Ballinamore is a small town in south County Leitrim. Ballinamore is equidistant from Dublin and Belfast, and has daily bus services to Carrick-on-Shannon, the county town of County Leitrim.
Ballinamore is also the centre of the Shannon-Erne waterway, a canal 63km long which links the River Shannon in the Republic of Ireland with the River Erne in Northern Ireland. The River Shannon is the longest river in Ireland at over 360km long, and divides the west of Ireland from the east and south.
County Leitrim is in the province of Connacht and is part of the Border Region, in the north of the country. Leitrim is the smallest of the 32 counties in Ireland by population.
