New Features on 2nd Generation ® Core™ vPro™ Processor Family

March 7, 2011 — Intel Corporation today rolled out the 2nd Generation Intel® Core™ vPro™ processor family for business and desktop PCs, emphasizing the capabilities made possible by the revolutionary new microarchitecture delivered on Intel’s cutting-edge 32nm process . With their enhanced performance, integrated graphics, security and management, the new Intel Core vPro processors are aimed at reshaping the business computing environment where the videoconference is replacing the conference call, HD videos are the new product brochures, networking is now social networking, work and personal PCs are one in the same and the mobile office is almost the only office. The visibly smart processor family has reached an inflection point where it can provide a no-compromise foundation for innovation and change that meets the needs of businesses of all sizes.

New Capabilities of the 2nd Generation Intel Core vPro processors include:

Intelligent performance for multitasking, HD video, rich collaboration, desktop virtualization … and the future  Intel® Turbo Boost Technology 2.0: Enhanced on the 2nd Generation Intel Core processors, Turbo Boost has been optimized for the new microarchitecture and takes advantage of processor enhancements and improved power sharing between CPU cores and graphics core. Technology boosts processor speeds beyond base levels when needed by the workload.  Enhanced Intel® HD Graphics: One of the built-in visual features included on all 2nd Generation Core vPro processors, it delivers up to three times the performance over previous-generation Intel HD Graphics for a stunning video, according to Intel benchmarking.  Intel® Hyper-Threading Technology: Now available on all 2nd Generation Intel Core vPro processors, this technology enables each processor core to work on two tasks at the same time: a dual-core processor can work on four tasks simultaneously and a four-core processor eight tasks.  Intel® Quick Sync Video: This technology dramatically accelerates office production and distribution of video presentations and content for customers and coworkers, accelerating the speed of converting an HD video.  Intel® Advanced Vector Extension (AVX): A new 256-bit instruction set that builds upon the highly successful SSE4/SIMD instructions, it provides the infrastructure and building blocks for delivering the intensive performance required for applications such as image, video, and audio processing, 3D modeling and analysis, scientific simulation and financial analytics.

Security to help protect the ever more mobile worker  Intel® Anti-Theft Technology 3.0 (AT 3.0): Intel AT 3.0 disables and re-enables a laptop via 3G text messages. It also allows authorized personnel to locate a missing laptop via GPS coordinates. In addition, the new Anti-Theft standby protection feature requires a much more secure login in addition to other passwords when activating a PC from hibernation mode.  Intel® Identity Protection Technology (IPT): Intel IPT, which is integrated into the hardware, provides a new six-digit password every 30 seconds to protect against phishing attacks. It replaces the often-lost wallet cards or key fobs currently used to access enterprise network resources and online accounts.

Simplified vPro Manageability for IT acceleration and cost savings  Host-Based Configuration (HBC): HBC simplifies configuration of Intel vPro technology by completely automating the process. It enables IT to simultaneously configure thousands of PCs at a time.  Enhanced Keyboard Video Mouse Remote Control (KVM): The resolution capabilities of KVM Remote Control have been expanded to encompass HD video and screen formats, allowing an IT administrator to view and operate a remote PC exactly as the user would.  Intel® Core vPro Rollback: To help ensure consistency of management, Intel vPro firmware can be rolled back or migrated forward within the same major firmware version.
