼 佛 （頂禮一拜） We take refuge in our orginal teacher Sakyamuni Buddha.

We take refuge in Kasaya Buddha. Nan mo shi zi hou fo （Make one prostration） 南 無 師 子 吼 佛 （頂禮一拜） We take refuge in Lion’s Roar Buddha. Li zhu fo yi 。 Ci fu chan hui 。 Yi chan 禮 諸 佛 已 。 次 復 懺 悔 。 已 懺
di yu bao jing 。 Jin dang chan hui 。 San e 地 獄 報 竟 。 今 當 懺 悔 。 三 惡
dao bao 。 道 報 。 After we have paid homage to the buddhas, we will continue to repent. Now that we have repented the retributions of being born in the hells, we will continue to repent the retribution of being born in the three suffering realms.
Jing zhong fo shuo 。 Duo yu zhi ren 。 Duo qiu 經 中 佛 說 。 多 欲 之 人 。 多 求
li gu 。 Ku nao yi duo 。 利 故 。 苦 惱 亦 多 。 As the Buddha said in the sutras, the ones with many desires, as the result of seeking to fulfill their desires, they also have more afflictions.
Zhi zu zhi ren 。 Sui wo di shang 。 You wei 知 足 之 人 。 雖 臥 地 上 。 猶 為
an le 。 Bu zhi zu zhe 。 Sui chu tian tang 安 樂 。 不 知 足 者 。 雖 處 天 堂
You bu cheng yi 。 猶 不 稱 意 。 The contented ones feel joy even when they are sleeping on the floor while the discontented ones do not feel happy even when are in the blissful heaven.
Dan shi jian ren 。 Hu you ji nan bian neng she 但 世 間 人 。 忽 有 急 難 便 能 捨
cai 。 Bu ji duo shao 。 財 。 不 計 多 少 。 People in the world are willing to give up their fortune if they are in great danger or suffering no matter how much it takes.

Er bu zhi ci shen 。 Lin yu san tu 。 Shen 而 不 知 此 身 。 臨 於 三 塗 。 深
keng zhi shang 。 坑 之 上 。 However, they do not realize that their existence is like perching above a deep abyss of the three suffering realms.
Yi xi bu huan 。 Bian ying duo luo 。 一 息 不 還 。 便 應 墮 落 。 As soon as the next breath does not come, they will fall.
Hu you zhi shi 。 Quan ying gong de 。 Ling zuo 忽 有 知 識 。 勸 營 功 德 。 令 作
wei lai shan fa zi liang 。 Zhi ci qian xin 。 未 來 善 法 資 糧 。 執 此 慳 心 。
Wu ken zuo li 。 無 肯 作 理 。 If a benevolent person advises him to cultivate various merits and virtues for the preparation of future lives, he may not do it because he is too stingy even for his own good.
Fu ru shi zhe 。 Ji wei yu huo 。 He yi 夫 如 是 者 。 極 為 愚 惑 。 何 以
gu er 。 故 爾 。 Such actions are very deluded, and why is that so?
Jing zhong fo shuo 。 Sheng shi bu ji yi wen er 經 中 佛 說 。 生 時 不 齎 一 文 而
lai 。 Si yi bu chi yi wen er qu 。 來 。 死 亦 不 持 一 文 而 去 。 Because the Buddha said a person is not born with any money nor he can take any with him when he dies.

wu yi 。 Tu wei ta you 。 無 益 。 徒 為 他 有 。 Working hard themselves to gather worldly possessions and worry about their belongings, which does not benefit themselves because all will end up being the possessions of others.
Wu shan ke shi 。 Wu de ke hu 。 Zhi shi 無 善 可 恃 。 無 德 可 怙 。 致 使
ming zhong 。 Duo zhu e dao 。 命 終 。 墮 諸 惡 道 。 Without good deeds or virtues to rely on, they end up falling to the suffering realms on their passing.
Shi gu jin ri 。 Gui ming san bao 。 Zhi cheng 是 故 今 日 。 皈 命 三 寶 。 至 誠
chan hui 。 懺 悔 。 Therefore, today we take refuge in the Triple Gem and repent sincerely.
Ci fu chan hui 。 Chu sheng dao zhong 。 Wu suo 次 復 懺 悔 。 畜 生 道 中 。 無 所
shi zhi zui bao 。 識 知 罪 報 。 Next, we continue to repent the offenses that will result in being born as animals, having no intelligence to understand karmic retributions.

