Our theme for the conference this year – “The Reality of Purple: Navigating Health Policy in Colorado” – could not be more timely. In the wake of November’s election, we are seeing change at the state capitol and in Washington. With this in mind, it is the perfect time to bring together lawmakers, both new and veteran, with health policy experts from across the state. There are important conversations to have about health policy. Our goal for Hot Issues in Health Care is to help start the discussions here and to support them going forward with evidence-based information. This is our seventh Hot Issues in Health Care conference. But this year is different, and we are excited about the new format. While Day One is still focused on legislators, we have invited members of Colorado’s health policy community to Day Two. More than 150 have accepted our invitation. We expect a rich dialogue and abundant networking opportunities. Thank you for joining us. It is my great hope that you are able to forge new connections and gain knowledge that is valuable for your work. Sincerely, Michele Lueck President and CEO Colorado Health Institute 2014 HOT ISSUES IN HEALTH CARE Conference Agenda Thursday, December 4: Legislators 7:00 a.m.-9:00 a.m. 10:30 a.m. 1:15 p.m. Breakfast Networking Break Breakout Sessions: How Do Your Mountain View Dining Room Constituents Get Insurance? 10:45 a.m. (Choose One) 7:30 a.m.-9:30 a.m. Keynote Address Registration Tension and Opportunity: Policy 101 Centennial Foyer Federalism and the Future Medicaid, Marketplace and More: of State Health Policy How Coloradans Get Health Insurance 9:30 a.m. Stuart Butler, Ph.D., Senior Fellow, Tamara Keeney, Research Analyst, Welcome Brookings Institution Colorado Health Institute Michele Lueck, President and CEO, Centennial I Natalie Triedman, Research Analyst, Colorado Health Institute Content: Dr. Butler, an expert Colorado Health Institute Centennial I in domestic policy and health Centennial II economics, will share his Content: This introduction to health coverage in 10:00 a.m. perspective on the proper role Colorado examines private health insurance like Just When You Thought between the federal government employer-sponsored and individual insurance, as well Things Were Settled: and the states and explore as publicly funded programs, including Medicaid, An Insider’s Take on Where strategies for cost control.
