LESSONS FOR FINISHING WELL : A Portrait of Faith — Part 6 August 13, 2017 Jerry Clonch

“One day the Lord said to Moses, ‘Climb one of the mountains east of the river, and look out over the land I have given the people of Israel. After you have seen it, you will die like your brother, Aaron, for you both rebelled against my instructions in the wilderness of Zin. When the people of Israel rebelled, you failed to demonstrate my holiness to them at the waters.’” Numbers 27:12-14 (NLT) pg. 113

“Moses was 120 years old when he died, yet his eyesight was perfect and he was as strong as a young man.” Deuteronomy 34:7 (LB) pg. 146

THREE KEYS TO FINISHING WELL

A. ______Recognize that our choices direct our lives.

B. ______Embrace the need for a successor. “Moses said to the Lord, ‘May the Lord, the God who gives breath to all living things, appoint someone over this community to go out and come in before them, one who will lead them out and bring them in, so the Lord’s people will not be like sheep without a shepherd.’”

Numbers 27:15-17 (NIV) pg. 113

“So the Lord said to Moses, ‘Take Joshua son of Nun, a man in whom is the spirit of leadership, and lay your hand on him. Have him stand before Eleazar the priest and the entire assembly and com- mission him in their presence. Give him some of your authority so the whole Israelite community will obey him.’” Numbers 27:18-20 (NIV) pg. 113

“Moses did as the Lord commanded him. He took Joshua and had him stand before Eleazar the priest and the whole assembly. Then he laid his hands on him and commissioned him, as the Lord instructed through Moses.” Numbers 27:22-23 (NIV) pg. 113

“The Lord told Moses, ‘Go up into the Abarim Range to in , across from Jericho, and view Canaan, the land I am giving the Israelites as their own possession. There on the moun- tain that you have climbed you will die and be gathered to your people, just as your brother Aaron died on Mount Hor and was gathered to his people.’” Deuteronomy 32:48-50 (NIV) pg. 144

“Then Moses climbed Mount Nebo from the plains of Moab to the top of Pisgah, across from Jeri- cho. There the Lord showed him the whole land—from to Dan, all of Naphtali, the territory of Ephraim and Manasseh, all the land of Judah as far as the Mediterranean Sea, the Negev and the whole region from the Valley of Jericho, the City of Palms, as far as Zoar. Then the Lord said to him, ‘This is the land I promised on oath to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob when I said, I will give it to your descendants. I have let you see it with your eyes, but you will not cross over into it.’ And Moses the servant of the Lord died there in Moab, as the Lord had said.” Deuteronomy 34:1-5 (NIV) pg. 146

C. ______ Know God intimately and allow Him to use us completely. “Since then, no prophet has risen in Israel like Moses, whom the Lord knew face to face, who did all those signs and wonders the Lord sent him to do in Egypt—to Pharaoh and to all his officials and to his whole land. For no one has ever shown the mighty power or performed the awesome deeds that Moses did in the sight of all Israel.”Deuteronomy 34:10-12 (NIV) pg. 146
