International sponsors are Rolex (Official Timekeeper), Adecco (Official HR Sponsor) and NH Hotels (Official Hotel). beIN SPORTS is the Official Global Media Rights Partner. CALENDAR DATES Davis Cup has fixed dates in the men’s tennis calendar through 2018, thanks to an understanding between the ITF and ATP. The first two rounds in 2015-16 will be played in March-July due to the long summer which sees an extra week in the summer calendar. DAVIS CUP COMMITMENT AWARD The ITF launched the Davis Cup Commitment Award at the 100th Davis Cup by BNP Paribas Final in Prague in 2012. The award is presented by the ITF to Davis Cup players who have shown long-standing dedication to representing their country in this prestigious competition, with a minimum of 20-home-and-away ties or 50 ties at any level of the competition. The ITF, through its National Associations, will continue to make presentations to award winners at Davis Cup home ties throughout 2015. The full list of the 333 players to have been honoured can be viewed in a dedicated Commitment Award section on the Davis Cup website (www.daviscup.com). HAWK-EYE OFFICIATING SYSTEM Electronic line-calling review has been used in all rounds of the World Group since 2012, and has been extended to the World Group play-offs in 2015. The system is only used on hard and grass courts. ITF COURT PACE RATING The ITF introduced new rules for hard courts in 2008 to prevent the use of extreme court surfaces in Davis Cup. The ITF is able to establish the Court Pace Rating (CPR) of a court by measuring the effect of ball-surface interaction, with the CPR required to be within specific limits for Davis Cup. The ITF tests the CPR at selected hard court ties, with the pace rating category published on the Davis Cup website. There will be testing at this weekend’s ties in Belgium, Great Britain, Dominican Republic, India, Russia and Poland. DEAD RUBBER POLICY A dead rubber policy for all Davis Cup ties has been in place since 2011. If a tie is decided after the fourth rubber, and the fourth rubber lasts at least four sets, the fifth rubber will not be played. This is in response to requests from players, captains and federations, while maintaining the spectator experience on the Sunday. SHOW YOUR COLOURS In 2014 the ITF launched Show Your Colours, a new fan-focused campaign to promote Davis Cup and Fed Cup as the world cups of tennis, and already used by over 60 nations globally. Building on the unique team nature of both competitions, Show Your Colours uses branding elements for promotion, in-stadium activities and all of the ITF’s website and social media activity. DAVIS CUP WEBSITE There are two versions of the official Davis Cup website, in English (www.daviscup.com) and Spanish (www.copadavis.com), plus the Davis Cup TV site www.daviscup.tv. The websites will feature live scoring, a live blog, reports, photographs, audio interviews and live streaming. There will also be a fan zone showing the best social media content on www.daviscup.com/showyourcolours. The websites recorded over 30 million page views in 2014. In addition, the competition’s social media properties in English, Spanish and Chinese have around 500,000 followers. TELEVISION Davis Cup will be broadcast on TV in all four semifinal nations and in all 16 nations contesting the World Group play-offs. Twenty-nine broadcasters will cover the semifinal between Great Britain and Australia. In 2014, there were over 7,500 hours of dedicated Davis Cup TV coverage by 63 broadcasters in over 150 territories worldwide. The ITF has signed a new seven-year strategic media rights partnership with beIN SPORTS for Davis Cup and Fed Cup to increase the global exposure and quality of the coverage of both competitions. ATTENDANCE Over 600,000 spectators attended 82 Davis Cup ties in 2014. This included a record number of spectators for an officially-sanctioned tennis event with a crowd of 27,448 on the Sunday at the Davis Cup Final. ITF DAVIS CUP NATIONS RANKING The new ITF Davis Cup Nations Ranking will be published on Monday 21 September and will include results from the weekend’s ties. The Ranking, which is used for seeding at all levels of the competition, is published on the Monday following every Davis Cup weekend, and based on a nation’s performances in the competition over a four-year period. All competing nations from World Group through to Zone Group IV are ranked. Czech Republic is the current No. 1 nation. .

