Jesus makes that perfectly clear in the gospel today. Jesus asks who people say that he is, and then he asks them who they say he is. Peter gets it right, he responds, “The Christ of God.” They understand Jesus to be the long awaited messiah, the Christ, the anointed, the promised one. Such hope they have in him. But contrary to their expectations Jesus tells them: “The Son of Man must suffer greatly and be re- jected by the elders, chief priests, and “Nothing and no the scribes, and be killed and on the third day be raised.” one is left out of That must have thrown them. Happy Father’s Day! In Christ’s love, Worship Commission A Father's Day Prayer Let us praise those fathers who have striven to balance the demands of work, marriage, and children with an honest awareness of both joy and sacrifice. Let us praise those fathers who, lacking a good model for a father, have worked to become a good father. Let us praise those fathers who by their own ac- count were not always there for their children, but who continue to offer those children, now grown, their love and support. Let us pray for those fathers who have been wounded by the neglect and hostility of their children. Let us praise those fathers who, despite divorce, have remained in their children's lives. Let us praise those fathers whose children are adopted, and whose love and support has offered healing. Let us praise those fathers who, as stepfathers, th freely choose the obligation of fatherhood and 12 Sunday in Ordinary Time earned their step children's love and respect.