ge zui bao 。 割 罪 報 。 We repent the retributions of being animals carrying loads and plowing fields because of what we owed to others. We repent the retributions of beings stabbed, cut, and not able to have freedom.
Chan hui chu sheng dao zhong 。 Wu zu er zu 。 懺 悔 畜 生 道 中 。 無 足 二 足 。
Si zu duo zu zui bao 。 四 足 多 足 罪 報 。 We repent the retributions of being born as animals with no feet, two feet, four feet, or many feet.
Chan hui chu sheng dao zhong 。 Shen zhu mao yu 。 懺 悔 畜 生 道 中 。 身 諸 毛 羽 。
Lin jia zhi nei 。 鱗 甲 之 內 。 We repent the retributions of being an animal with hair, feathers, or scales and being bitten by little insects that live under this skin covering.
Wei zhu xiao chong zhi suo sha shi zui bao 。 Ru 為 諸 小 蟲 之 所 唼 食 罪 報 。 如
shi chu sheng dao zhong 。 You wu liang zui bao 。 是 畜 生 道 中 。 有 無 量 罪 報 。 There are endless sufferings like these when being born to be different animals.
Jin ri zhi cheng 。 Jie xi chan hui 。 今 日 至 誠 。 皆 悉 懺 悔 。 Today, we sincerely repent all the offenses that result in such retributions.
Ci fu chan hui 。 E gui dao zhong 。 次 復 懺 悔 。 餓 鬼 道 中 。 Next, we will continue to repent the offenses that will result in being born as hungry ghosts.

Chang shou ji ke 。 Bai qian wan sui 。 Bu wen 長 受 饑 渴 。 百 千 萬 歲 。 不 聞
jiang shui zhi ming zui bao 。 漿 水 之 名 罪 報 。 As hungry ghosts that last thousands of years, we will always feel hunger and thirst which could never be relieved.
Chan hui e gui 。 Shi dan nong xue 。 Fen hui 懺 悔 餓 鬼 。 食 噉 膿 血 。 糞 穢
zui bao 。 罪 報 。 We repent the retributions of hungry ghosts, having to eat only feces and drink only wound discharge and blood.
Chan hui e gui 。 Dong shen zhi shi 。 Yi qie 懺 悔 餓 鬼 。 動 身 之 時 。 一 切
zhi jie huo ran zui bao 。 肢 節 火 然 罪 報 。 We repent for the retribution of all the joints in the body burning when trying to move.
Chan hui e gui 。 Fu da yen xiao zui bao 。 懺 悔 餓 鬼 。 腹 大 咽 小 罪 報 。 We repent for the retribution of being huge in the abdomen but very narrow in the throat.
Ru shi e gui dao zhong 。 Wu liang ku bao 。 如 是 餓 鬼 道 中 。 無 量 苦 報 。
Jin ri ji sang qiu ai 。 Jie xi chan hui 。 今 日 稽 顙 求 哀 。 皆 悉 懺 悔 。 Today, we regret and repent sincerely for these retributions of being born to be hungry ghosts with endless sufferings. Ci fu chan hui 。 Yi qie gui shen 。 Xiu luo 次 復 懺 悔 。 一 切 鬼 神 。 脩 羅

bian yi qie zui bao 。 邊 一 切 罪 報 。 We repent the retributions of being Rakas (Raksasas) or various evil ghosts and sprits, which are very ugly and eat only flesh and blood.
Jin ri ji sang 。 Xiang shi fang fo 。 Da di 今 日 稽 顙 。 向 十 方 佛 。 大 地

Yuan cheng shi chan hui 。 Chu sheng deng bao 。 願 承 是 懺 悔 。 畜 生 等 報 。 Today, we regret and repent sincerely to the buddhas and bodhisattvas in the ten directions for these retributions with endless sufferings and hope that such retributions will be eradicated.

Fu li ren tian 。 福 利 人 天 。 Through the same merits from repentance, in all future lives, we will always be decent in our character and will not flatter others so that we will not have the retribution of being born in ugly forms, but be born as human or divine beings.

