Notre Dame College Prep, a Roman Catholic secondary level college preparatory school, has educated more than 12,000 young men since its founding in 1954. Located in Niles, , on 28 wooded acres, Notre Dame currently enrolls over 830 students. Our students come from Chicago and 29 different suburban townships. Notre Dame’s approach to education is holistic. We educate and form minds, bodies and souls.

Notre Dame partners with parents and families in challenging our students with our college prep program. Individual attention is provided to each young man throughout his formative years at Notre Dame. Our goal is to prepare him not only for college, but for life. Our students grow in wisdom as well as knowledge: in faith, in values, and in morality. Notre Dame’s partnership with our families begins with their sons’ first day of high school, and it lasts for their lifetimes. Notre Dame College Prep:

On September 1, 1954, Notre Dame College Prep was born. Samuel Cardinal Stritch, the Catholic Archbishop of Chicago, and priests from the Congregation of Holy Cross from South Bend, Indiana, broke ground in Niles, Illinois. Priests and Brothers of the Congregation of Holy Cross expanded their educational ministry in the Archdiocese considerably with this new endeavor. Holy Trinity High School in Chicago and Holy Cross High School in River Grove were also secondary schools sponsored by the Holy Cross Priests and Brothers. Mission Under the patronage of Mary, the Mother of God, Notre Dame College Prep is a college preparatory school committed to educating young men within a Christ-centered and family-based community. We cherish and respect each individual. Our values are Gospel based. In our Catholic tradition, and faithful to the spirit of our Holy Cross founders, we endeavor to inspire life-long learners, committed to scholarship, to personal excellence, and to social justice.

Ownership Ownership of Notre Dame College Prep now rests in an independent two-tiered Board comprised of Notre Dame alumni, parents, educators and Catholic leaders from the larger community of the Archdiocese of Chicago. The top tier, the Executive Board, partners with representatives of the Archdiocese of Chicago to ensure the Catholicity of our school. The Executive Board appoints members to the Governance Board. This second-tiered assembly oversees the daily operations of the school. Our character, charism, and heritage, formed by the Congregation of Holy Cross, remain appreciated and strong.

Life Prep Notre Dame partners with each student and his family to provide a challenging college preparatory academic program. Our goal is to prepare each Notre Dame man for academic success in college. We are equally committed to preparing each student in his spiritual life, in his moral life, and in his behavioral life.

Personal The Personal Growth Plan is developing under the direction of the Counseling Center, Growth Plan the Principal’s Office, and the President’s Office. Notre Dame will help each student to create an individual plan for his high school career. His development at Notre Dame, maximizing his unique qualities, utilizing his special interests and needs, and building on his particular values and goals, will be measured and evaluated regularly. At the beginning of his first year, each student and his family will meet with counselors to formulate his Plan, thereby establishing his unique path to success. President Father Smyth

Leading The Executive Board of Notre Dame College Prep named Father John P. Smyth by Example: the school’s first president under its new governance structure on March 1, 2007. A Chicago native, Father Smyth is a graduate of the and the University of St. Mary of the Lake/Mundelein Seminary.Widely regarded as one of the top fundraisers in the Chicagoland area, Fr. Smyth has also dedicated much of his life to the education of the area’s youth.

Thoughts from “With blessings from Our Lady, we will guide our student body by enlightening Father Smyth: their minds and enhancing their spirits so that when they walk out the doors into the world upon graduation, they will possess the qualities for success in the path of their choice with a full appreciation of not only what they have received and achieved at Notre Dame College Prep, but also what they may return to the community and society as a whole.” By the time they graduate, Notre Dame students will have given a total of at least 115 hours in programs serving their school, parish and community.

Faith & Service As part of our Christian Service Learning Program, students attend monthly Mass, study the Catholic faith in the classroom, experience the sacraments of Eucharist and Reconciliation, make an annual retreat and serve the local community.

Retreats & Kairos Notre Dame’s four-year retreat program is designed to help our students develop a mature faith that can augment a solid academic foundation with a real desire to deepen one’s faith and relationship with God. During Kairos, the culminating four- day faith experience for our senior Dons, young men discover how God is present and working in their lives, especially among family, friends and others with whom they interact on a daily basis. They will learn the importance of sharing their gifts with others and becoming leaders in their faith.

College Prep Notre Dame is a college preparatory high school. The instructional program has distinct levels of challenge: Honors, College Prep Core, and the Brother Andre Program (for students needing additional learning assistance). Each level is geared to prepare our students for college admission. Rigorous courses of study are designed to meet the educational needs of our diverse student body and are tailored to provide challenging educational experiences for our students.

Student Profiles

Matt Moser Senior, Niles Grammar School: St. John Brebeuf

Why did I choose Notre Dame?: “I chose Notre Dame to pursue my high school education for many reasons. The first of these was that I knew several kids from my school, as well as other schools, who were also planning on attending ND. I knew these kids mostly from the camps that I had been going to since I was in the fourth grade. These camps were also a big influence on me because they gave me an opportunity to become familiar with Notre Dame. Once I shadowed ND, I knew that it was the place for me. The atmosphere of the school was awesome. I knew that I wanted to be a part of that.”

What do I like most about Notre Dame?: “ There are many things that I like about Notre Dame. One of the great things about ND is its size. Notre Dame is big enough to be competitive with other top schools in the classroom as well as in sports. At the same time, it is small enough that each student has the opportunity to know everyone in his class as well as the teachers. My other favorite aspect of ND is the school spirit. The student body at ND is like a brotherhood, which makes it a great place to be. There is great school spirit in everything that is done at the school, whether it is a dress down day, a pep rally, a sporting event, or anything else. I think that the school spirit at Notre Dame really sets us apart from other schools.“

Sam Bungum Senior, Park Ridge Grammar School: Emerson School

Why did you choose Notre Dame?: “I chose Notre Dame because I had heard only positive things about the school from friends and ND students. When I went for my shadow day I was a little nervous but I quickly felt at home because the students treated me like “one of the guys” and the environment of brotherhood that surrounded me sealed the deal.”

What do you like most about Notre Dame?: “ Going to Notre Dame has been the best decision of my life so far. Its wide range of extracurricular activities have been perfectly suited for my many interests in all areas including academics, music, and sports. I love going to school every day because I know that even though my classes are tough, I will always have fun and I am surrounded by 800-plus Dons that are going through the same things. Notre Dame’s size has allowed me to get extra help whenever I have needed it. Notre Dame is truly a family like no other and I am grateful for the opportunities I have been given at ND.”

Vance Ross Senior, Evanston Grammar School: King Lab

Why did you choose Notre Dame?: “The reason I chose Notre Dame as a high school is because of all the great things it has to offer. This place has really changed me drastically and made me a better person.”

What dID you like most about Notre Dame?: “ I like how everyone here treats each other as equals. There is definitely a family environment feeling in the building. There is no place like Notre Dame. The teachers are great and they are here any time you need them. The coaches are also great and they are always trying to make you a better athlete and a better person. Everyone at Notre Dame wants to see you succeed in anything you do.” Fine Arts

At Notre Dame, we offer a variety of Art opportunities so students can experience the aesthetic qualities of the arts. The Fine Arts curriculum includes classes in Music, Art and Drama. Each spring, the Fine Arts Department holds a Fine Arts Festival to showcase students’ talents. There are a variety of Art classes available in Notre Dame’s spacious Art Studio. These include Introduction to Art, Art Traditions, AP Art History, Art 1, 2-D Drawing and 3-D Drawing.

The mission of Notre Dame is to assist each individual with the integration of faith, scholarship and culture.
