FISH SURVEY RESULTS AND PRIZE DRAW The winner of the first prize is Jon Tomori and the winner of the second prize is Kevin Matthews. In the spring of 2019, LWHCA and WFN (Wahnapitae First Nation) embarked on a study to provide some information to lake residents and users about the age of fish being caught in the lake. For a summary of the study, including the ages of the fish, please go to the following link: http://lwhca.com/fish-survey-draw/ INTERNET NEWS We have been advised that there will be developments to improve internet service in our area. Net Spectrum has been working with us to increase their present output from the north shore tower and have been negotiating with the City for another access point. Once the funding has been received from the government, work will be continued. - Dorothy Gallinger

MEMBERSHIP

We have had a successful membership year in spite of our Covid 19 pandemic. Memberships were purchased on line for both new and renewing members. We did not participate with face to face gatherings. Our total membership has 240 names, of which there are only 58 past members who have not renewed. Information on how to renew is on the LWHCA site.

Many thanks to those who renewed and those who became new members. Hope you participate in our benefits from some of our sponsors, the septic draw and social events.

Illegal Dumping - Situation Appears to be Getting Worse Several members have commented that incidents of illegal dumping of trash and debris in forested areas around Lake Wahnapitae appear to have increased significantly. The LWHCA’s Stewardship Committee also believes that this is the case and we have been looking to see what we might be able to do to discourage such irresponsible behaviour. We contacted the local office of Crime Stoppers to see if we could coordinate an anti-dumping initiative with them. It turns out that we are not the first to notice an increase in illegal dumping. In fact, they informed us that they had been contacted recently by two other organizations with similar concerns. We are happy to report that the LWHCA and Crime Stoppers will initiate a pilot project to post signs at several problem areas around Lake Wahnapitae. Over the winter, the proposed design of the signs will be completed, and the fabrication of new LWHCA/ Crime Stoppers signage will be ready for installation come early spring. Their message will be clear:

Illegal Dumping is a Crime

See it. Report It

Call Crime Stoppers @ 1-800 -XXX-XXXX

As an additional measure to discourage those who have no respect for our wilderness, the LWHCA has also approved funding for a few trail cameras that we will use to monitor illegal dumping. If you know of a site that is frequently used for illegal dumping that might be considered for our LWHCA/Crime Stoppers signage, contact us at: [email protected] Dan Picard, Stewardship

Treasurer's Message:

Thanks to our Directors, members, sponsors and volunteers, our Association has maintained its healthy budget track given the extraordinary unfolding events of 2020. Membership renewal reached an all-time high and sponsor support continues to be very generous during these strained times. This year, we have more than doubled member contest prizes. We continue to monitor Federal guidelines in the hopes of holding fireworks at our lake soon. You will notice new lake and community posters in an effort to keep our surroundings green. Volunteers have maintained and increased the number of shoal markers for our member and water craft safety and enjoyment.

In keeping with our strategic plan, the Board has begun a review of our governance documents and by- laws. The results of this activity will be presented to the membership for adoption at our next General Meeting (GM) this coming spring.

Overall, the LWHCA financial snapshot finds us in good standing. Budget reporting reflects our Association expenditures and revenues nearing the end of the third quarter (Q3). We've realigned and adjusted reporting to better represent our activities as shown in the details included.

May you all enjoy a peaceful holiday, full of nature's delights! - Diane LaJeunesse, Treasurer