Yi shi yuan li 。 Chu zhi wu yan 。 Yi chan 以 誓 願 力 。 處 之 無 厭 。 已 懺

chan hui 。 懺 悔 。 Now that we have repented the retributions of being born in the three suffering realms, we will continue to repent for the retributions of being born as human or celestial beings.

ming 。 Sui yue bai nian 。 命 。 雖 曰 百 年 。 As human beings, it’s rare that one can live over a hundred years.

zhan li 。 暫 離 。 There are countless people who died young or in their middle age and we always have various kinds of suffering in our minds and bodies such as worries and fears.

duo 。 Zhi shi xian zai 。 Fan you suo wei 。 多 。 致 使 現 在 。 凡 有 所 為 。
Jie bu cheng yi 。 Dang zhi xi shi guo qu yi 皆 不 稱 意 。 當 知 悉 是 過 去 以
lai 。 E ye yu bao suo zhi 。 來 。 惡 業 餘 報 所 致 。 Such retributions that we are always in unsatisfactory conditions is because we have very little good deeds but many improper deeds from our past lives.

Zhi yu jin ri 。 Suo you xian zai 。 Ji yi 至 于 今 日 。 所 有 現 在 。 及 以

We repent the retributions in the world of swelling from gout and stuffiness.

Shui lu yi qie zhu e qin shou suo shang zui bao 水 陸 一 切 諸 惡 禽 獸 所 傷 罪 報 We repent for the retributions of being born as humans attacked by various animals and creatures in water or on the land such as tiger, leopard, cougers or wolves.
Chan hui ren jian 。 Zi yi zi ci 。 Zi sha 懺 悔 人 間 。 自 縊 自 刺 。 自 殺
zui bao 。 Chan hui ren jian 。 Tou keng fu huo 罪 報 。 懺 悔 人 間 。 投 坑 赴 火
Zi chen zi duo zui bao 。 自 沉 自 墜 罪 報 。 We repent for the retributions of being born as humans committing suicide by hanging, stabbing, or shooting oneself, or by jumping off high places, setting on fire, or drowning oneself. 54

heng 。 Zai yi e nan shuai nao zui bao 。 橫 。 災 疫 厄 難 衰 惱 罪 報 。 We repent for the retributions of being born as humans without powers or virtues, not having clothing or necessities for life, not able to fulfill wishes, with work being obstructed by enemies.
Zhong deng jin ri zhi cheng 。 Xiang shi fang fo 。 眾 等 今 日 至 誠 。 向 十 方 佛 。
Zun fa sheng zhong 。 Qiu ai chan hui 。 Yuan jie 尊 法 聖 眾 。 求 哀 懺 悔 。 願 皆
xiao mie 。 Qian yi chan hui 。 消 滅 。 前 已 懺 悔 。 Today, we regret and repent sincerely to the buddhas and bodhisattvas in the ten directions for these retributions in the present and future lives as human or divine beings that are filled with endless disasters, troubles, plagues, difficulties, and afflictions.

Xi jie hui xiang 。 Shi yu yi qie zhong sheng 。 悉 皆 回 向 。 施 與 一 切 眾 生 。
Ju tong chan hui 。 俱 同 懺 悔 。 Now that we have repented the afflictions resulted form three karma of body, speech, and mind, six sensory organs and all the retributions of being born in the four forms and in the Six Realms, we will now make the resolve to transfer the merits from repenting all three types of obstructions to all sentient beings.
Yuan yu yi qie zhong sheng 。 Xian sheng zhi nei 。 願 與 一 切 眾 生 。 現 生 之 內 。
Shen xin an le 。 San zai ba nan 。 Bu ji 身 心 安 樂 。 三 災 八 難 。 不 吉
xiang shi 。 Xian xi xiao chu 。 祥 事 。 咸 悉 消 除 。 We wish that all sentient beings are healthy, happy, and peaceful and they do not meet with the three disasters and eight difficulties or any undersirable happenings in their present life.
Yi shi feng rao 。 Zheng xin san bao 。 衣 食 豐 饒 。 正 信 三 寶 。 They all have abundant food and clothing and they all have the right faith in the Triple Gem.
She ci bao shen 。 Jie de wang sheng 。 Ji le 捨 此 報 身 。 皆 得 徃 生 。 極 樂

