The sunburn was accompanied by strep throat, a staph infection and quarter-sized mouth sores. Eating and drinking weren’t possible for three weeks. The burn was so intense that all she could stand to wear was a sheet laid over her singed body. “I remember getting out of the hospital. I stepped outside the hospital doors, the wind blew in my face and I started to cry because I hadn’t felt the breeze outside for so long. That breeze was the most beautiful thing I’ve experienced.