  • Mardy Fish Named Us Davis Cup Captain
MARDY FISH NAMED U.S. DAVIS CUP CAPTAIN WHITE PLAINS, N.Y., January 9, 2019 – The USTA today announced that former world No. 7 and Davis Cup veteran Mardy Fish has been named the new captain of the U.S. Davis Cup Team. He succeeds Jim Courier to become the 41 st captain in the team’s 120-year history and will make his debut at the newly transformed Davis Cup by BNP Paribas Finals November 18-24 in Madrid, Spain. “Ever since I started playing professionally and started understanding what the Davis Cup was and how special it was, even as a player, I wanted to be the Davis Cup Captain,” Fish said. “I just thought that position was so special – leading the guys and leading the team, building relationships and the team aspect around it. I’m a team-sport athlete stuck in an individual sport, and I love the team aspect of Davis Cup. To even be considered, let alone named the Captain, is incredibly humbling.” In this new era of Davis Cup, the role of Captain will be expanded, with the position working more closely with USTA Player Development throughout the year, as well as traveling to multiple tournaments and camps to support American players, serving as a mentor for American pros and juniors. He will also ensure the U.S. Davis Cup team remains a strong platform to grow the game through the USTA’s Net Generation youth initiative. “Mardy Fish embodies all of the qualities of a successful Davis Cup Captain and will be an invaluable asset to Team USA,” said USTA Chairman of the Board and President Patrick Galbraith.

THIS CONTENT IS A PART OF A FULL BOOK - TENNIS FOR STUDENTS OF MEDICAL UNIVERSITY - SOFIA https://polis-publishers.com/kniga/tenis-rukovodstvo-za-studenti/ A brief history of tennis 1. Origin and development of the game Ball games were popular in ancient Rome and Greece under the name of a spherical "ball game". In the 11 th and 12 th centuries, the games of "Jacko del Palone" and "Jaco de la Corda" were mentioned, which resembled modern tennis (Todorov 2010; Mashka, Shaffarjik 1989). In the 14 th century, outdoor and indoor courts started to be built in France, where the game of "court – tennis" was played, which was later renamed "palm game", that, dependent on being played inside or outside, was called "short tennis" and " long tennis" (Penchev 1989). Antonio Scaino da Salò’s book "Treatise on the game of the ball" (1555) describes the game instruments - a racquet and a ball - a tight ball of wool, wrapped in leather. It was struck with the palm of the hand, wrapped in a leather belt and a wooden case. A glove was used as well to protect against pain and traumas (Mashka, Shaffarjik 1989). The "court - tennis" game became popular predominantly amongst the nobles in Europe under the name of "Jeu de paume" – palm game, played both indoors and outdoors. “Mirabo” hall, part of the famous Versailles Palace that was transformed at that time by the Sun King - Louis XIV into a main residence of the French kings, exists to this day and had served for that purpose. • PRESS RELEASE 7 August 2014 Decision of the Davis Cup
PRESS RELEASE 7 August 2014 Decision of the Davis Cup Committee regarding venue for Israel v Argentina The ITF's Davis Cup Committee has unanimously agreed that, due to concerns arising from the military conflict between Israel and Hamas, it is not advisable at this time for Israel to host Argentina in their Davis Cup by BNP Paribas World Group play-off tie, scheduled for 12-14 September at the Nokia Arena in Tel Aviv. The Committee considered several factors in making their decision including a report from the ITF’s independent risk assessment firm, Control Risks, and decisions by other sports about competing in Israel. The Committee determined that, while the military conflict seemed to be slowing down, there was no certainty that this would be the case at the time of the tie that is due to take place in five weeks. The Committee felt that its first priority was to ensure the safety of the players, officials and the public and regretfully decided that the tie would not be held in Israel as originally scheduled. Israel now has the option to nominate a neutral venue. As per Davis Cup Regulations 27 e (i), (ii) (a), (ii) (b) (Page 13 of the 2014 Regulations): If Israel chooses to play in a neutral venue, the Israeli Tennis Association has five working days to file a full completed application to the Davis Cup Committee for approval. Israel will be considered the home nation for the purposes of the conduct and financial arrangements of this tie and shall have the right to choice of ball and the surface of the court.
