AAS journals news

We are proud to announce that, beginning in January 2009, we will publish two more titles on behalf of the American Astronomical Society (AAS): The Astrophysical Journal and The Astrophysical Journal Supplement Series. These titles are in addition to The Astronomical Journal, which has been available from IOP since 2008. As learned societies and professional bodies, IOP and the AAS have a shared value of service to their scientific communities. We are excited to be able to add these prestigious journals to our publishing programme. Please note that, in 2009, all orders for AAS titles must be placed through our UK Head Office. See p51 for contact details and p9 for subscription information.

IOP Publishing Journals 2009 43 Impact Factors

IOP journals have once again received excellent Impact Factor results released by ISI, showing continued growth in citations. This year, 30 of our titles have seen an increase in citations compared with last year and, for the first time ever, 20% of our titles now have impact factors of more than 3.000. This success reflects the quality and visibility of IOP journals and it shows that researchers who publish with us are in the right place to be cited by their peers.

Some of our best-performing journals this year include: • Journal of Physics G: Nuclear and Particle Physics: 3.485, up by a massive 96% and now the highest ranked original research journal in the “physics, nuclear” category; • Superconductor Science and Technology: 2.547, up by 77%; • Inverse Problems: 1.854 , up by 41%; • Physical Biology, Plasma Physics and Controlled Fusion and Journal of Physics G: Nuclear and Particle Physics: all more than 3.000 for the first time.

Journals published by IOP in conjunction with partner organizations have also seen significant growth in citations: • The Astronomical Journal, published by IOP on behalf of the American Astronomical Society: 5.019, up by 3%; • Nuclear Fusion, co-published with the International Atomic Energy Agency: 3.278, up by 15%; • Chinese Physics (now Chinese Physics B), published on behalf of the Chinese Physical Society: 2.103, up by 40%.