zheng fa 。 Ru jiao jin xiu 。 正 法 。 如 教 進 脩 。 In the future, they will be able to hear the Dharma expounded by Maitreya Buddha and they will cultivate accordingly. Yuan de sheng sheng shi shi 。 Zai zai chu chu 。 願 得 生 生 世 世 。 在 在 處 處 。
Chang zhi guo wang 。 Xing long san bao 。 Bu sheng 常 值 國 王 。 興 隆 三 寶 。 不 生
wai dao xie jian zhi jia 。 外 道 邪 見 之 家 。 We wish that in all their future lives, in every place they go, they will always be born in a country of prosperity, and the Triple Gem are respected by all and not be born in the family of non-Buddhist with improper views.
You yuan sheng sheng shi shi 。 Zai zai chu chu 。 又 願 生 生 世 世 。 在 在 處 處 。
Lian hua hua sheng 。 Zhong zu zun sheng an yin kuai 蓮 華 化 生 。 種 族 尊 勝 安 隱 快
le 。 Yi shi zi ran 。 樂 。 衣 食 自 然 。 In their future lives, in every place they go, they will be born from the lotus flowers in a place where all races are treated equal. Their lives will be happy and peaceful, and they naturally have food and clothing as and when needed.

Chang wei zhu fo zhi suo hu nian neng xiang mo yuan 常 為 諸 佛 之 所 護 念 能 降 魔 怨

yi chu 。 Pu ti dao xin 。 Xiang xu bu duan 一 處 。 菩 提 道 心 。 相 續 不 斷 We wish that in their future lives, in every place they go, they rely on the protection of all buddhas. They will be able to overcome any demonic hatred and non-Buddhist beliefs. They will be able to associate themselves with all bodhisattvas, always sustaining their bodhi resolve without any break.

fa shi yuan 。 Suo xiu fu zhi 。 發 誓 願 。 所 脩 福 智 。 We wish that in all future lives, in every place they go, they will propagate the Buddha Dharma, cultivate the Large Vehicle, and have endless manifestations in helping and saving all sentient beings without losing their faith until they attain enlightenment. We will make the same vows as that of all buddhas and bodhisattvas, always transferring the blessings and wisdom from their cultivation to all sentient beings.
Suo xing hui xiang wo yi ru shi fa yuan 。 Xiu 所 行 回 向 我 亦 如 是 發 願 。 脩

Even if the universe may end, the realms of sentient beings may end, the karma of sentient beings may end, and the defilements of sentient beings may end.

zhi guang ming 。 之 光 明 。 The auspicious clouds gathering while Tathagata emits five-color light brightly.
Bao zhu tu hua 。 Pu sa xian you tan zhi rui 寶 燭 吐 花 。 菩 薩 現 優 曇 之 瑞
xiang 。 San zhuan fa lun 。 相 。 三 轉 法 輪 。 The precious candles blossom while the bodhisattvas manifest auspiciousness, turning the Dharma wheels three times.
Yu zuo shang 。 San shen yuan xian yu guang zhong 。 於 座 上 。 三 身 圓 現 於 光 中 。
Yuan man sheng yin 。 Zheng ming gong de 。 Shang lai 圓 滿 勝 因 。 證 明 功 德 。 上 來
feng wei qiu chan mou deng 。 奉 為 求 懺 某 等 。 With the Buddha’s three bodies (Dharma body, reward body, and transformation body) appearing in the light, perfecting auspicious causes and testimony of merits. Now we seek for repentance.

Cong shi zhi zhong jin yi ke fan 。 Xing dao rao 從 始 至 終 謹 依 科 範 。 行 道 繞
xuan 。 Feng jing chi zhou 。 旋 。 諷 經 持 呪 。 Right now, at the end of the third scroll, the merits and virtues are complete. We practitioners sincerely recited the text and mantras in the shrine with full compliance to the proper procedures and manners.
Xuan chan ding li 。 Chang fo gui yi 。 Xian xin 宣 懺 頂 禮 。 唱 佛 皈 依 。 獻 心
hua yu zhu fo xiang qian 。 Xue zui qian yu zhong 花 於 諸 佛 像 前 。 雪 罪 愆 於 眾
zhen zuo xia 。 真 座 下 。 We loudly repented and paid homage to all the Buddhas, took refuge while chanting the buddhas’ names, offered our heart flowers to all buddhas, and hope to have eradicated our karmic offenses in front of all the honorable ones.
Suo ji shu xun 。 Xian shen hui xiang 。 Le bang 所 集 殊 勳 。 先 伸 回 向 。 樂 邦
wu liang shou 。 Hua zang shi jia zun 。 Ming yang 無 量 壽 。 華 藏 釋 迦 尊 。 冥 陽
liang jie zhi wei ling 。 兩 界 之 威 靈 。 We then transferred the merits from this repentance to beings in all Dharma Realms and hope that every being will be born in the land of bliss with infinite life.
Yuan jin wu bian zhi zhen zai 。 Yi ci shu sheng 遠 近 無 邊 之 真 宰 。 以 此 殊 勝

