-CF Michael A. Taylor recorded the first hit of the game for the Nationals, a lead-off triple in the third inning…He came around to tie the game at 1-1 on a groundout by LHP Gio Gonzalez …

-LHP Gio Gonzalez allowed one earned on three hits in 5.0 of work…He struck out a season-high eight batters and walked seven, matching a career high…This was just the ninth outing since 1913 in which a pitcher struck out at least eight batters and walked at least seven in 5.0 innings pitched…Of those games, Gonzalez was just the third to allow one run or less, joining MIN RHP Boof Bonser (4/26/07 vs. KCR) and BAL RHP Daniel Cabrera (4/12/06 vs. TBR).

-RHP Jacob Turner tossed 4.0 innings of scoreless, two-hit to earn his first win as a member of the Washington Nationals…He struck out four batter and walked none.

ARIZONA DIAMONDBACKS (17-12)

--LHP Robbie Ray struck out the first five batters he faced, falling one shy of tying LHP Randy Johnson’s franchise record of to start a game (6 on Aug. 5, 2002 at NYM and May 9, 2007 vs. PHI)….He finished the day with 10 strikeouts, it was his sixth career 10+ game and second of 2017 (also: 10 strikeouts on April 17 at LAD), all six such performances have come on the road…He was a tough-luck loser, allowing two runs on four hits over 6.0 innings pitched, but dropped to 0-3 in his three career against the Nationals.

-RF Chris Owings added his fifth home run of the season, a solo shot in the first inning to give the Diamondbacks an early 1-0 lead…The five home runs on the year are one shy of his career high for a single season (6 HR in 91 games in 2014)…He added a single in the fourth inning for his tenth multi-hit game of the season…With his 2-for-5 night he improved to a .311 (23-for-74) career average against the Nationals.

-After fanning 10 Nationals, the Diamondbacks pitching staff set a new Major League record with their ninth consecutive game with ten or more strikeouts, breaking a tie with the Milwaukee Brewers (Aug. 20-28, 2012) and Cleveland Indians (16-23, 2014).
