    Waverley College Sports Policy 2009 The purpose of this document is to: * outline the sport / activity policy for students and parents * give parents a clear understanding of what is required of their sons Waverley College is a member of the Combined Associated Schools (CAS) of New South Wales. There are currently six schools in this Association: Barker College, Hornsby Cranbrook School, Bellevue Hill Knox Grammar School, Turramurra St Aloysius College, Milsons Point Trinity Grammar School, Summer Hill Waverley College, Waverley The CAS is essentially a sporting organisation. Our competition is played with the other schools of the Association. However, for trials and other games, Waverley does play schools outside the Association. It is common to play schools from the GPS, ISA, CHS and other school groups. As you would already be aware, your son’s involvement in the co-curricular activities at Waverley College is an integral part of the philosophy of the school. There are many roles that co-curricular activities fulfil, including: i) team style activities help to develop discipline both on and off the field ii) to attain and enhance skills in particular sports iii) to represent the College in inter-school sport iv) to develop physically and socially v) to learn how to be part of a group effort vi) to have significant contact with teachers in an informal situation vii) to enable parents, students and teachers to meet and work together Every student is to participate in at least one summer and one winter sport as a minimum requirement. The College has an outstanding history and strong success in sports activities.

    RUGBY ACADEMY Position Specific Skill Sessions After a good start to 2019 following our February clinics we are back on again for our Mid-Season block. As usual, we are covering ALL POSITIONS. During February we had almost 350 boys participate in each of our three sessions. The kids came from Toowoomba, Northern NSW, Gold Coast, Sunshine Coast along with GPS (8 schools) and AIC (7 schools). As a group of past players, we are passionate about passing the skills onto the kids of the future and ennsuring they can reach their potential and learn to love the game. We have a tremendous group of coaches on our rotating panel who all have a wealth of experience playing at the top levels of the game.     Nathan Sharpe Former Wallaby captain and Rugby Union legend Rugby Union legend Nathan ‘Sharpie’ Sharpe is one of Australia’s most decorated rugby players. When he retired as captain of the Wallabies in 2012 he was Australia’s most-capped forward with 116 tests and the second most-capped player ever. His durability saw him become the most-capped player in Super Rugby history with 154 games for the Queensland Reds and Western Force. Nathan played in three Rugby World Cup campaigns. In his final year of international rugby in 2012, he was awarded, for the second time, the prestigious John Eales Medal, for Wallaby Player of the Year. With his long list of distinctions and awards, Nathan Sharpe has left an indelible impression on the game. While his presence on the field will be missed, Nathan continues to influence and inspire others off the field. Not only was Nathan has been actively involved in the world of Rugby Union for fifteen years but he was also actively involved in the media and, as a result, has developed powerful communication skills and expert people management skills during this time. Nathan presents to business, sporting and other clients on any number of team-orientated discussions. Hamilton City Council announced it had secured the game just days after the Kiwis won the World Cup for the first time by stunning Australia 34-20 at Brisbane's Suncorp Stadium. With so many of the World Cup players involved in the preseason trial, it looks set to be a tough re-match when the two trans-Tasman teams meet. Rugby league to kick off anti-homophobia campaign: As one of the world's toughest sports, rugby league is more usually associated with northern machismo and cauliflower ears than gay rights. But the Rugby Football League (RFL) has just become the first national governing body of a major sport to sign up to Stonewall's campaign against homophobia. The sport has joined the group's diversity champions programme, which promotes lesbian, gay and bisexual equality. Endacott had good vibrations about Kiwis: A WEEK with the Kiwis in Palmerston North on the eve of the World Cup was enough to give former national coach Frank Endacott a feeling "something special" was in the offing. Endacott was a technical adviser for the All Golds ahead of their hit-out with the New Zealand Maori last month.