wei xi zui qian 。 Cheng jiu wu bian fu li 。 微 細 罪 愆 。 成 就 無 邊 福 利 。 Sakyamuni Buddha is the most supreme in the realms of human and spirit in the boundless universe. With this most special and supreme condition, we wish that even the minor karmic offenses of all repentance participants have been cleansed away and they can receive the limitless benefits.
Fu yuan 。 Bai qian hua fo 。 Gong xing yi zi 伏 願 。 百 千 化 佛 。 共 興 一 子
zhi bei xin 。 之 悲 心 。 We wish that the hundreds and thousands of transformation buddhas give rise to compassion for sentient beings as if for their child.
San shi ru lai 。 Bing shou qi zhi zhi ju jie 三 世 如 來 。 禀 受 七 支 之 具 戒
San wu lou xue xuan ming 。 San hui long hua shou 三 無 漏 學 宣 明 。 三 會 龍 華 授
ji 。 記 。 The buddhas of the three time periods (past, present, and future) will instruct us with the seven precepts and the three learnings of no outflows (precepts, morality, and wisdom) and will make predictions for us to gain enlightenment at the Three Dragon Flower Assemblies (when Maitreya Buddha descends among us to teach us).
Yi xin bu luan 。 Ye shi dun kong 。 一 心 不 亂 。 業 識 頓 空 。 We will maintain mindfulness and hope to achieve the state that all karma and consciousness being empty.
Si en pu bao 。 San you jun zi 。 Fa jie 四 恩 普 報 。 三 有 均 資 。 法 界

yuan qin 。 Xian zhan li le 。 寃 親 。 咸 沾 利 樂 。 We hope we will repay all the kindness we received from our country, parents, teachers, and all sentient beings, and we will benefit the Three Realms and all our family, friends, and enemies in all dharma realms.
Sui ze yi wen chan hui 。 You kong fa lu wei 雖 則 依 文 懺 悔 。 猶 恐 發 露 未
cheng 。 Zai lao zun zhong 。 Zhong qiu chan hui 。 誠 。 再 勞 尊 眾 。 重 求 懺 悔 。 Although we have recited according to the liturgy completely, but in fear of not showing enough sincerity, we again trouble the monastics to lead us in repentance.

大眾同音念阿彌陀佛聖號問訊至超薦靈位前，止佛號 The assembly makes a half bow to the Buddha, keeps chanting Namo Amitabha as the Presiding Monk proceeds to the Pure Land Shrine. Once at the Shrine, the assembly keeps on chanting until incense has been offered.
* Nan mo qing liang di pu sa mo he sa (Repeat * 3 Times) 南 無 清 涼 地 菩 薩 摩 訶 薩 (三稱) We take refuge in the Pure Cool Land Bodhisattvas, Mahasattvas.

zhi yi wu de 。 智 亦 無 得 。 Avaloskitesvara Bodhisattva, while profoundly contemplating the Prajna Paramita, realized that the Five Skandhas are empty, and thus he was able to overcome all sufferings. Sariputra, form is not different from emptiness, emptiness is not different from form; form is emptiness, and emptiness is form. The same is for feeling, conception, volition, and consciousness. Sariputra, emptiness is the nature of all dharmas. It neither arises nor ceases, can neither be defiled nor cleansed, neither increase nor decrease. Therefore, in emptiness there is no form, no feeling, conception, volition or consciousness; no eyes, ears, nose, tongue, body or mind; no form, sound, smell, taste, touch or conception; no object of eye consciousness; no ignorance, nor its cessation; no aging and no death, nor their cessation; no suffering, causes, cessation, nor the path; no wisdom, and nothing to attain.

