The idea for this record came from a friend of mine who suggested a collection of songs about the journey of life: the roads we take, the lessons we learn, the mysteries we’ll never understand. After decades of making music, what I know for sure is that the right song at the right time can be a lifesaver. I hope these songs speak to you like they speak to me. - Amy Hallelujah Better Than A Hallelujah Sarah Hart and Chapin Hartford “I’ve loved this song since I first heard it. The honesty and vulnerability of the lyric reminds me that to pray means to come as I am, imperfections and all, because ultimately, God seeks communion with us, the real us…and that’s freeing.” _____________________ ... _____________________ God loves a lullaby in a mother’s tears in the dead of night • Better than a Hallelujah sometimes • God loves a drunkard’s cry, the soldier’s plea not to let him die • Better than a Hallelujah sometimes We pour out our miseries, God just hears a melody • Beautiful the mess we are, the honest cries, of breaking hearts • Are better than a Hallelujah A woman holding on for life, a dying man giving up the fight • Are better than a Hallelujah sometimes • Tears of shame for what’s been done • The silence when the words won’t come • Are better than a Hallelujah sometimes •• Better than a church bell ringing • Better than a choir singing out, singing out Produced by Dan Muckala for Glorified Mono Productions // © 2009 River Oaks Music Company / spiritandsong.com Publishing (Admin. by EMI CMG Publishing) / Sony / Tree Music Publishing / Michael Puryear Music (BMI) // Acoustic and Electric Guitars: Adam Lester / Mixed by Dan Muckala / Engineered by Drew Bollman and Dan Muckala / Assistant Engineer: Dan Deurloo / Track Programming and Arranging by Dan Muckala / Recorded at “The House,” Nashville, TN and Glomo Studio, Franklin, TN no. 2 Overnight (featuring Sarah Chapman) Natalie Hemby, Luke Laird, Audrey Spillman, and Amy Grant “I had been trying for some time to find a song to sing with my daughter, Sarah. At 17 and 49, she and I see life from different perspectives. What I appreciate about this song is its simple message: if the good stuff happened ‘overnight’ you wouldn’t understand the value of it. That’s true at any age. Besides, the richest experiences in life are often not what we’ve planned for, but what comes at us sideways when we’re least expecting it.” So you’ve handed in your resignation • Contemplating why nothing turns out right • A little fed up with all the disappointment • So what’s the point in wasting any time •• It’s only temporary • So what’s your hurry • No need to worry don’t you know that If it all just happened overnight • You wouldn’t know how much it means • If it all just happened overnight • You would never learn to believe what you cannot see I feel like my pace is at a standstill • Do I wait ‘till it falls into my hands • A long highway ahead getting started • Steady hearted is what I think I am •• There’s something to be said for experience • Who knows what’s ahead keep on going • Take it a day at a time • One foot in front of the other • Take it a day at a time • No need to hurry • Take it a day at a time • It won’t happen overnight •• Have a little faith • You must appreciate every single day • Don’t give up no Produced by Dan Muckala for Glorified Mono Productions // © 2009 Grant Girls, LLC (admin. by The Loving Company) (ASCAP) / Universal Music – Careers / High Powered Machine Music / Tiltawhirl Music / Audrey Rose Publishing (BMI) // Me and Sarah 1994 Acoustic and Electric Guitars: Adam Lester / Bass: Chuck Butler / Mixed by Dan Muckala / Engineered by Drew Bollman and Dan Muckala / Assistant Engineer: Dan Deurloo / Track Programming and Arranging by Dan Muckala / Recorded at “The House”, Nashville, TN and Glomo Studio, Franklin, TN Every Road no. 3 Amy Grant and Wayne Kirkpatrick “No experience in life is wasted. To write about someone or something, you have to meditate on that person or that idea until the swirl of feelings surrounding it can be expressed in words. I was asking a lot of questions about truth and reality in those last couple of years of my first marriage. With so much uncertainty in my life, music was a safe place to explore the landscape. A lot has changed since then. ...I still like trains.” _____________________ ... _____________________ Tonight I’ve been counting railroad cars • Clinking and grinding into the dark • One of them passed with an open door • And I pictured myself jumping on board • What is the chance of that •• Well I’ve always had this thing about trains • A lonesome sound like a man in pain • Going somewhere they don’t lose track • Some folks leave and they don’t look back • What is the chance of that •• I have believed since I was a little bitty girl • That there were rules of cause and effect • And they slowly shaped my world • But pain and hard times they come and
