June 21, 2017 Dear GFWC Clubwomen,

In just a few short weeks, we will begin preparing for our new club year. A crucial part of this planning is the State Institute and Board Meeting, which will be held August 19-20 at the Center for Continuing Education & Hotel in Athens. The theme for this year's Institute is “Be Part of Something Bigger Than Yourself: GFWC Georgia.” I encourage as many members as possible to attend, as this meeting promises to offer something for every club woman. And because variety keeps our members engaged, we have worked to make this Institute different from last year’s version. The weekend will begin on Friday, with our annual LEADS Seminar, a unique leadership training program open to all club women. Please see the enclosed flyer for more information on LEADS and how to participate. On Saturday, we will have general sessions on GFWC’s Signature Program (and my State President’s special project), Domestic Violence Awareness and Prevention; Legislation; and Reporting. The sessions on DVAP and Legislation will feature a number of outside speakers, while the Reporting session will feature examples of winning reports from each of the six CSPs and will walk members through how to put together a report. Breakout sessions will include a training workshop on Excel to enable clubs to track things such as individual membership information, project hours, and donations. There will also be special workshops for Club Presidents, Secretaries, Treasurers, and Parliamentary Advisors, as well as workshops on Membership, Leadership, Tallulah Falls School, Advocates for Children, and the special project of GFWC Georgia’s Junior Director, Ovarian Cancer Awareness. At this time, plans are also being made for a hands-on workshop on the use of social media. Saturday night we will hold the GFWC Georgia State Board Meeting, at which every club president (or her alternate) has a vote. The evening will also feature a report on the GFWC 2017 International Convention, an update from Tallulah Falls School, and we hope to have a guest speaker from GFWC. On Sunday morning, we will have a buffet breakfast and the business meeting of the Junior Conference. There are two deadlines that I would like to emphasize. First, the deadline for hotel reservations is JULY 20, so please reserve as soon as possible. Neither rates nor room availability can be guaranteed after that date. Reservations can be made online by clicking on the link included with this Call. Alternatively, you can make your reservation by phone at 800-884-1381. Let the reservations agent know you are with GFWC Georgia, and provide them with our room block code: 87981. The deadline for registering for Institute is August 4. Anyone registering after that date will be charged a $25 late fee. Additionally, no meals may be purchased after August 13. I look forward to seeing you in Athens in August.

Yours in Federation,

At Institute this year we are asking everyone to bring items for Emergency Boxes for women who are victims of Domestic Violence. Many times a woman calls the shelter at 3am and unfortunately the shelter is full. The shelter instead places her at a local hotel for the night. The shelter provides her with an Emergency Box to get her through the night. Our goal is to create Emergency Boxes for these victims. And so that we do not get 1000 jars of peanut butter, we have divided up the items by district. Please bring your items to the Mahler Hall on Saturday at Institute, there will be totes for you to place your items in. If you are in Central West district you bring combs, hairbrushes and toothbrushes/toothpaste. If you are in Central East district you bring individual packs of snack crackers, fruit cups, pudding. If you are in the South East district you bring the plastic shoe boxes (Dollar Tree) bottled water, note cards that everyone can write a note of love and prayer and we can put those in the boxes as well. If you are in the South West district you bring individual packs of cereal and small packs of canned tuna and crackers. If you are in the North East district you bring individual packs of peanut butter and saltines and socks. If you are in the North West district you bring washcloths and soap and paper napkins wrapped around a plastic fork/spoon/knife. If you would rather donate money and then we can buy supplemental items- please feel free to mail a check made payable to GFWC Georgia, and mail it to the state office at GFWC Georgia, 900 School Road, Tallulah Falls, Georgia 30573– noting the donation is for the President Special Project- Domestic Violence Awareness Project. We also have a line where you can donate to this collection on the online registration form. THANK YOU for your support and devotion to helping victims of Domestic Violence.
