Life Expectancy The 6 areas of Possilpark, Milton West, Keppochhill, Maryhill East, Woodside and record the worst male life expectancy in the North West sector.

Possilpark, Milton West, Keppochhill, Maryhill East and Maryhill West record both male and female life expectancy that is amongst the worst in North West sector.

Milton West, Woodside and record very poor male life expectancy, but have female life expectancy rates that are closer to the North West average

Milton East has very poor female life expectancy – but male life expectancy is closer to the North West average.

Summerston Central and West records the best female life expectancy for the locality ( and records the second best figure for North West sector as a whole) – but male life expectancy is below the sector average.

Kelvindale is the only area in Maryhill, Kelvin and Canal locality that records better than average (both North West and Scottish average) multiple hospital admissions for older people aged 65+. All other areas are worse than average.

6 Mental Health Summerston Central and West has a high rate of patients who have been prescribed drugs for anxiety/depression but a low rate of patients admitted to psychiatric hospital.

Kelvindale has a significantly lower rate of psychiatric admissions than any other area in the locality. Keppochhill has a rate that is 8 times that of Kelvindale

Nine localities have a suicide rate above the North West average (which is significantly higher than the Scottish average)

7 Child health 10 of the 16 areas in the locality are above the North West sector average for rates of women smoking during pregnancy. Only North Kelvin, Anniesland East and Kelvindale record rates below the Scottish average.

Generally the Maryhill Kelvin and Canal locality records poor rates of breastfeeding. However while this locality records some of the lowest figures for the sector, it also records amongst the highest rates (in Kelvindale and North Kelvin).

Ruchill records a relatively high rate of smoking in pregnancy – but also a better than average rate of breastfeeding, (perhaps contrary to expectations). Firhill is an area that records poorly on many measures – but is well above average for breastfeeding

Maryhill Kelvin and Canal locality records good results in relation to child vaccination programmes. The majority of the area exceeds the average for North West sector. Notably it is areas of deprivation, which in general perform poorly in other health measures that perform best for childhood vaccination.

Summerston Central and West, Keppochhill, Maryhill East and Milton West record rates better than the Scottish average for both MMR and immunisation excluding MMR.

9 Child Oral Health The Locality performs poorly in relation to the results of NDIP inspections of children in primary 1. Several areas are below both the North West Sector and the Scottish average - and in 8 areas the majority of children show signs of tooth decay.

These figures were collected in 2009. Recent figures suggest improvements – especially figures from pre-school inspections that will hopefully follow through into primary school.

The figure for children hospitalised through unintentional injury at home is surprisingly low for Possilpark.
