A special attention will be given to the safety culture in nuclear and associated issues – education in safety culture, application of knowledge and skills of safety culture, self- assessment, and policy to improve the safety culture. It is expecting the Kozloduy NPP experts to present their experience in self-assessment study as well as new courses and approaches of EC CORONA international project for safety culture in various applications of nuclear methods and technology.

Safety culture is a replica of the culture of the individual. What are the leading elements that could impact on safety culture level, and how we have to orient the education policy – on this we would like to focus our attention.

The educational policy is a key element in the building of public engagement/acceptance toward nuclear applications including energy production.

25 Years of BgNS

• BgNS is founded 25 year ago, in 1991. Members of BgNS are more than 400 individuals and 12 organizations which subject of activities is nuclear science and application for peaceful purposes. • One of the main challenges to the nuclear community is the very complicate and difficult for solving case – the education of students and training of young specialists together preservation and transfer of nuclear knowledge is compounded by recent trends such as ageing of the nuclear workforce, declining student numbers in nuclear related fields, and the threat of losing accumulated nuclear knowledge. The activities of the Bulgarian Nuclear Society are targeted to  Making accessible the knowledge for application of nuclear science and technologies with purpose to improve quality of life.  Achieving new way of thinking of general public – trust and support towards the use of nuclear energy.  Partnership in the fields of nuclear science and practice with the society through governmental institutions, education and business organizations, NGOs etc.

BgNS conference 2009, • Bulgarian Young Generation Association of BgNS was set up on 1999. It encompasses nuclear professionals who are below the age of 36. The number of members are more than 200.

Association WiN-Bulgaria was established in 1996. Later it It is a member of the International Organization WIN–Global (Women In Nuclear).More than 50 women from the Kozloduy NPP, Bulgarian Academy of Science and many other companies, are members of WiN-Bulgaria.

The BgNS TRANSACTIONS is a science and technology journal, issued since May 1996. Up to now are printed 20 volumes. The journal is distributed to the National Library, the Bulgarian Academy of Science, paper’ authors, BgNS members. It is available for international exchange. •BgNS conferences BgNS conferences which main aim is to spread the nuclear science and technology knowledge and achievements have been carried out from 1994 - height events till 2004, and eleven till 2015, every year. “Nuclear energy for the people” is the base title of the conference from 2015. A competition for a best presentation of young specialist has been organized from 2005 every year. In this relation and after so many years’ experience we can said that the competition is a good approach for young contestants to carry out valuable projects, to ask better form for their presentation and by this way to feel themselves more important and needed in the society. The conference provides a common forum to academic and industrial experts to present and discuss the news and problems concerning nuclear technology, nuclear safety, nuclear culture as well as nuclear applications in medicine. The conferences by its press-releases, briefings, and open letters based on conference’ conclusions try to provoke the interest of the general public to achievements and uses of nuclear science and technologies.
