December 6th bulletin: November 30th FAITH FORMATION UPDATES Last week, we featured the tables set up by members of the St. Francis clergy. This week, we are sharing the prayer table from the Faith Formation Office. Everyone in the office brought an item from home to place on the table.

Lisa Schmidt added a rosary made from the flowers used at her dad’s funeral. The rose petals were dried and then became part of the rosary beads. Lisa shared a close relationship with her dad and deeply treasures this rosary.

Heather Rohe placed a small, square sign on the prayer table. She likes the colors, but also feels the words on the sign are good reminders for her. One side reads, “Believe in the things unseen.” The other side says, “God first...the rest will follow.” Heather believes that by putting God first, everything else in life will take care of itself.

Vivian Day shared one of the veils she sometimes wears to Mass. After becoming Catholic, she attended a local Catholic women’s event and was impressed by the number of women wearing veils. It was so striking to her that she researched this practice and then decided to try it. She found covering up helped her to focus less on herself and to be more open to God and reverent during Mass.

Erica Schieffer also brought a rosary, which was a gift. It was made for her by a student on a Kairos Retreat. It is special to her because it represents the love she feels from and for the youth with whom she works.

Chris Van Kirk put a Bible on the prayer table. It was a gift from her grandma, who was a key figure in Chris’ faith formation as a little girl. Chris’ family has moved frequently. Wherever they went, she always took the Bible with her. It has been around the world and back!

Jill Klubek Alonzo’s addition to the table was a necklace with a she received as part of the Teen Encounter Christ (TEC) Retreat program and a pin from the Adorers of the Blood of Christ (ASC) convent. These two organizations partnered together to form a special group of volunteers called ASC/TECs, of which Jill was a part. As an ASC/TEC volunteer, Jill participated in service learning in the Appalachians for many years of her early adult life.

Christy Peletz shared a candle from her grade school parish. She received it for a Search Retreat and especially loves the color. It’s blue, which is symbolic of Mary. Christy’s daughter was also baptized in this same parish, so the candle now represents a place where many special events from Christy’s life took place.

Fr. Mark included an item on the Faith Formation prayer table as well. He shared an icon of the woman at the well. This is one of his favorite Scripture passages because it speaks to God meeting us where we are in our lives. This icon came from a trip Fr. Mark took to the Holy Land. While there, he not only visited the well, but drank water from it. He said it was the best water he has ever drank and purchased this icon as a memento.

If you haven’t taken a picture of your personalized prayer table yet, make sure to take one! Then share it with the Together in Faith Facebook group.
