Volume 34, Issue 04 From The Commodore

April 1st signals many things in my mind. Of course, it is April fool’s day; however it is also the start of the baseball season, my birthday, the start of warm days with plenty of Regular Columns: sun, the end of winter, end of the ski season, start of spring, opening day on the lake and MOST IMPORTANTLY the start of the season. Over the next three weeks our club will be setting sail and all hands will be on deck for the upcoming year as the • From the Catalina 22 Nationals return to our lake the week after the regatta. Commodore This year we’re trying to make a few • Minutes 2 changes to the registration process for the regatta. Janis was able to • Club Notices 3 redesign the registration form as you may have seen on the website or in • Trivia 3 this issue of the Dinghy. It has a very clean look and it now fits on 8 x • Events 4 10 paper. The next time you see her

give her a big thank you! One of the • Classifieds 5 most important fixes she made included a format allowing each skipper to total up registration costs.

Janis will also be receiving registration for the regatta over the next few months. Last year, most of our regatta registrations rolled in just prior to the regatta. Our registration process is twofold; we are totaling up racing registration as well as regatta preorders including dinner, breakfast and raffle tickets. We would really like to encourage the club membership to preorder dinner and t-shirts as soon as possible so that we can have a Individual better idea of the numbers. Please encourage friends or family who may join you at dinner and/or take part in any of the regatta activities to preorder. The weekend is Highlights: always loaded with fun for everyone.

Opening Day! 3 An important event on this month’s GCYC calendar is April 21st for the club Work Party and opening weekend festivities. We’ll be sprucing up the clubhouse as well as making 2012 Regattas 4 a “SPLASH” with our boats in the afternoon. The work party usually gets into full action by 10 AM in the morning and we’ll wind down around lunchtime. Last year a few sailors GFTG Regatta Information 6 put their boats on the water in the afternoon. If the weather cooperates we may put together an afternoon BBQ. Sunday the 22nd is our first club race. GFTG Regatta Registration 7 See you up at the lake!

The 94th Annual Opening Day on the Bay Decorated Boat Parade and Celebration, hosted by Pacific Inter-Club Yacht Association will be held Sunday April 29, 2012.

Pacific Inter-Club Yacht Association (PICYA), representing over 100 yacht clubs in Northern California celebrates the official beginning of the new boating season on San Francisco Bay. This year’s theme is “American Spirit.” The parade will feature over 120 historic workboats, fireboats, Vessel Assist towboats, classic and contemporary craft decorated to the theme. There will be both power and sail boats competing for best decoration honors.

Those seeking a front row seat of the decorated boats can join the Officers, Directors and guests of PICYA on the ‘Californian,’ one of the Hornblower’s largest yachts on San Francisco Bay, with a light breakfast and a gourmet lunch. This yacht is open to the public and can seat 300 people. See picya.org for more info.

What we are seeking are donations for the decorated boat contest. The type of donations/prizes we seek are: dinners for two at one of your events, tickets for two to an event sponsored by your company or organization, wine, yacht club related sports apparel, boating items or any other promotional items that your marketing staff may think appropriate.

You could also consider being a sponsor, which has various levels. Some businesses have chosen both, to give a donation and be a sponsor. You would support one of the largest events on San Francisco Bay, promote your business, be an active participant in PIYCA’s Signature Event - Opening Day, display your business literature on the Committee Boat and be recognized at Delegate Meetings and in other programs. Please contact us for more information. With the America’s Cup arriving, the San Francisco Bay is going to be the place to be!
