Grant Hunter • Associate Minister of Red Tape Reduction. • Spring Session starting May 21 with 10-12 new bills being brought forward.

Nathan Neudorf • Looking forward to getting to know, and working with all the Mayors and Reeves.

Shannon Phillips • will be attending Mayors and Reeves of Southwest Alberta meetings, as well as Highway #3 Twinning Development meetings as an office volunteer.

6.0 PRESENTATIONS – 6.1 STARS Foundation – Tamara Smith, Senior Development Officer • STARS first flight was December 1985. • STARS is a crucial link in the health care spectrum in Southern Alberta. • Thousands of people depend on STARS every year. • STARS has partnered with Rural Health Professions Action Plan. • STARS has ICU capabilities. • AHS is currently assessing all landing pads. • Temporary landing zones need to be free of any encroachment.

6.2 Fulcrum Waste Management – Murray Gardner • Discussed technology that can transform the way we handle waste. • Commercial scale processing plants can be customized to handle whatever type of waste you have. • One ton of municipal waste can produce 500 kw/h or more of electricity. • Municipalities would be responsible for transporting the waste to the processing plants. • Currently no operating facilities yet.

6.3 Chinook Sexual Assault Centre – Christine Cassie, CEO • Vision is to end sexual violence, give support, and help with system navigation. • Provide court support, police support and education awareness.

Mayors and Reeves of Southwest Alberta Page 3 May 3, 2019 Minutes • Serve all ages and genders. • 1 in 3 women/girls and 1 in 6 men/boys have experienced sexual violence. • Young Canadians under the age of 18 are five times higher to experience sexual violence, disabled and indigenous peoples are three times higher to experience sexual assault.

7.1 Alberta Southwest Regional Alliance Report – Barney Reeves • Please see electronic report that was sent out along with the May Agenda package.

7.2 SouthGrow – Mayor Jim Willett • EV network is in the process of getting permits in place for all municipalities. • Looking at site placement along the Highway 4 corridor.

7.3 RMA – Brian Brewin • Please refer to electronic report that was sent out with the May Agenda package.

7.4 AUMA – Mayor Bruce McLeod • Municipal Leader Conference will be held June 11 in Claresholme.

7.5 Oldman Watershed Council – Shannon Frank • Welcome Mayor Jim Bester to the board. • Thanked RMA for passing a resolution to support watershed councils. • Thanked all municipalities that donated from February to April. • Discussed winning the benefit brew.

7.6 Highway #3 Association- Bill Chapman • Transport industry is vital to everyone in Canada, especially those along the Highway 3 corridor. • Relationship between Highway #3 Association and SouthGrow is growing. • Thanked new and returning MLA’s for their advocacy.

7.7 Correspondence – Mayor Chris Spearman • Motion that this group write a letter of congratulations to the newly appointed Cabinet Ministers – Carried • Motion is intended to raise awareness of the Mayors and Reeves of Southwest Alberta. • Discussed the importance of publicizing the Mayors and Reeves of Southwest Alberta.

7.8 Notice of Motion – Mayor Chris Spearman

Need to start advocating for the Mayors and Reeves of Southwest Alberta. • Promote philosophy that governance is a partnership.

8.0 NEXT MEETING DATE Friday, June 7, 2019 – Heritage Inn, Taber Alberta – 1:00pm

8.1 Irrigation Meeting – Reeve Lorne Hickey • Irrigation meeting is scheduled for May 10, 2019, however the Minister is unable to attend. • Agreed to reschedule meeting to a later date.