As there is nothing to attain, a bodhisattva relying on the Prajna Pramita has neither worry nor obstruction, without worry and obstruction, there is no fear, away from confusion and dreaming, and thus reaches Nirvana. Buddhas of the past, present, and future, also rely on the Prajna Paramita to attain Supreme Enlightenment. Thus, one should know that Prajna Paramita is the great mantra, the mantra of illumination, the supreme of all mantras. It is unequalled and able to alleviate all sufferings. This is true and not false. Thus, in proclaiming the Prajna Paramita Mantra, it is said, “Gate, Gate, Paragate, Parasamgate, Bodhi svaha!”

慈悲偉大的佛陀！
Since transmigration that has existed without beginning,
無始以來，我或許曾經--
I may have disrespected the Triple Gem, and not been devoted to my parents; 輕慢三寶，不孝父母， I may have committed killing, stealing, sexual misconduct, and lying, and disturbed all beings; 殺盜淫妄，擾亂眾生， I may have been greedy, and vexed, and indulged in the pleasures of easy lives; 貪欲煩惱，耽著逸樂， I may have exalted myself and depreciated others, and slandered virtuous ones and sages; 貢高我慢，毀謗聖賢， I may have doubted the relation between cause and effect, and had wrong views, ignorance, and delusion. 謗無因果，邪見愚癡。 Now, we are all here to pray for your compassion and to repent. 如今，弟子等在此求哀懺悔， We pray for your sympathy and acceptance: 祈求慈悲偉大的佛陀哀愍納受， May our inner, ignorant delusions be illuminated by the bright lamp of repentance; 願我們內心的癡暗，能因懺悔的明燈而照亮；

願我們嫉恨的刀箭，能因懺悔的力量而損毀； May the wound of our fear be eased by the comfort of repentance; 願我們恐懼的創傷，能因懺悔的慰藉而安穩；
May the chronic disease of our indulgence be cured by the medicine of repentance;
願我們放逸的沉痾，能因懺悔的藥草而治癒； May the muddy waters of ill will be purified by the pure drop of repentance. 願我們怨懟的濁水，能因 懺悔的清珠而潔淨。
Oh great, compassionate Buddha! 慈悲偉大的佛陀！ From now on, I will beautify life with compassion;
今後，我要用慈悲來美化人生， From now on, I will purify society with joyous giving; 今後，我要用喜捨來淨化社會 ，

Since the past kalpa,
曠劫以來，
All beings have been lost in the abyss of the karma of wrongdoings.
眾生迷失於罪業深淵之中，
It is the Dharma that teaches and guides us in the method of repentance, 是佛法，教導懺悔的法門， It is the Dharma water that cleanses our karma of enmity. 是法水，洗滌我們的冤業。 Oh great, compassionate Buddha! 慈悲偉大的佛陀！ We would like to embody the compassion and wisdom of all Buddhas and bodhisattvas; 我們要以諸佛菩薩的悲智為榜樣， We would like to emulate the actions and vows of ancient virtuous and wise ones; 我們要以古聖先賢的行願為典範。 We would like to exalt the method of the repentance service,
我們要發揚懺悔的法門，
To enable everyone to cleanse themselves of the karma of wrongdoings, and move towards a happy life; 讓大家洗清罪業， 走向幸福的人生； We would like to repent for the masses everywhere, 我們要代十方大眾懺悔， To enable them to take the precious raft of the Dharma across the sea of suffering to liberation together. 讓大家共乘寶筏， 同登解脫的彼岸。 Oh great, compassionate Buddha, Please accept my sincerest prayer! 慈悲偉大的佛陀！祈求您接受我至誠的祈願，

Li chan gong de shu sheng xing , Wu bian sheng fu 禮 懺 功 德 殊 勝 行 ， 無 邊 勝 福
jie hui xiang 。 皆 回 向 。 Virtues of repentance are extraordinary and auspicious; these boundless merits are transferred.
Pu yuan chen ni zhu you qing , Su wang wu liang 普 願 沈 溺 諸 有 情 ， 速 往 無 量
guang fo cha 。 光 佛 刹 。 May all sentient beings, drowning and adrift, be reborn in the Buddha Land of Infinite Light
