SESSION TWO: • Deeper dive into the 3ds Max modeling toolset, focusing on the Editable Poly Modifier • Discussion on Mesh Topology and how it impacts form and shape of the 3D model • Tutorial 2: Applying polygonal modeling and mesh smoothing modifiers to complete the 3D character started in Session One SESSION THREE: • Rendering bootcamp – Overview of the theoretical aspects of traditional rendering techniques such as raytracing and global illumination • Overview of Chaosgroup’s Vray Rendering Engine • Fundamental material creation and lighting techniques in Vray • Tutorial 3: Applying finishes and lighting to the Minion and rendering it in a high-resolution image format

YOU WILL LEARN TO: • navigate the 3ds Max interface and viewports • customize Units, Viewport Layouts and Display Options • select and manipulate objects using basic transform and precision controls, and understand pivots / reference coordinate systems • model a 3D character model using the Editable Poly Modifier and Mesh Smoothing Modifiers • manipulate mesh topology to control shape / form of your 3D models • use the Vray Rendering Engine to create a HDRI based lighting setup and apply PBR materials to your character model • learn keyboard shortcuts and other techniques to speed up your workflow

ABOUT THIS WORKSHOP: STEP INTO THE WORLD OF 3D RENDERING Are you fascinated by the technology used to create the rich imagery in animated movies like Toy Story, or WALL-E? Or maybe you are a gamer who aspires to join a leading game development studio as a game designer? If so, this workshop is for you. These media have one thing in common – (CG), or 3D rendering and animation. It is likely that much of the content you appreciated in these media was developed in the tool of the trade, . This workshop will provide the foundations to start exploring the vast industry of 3D rendering and animation through Autodesk’s 3ds Max. Through step-by-step tutorials, you will be introduced to the core feature set of this industry-standard tool, with a focus on workflows that apply to a broad range of fields within the industry, including character design, game design, product design, and even architectural visualization.
