Issues and Way Forward / Future Strategies In view of the Geographical / Hydrogeological condition in Bundelkhand there is scarcity of Ground water sources. In this region due to scanty rainfall, availability of surface water reduces along with ground water. Females of this region spend maximum time in collection / arrangement of drinking water due to insufficient availability of the drinking water. In summer due to fall in groundwater level hand pumps get dried which further aggravates the situation related with health and hamper allied economic activities. In Bundelkhand region Old traditional system for conservation of rain water have disappeared / diminished due to which conservation and ground water recharge activities have been affected. To resolve the drinking water crisis viewing above problems, in Bundelkhand region following action are required  Optimum utilization of groundwater sources in Bundelkhand Region being not reliable and sustainable.  Primarily Groundwater sources should be utilized only for drinking purposes.  Most of the region should be covered through Pipe water supply based on surface water sources.  Effective adoption of catchment area based Watershed management for ground water recharge and rejuvenation of the rivers , through construction of various rain water harvesting and recharge structures like Check dam, Tank, Ponds and dug wells. Future Projects All gram panchayats of Bundelkhand region are proposed to be covered by Pipe water supply based schemes through State Govt fund / aid in next two years. Estimated cost of proposed project is 10393.84 crore. There is proposal of the surface water based drinking water supply schemes in Chitrakoot, Jhansi, Mahoba, Lalitpur in view of ground water scarcity and in other districts where sufficient ground water resources are available , Groundwater based schemes are proposed District Proposed Coverage Proposed No of PWS Cost of Project Revenue Population Surface GW (In Cr. ) Village Based
