Augusta Park in Bloom 2017 Thank you so much to everyone who entered. We had a new category this year, which was best back garden feature. Who would have thought that Augusta Park had so many hidden wonders in their gardens. We came across fairy gardens, a tropical oasis, wildlife havens, luscious lawns and beautiful borders. It was really tough to choose as they were all winners but well done to Tim and Maxine Wehrle in Tapestry Road who had cleverly placed mirrors around their garden to show off the lines and make it look larger than it was. Beautifully planted with lots of scented flowers, wherever you looked, you could see another part of the garden being reflected. The best front garden was also equally difficult to choose from with heavenly hanging baskets, pretty pots and great planting. This years’ winners were Trudi and Steve Palmer from Olympic Park Road. They had used different colour gravels and pebbles to create a winding path that looked like a river, then planted clumps of different plants with so many colours, it was covered in bees and butterflies. There was also the annual tallest sunflower competition with 2016’s 7 foot 4 inch whopper to beat. This years’ winner were the Xhamela family from Longbarn Road with a massive sunflower measuring 8 foot 6. And not forgetting our scarecrow competition. It was well done to Sharon & Sheila Wenham-McInnes from Harebell Road with their scarecrow of a nun. What a heavenly effort! A big thank you to Paula from the Andover Wyevale Garden Centre for helping with the judging and for supplying prizes. Each winner got a £15 gift card. If you have any feedback or a suggestion on a new category, please feel free to email admin@myaugustapark. org.uk. We’ll be back again in 2018 so start planning now!

Southern Local Centre Primary School You may have noticed work began at the Southern Local Centre Primary School. In September 2017 Endeavour started operating a year R bulge class out of the temporary accomodation on site. The building work for the permanent Primary School has begun, with the expectation that the school will open for the 2018 acadenic year. 12 East Anton Resident Newsletter – Issue 38

East Anton Farm Road Bus Gate The developer has started work on the bus gate outside of Endeavour School. The bus gate has always been a part of the planning consent for the development; however there has been some delay in implementation of the bus priority at this location. When Hampshire County Council adopt the road, the bus gate may become a bus-only route. On completion of the bus gate and associated infrastructure, access to the school car park and the current community centre car park can only be possible from the northern end of East Anton Road. Access to car parking from the southern end of the road will not be possible until the Northen Local Centre is complete. This currently means a diversion for those living south of the school if they want to access the school or the community centre by car. The developer will be installing diversion signs so that residents are aware of which route to take. Pedestrians and cyclists will still be able to access the footpath past the school while work is being completed.

Northern Local Centre I am sure you will have seen that the Northern Local Centre (NLC) is progressing very well. The top section of the NLC will include a new Co-op store together with additional shops and affordable apartments. Completion for this is forecasted to be later 2017. Once the NLC is completed additional parking will be available that you will be able to access from the southern side of the development.

A new care facility is to be provided on the southern section of the NLC. Works commenced in 2016, but stalled due to issues with the contractor. Construction work began recently, with the expected completion to be early 2018. The care facility will be operated by Choice Care and further information is available by visiting the Choice Care website www.choicecaregroup.com

Public consultation on traffic management and parking restrictions An informal public consultation, lasting three weeks, is planned to take place in the autumn for the whole of the Alamein, Winton and St Mary’s wards. Augusta Park is within the Alamein Ward, which means there will be the opportunity for residents to participate in the consultation and contribute their thoughts, raise any concerns and advise the Borough Council on concerns. The submissions at the informal consultation will help to inform the proposals which will be the subject of a similar and statutory consultation later this financial year. Andover News You may have heard that a number of Andover town centre businesses are looking at the possibility of becoming a Business Improvement District. The businesses in the BID area will vote on whether they want a BID to be set up, possibly next spring. A BID is business-owned, led and funded company set up by a democratic ballot. If businesses vote for a BID, it would run for a five-year term before another ballot is needed. The BID is funded by a ‘levy’ and could potentially this could raise more than £1 million during the five year term. The BID board would then use this revenue to support the vitality of Andover town centre and the businesses in it. Any services the BID provided would be strictly in addition to those there already to make local improvements, in addition to the services provided by Andover Town, Test Valley or Hampshire County Councils. Andover Vision is a joint partnership Andover project where local community groups, voluntary organisations, businesses, statutory bodies and most importantly, Vision the public, gave their views on a vision for Andover. Together with the community, an Andover Vision Action Plan drew together this feedback and ideas into a document that will set out what Andover wants to achieve over the next 20 years.
