4 September 2014 CLP GREENPLUS Awards Recognise Green Efforts of Business Sector

CLP Power Hong Kong Limited (CLP Power) today announced the results of its third GREENPLUS Recognition Award programme and selected 63 businesses and organisations, out of 4,000 applicants, to receive STAR Awards for their outstanding energy saving performances throughout the year.

Since its launch in 2012, the award programme has received an overwhelming response with the number of applicants rising from 400 in the first year to 2,400 in 2013. This year, the number of applications hit another record high of 4,000.

Participating organisations come from an increasingly diverse range of sectors, from small to medium enterprises and retail chain stores to new sectors including hotels, banks, public utility companies and universities, with a total of 15 categories this year. (Please refer to appendix.)

Created as part of CLP Power’s ongoing efforts to promote energy efficiency in the business sector, the GREENPLUS Recognition Award programme not only encourages business customers to adopt green measures in their operations but also cultivates a sustainable and collaborative green culture in the community.

Speaking at an awards ceremony to honour the winners, Mr Paul Poon, Managing Director of CLP Power, said: “We are delighted that our GREENPLUS Recognition Award programme provides such a popular platform for sharing the best green practices in the industry. The enthusiastic involvement of so many people shows the commitment of our business customers to energy efficiency, which is essential to improve the living environment in Hong Kong for future generations.”

The awards ceremony featured two showcase booths demonstrating how an automated induction cooker and a centralised dish washing system can help save on energy and costs for the catering industry while improving productivity. Award winners also shared their energy saving experiences with other guests.

Mr Poon added: “As the energy provider for our business customers, we will continue our efforts to provide the tools and knowledge as well as the latest technology to help them make their operations greener.”

Mr Raymond So, Chairman of the Energy Advisory Committee, and Mr Frank Chan, JP, Director of Electrical and Mechanical Services, praised the efforts of everyone involved, 1 including the government, the business sector and the community, in working towards making Hong Kong a low carbon city.

In a gesture of support towards Hong Kong’s collaborative green effort, 12 new Prestige Honour Awards were presented to the 2013 gold award recipients in recognition of their continuing efforts in energy saving.

As well as the GREENPLUS Recognition Award programme, CLP Power has launched a number of new initiatives to help business customers save energy cost. They include a 7-Day consumption forecast, a new feature of the Meter Online service, as well as the advanced version of the GREENPLUS Energy Billboard and the newly launched GREENPLUS Experience Centre, which helps customers better manage their power consumption.
